View Full Version : Microsoft: “We’ll support Blu-ray”
Amid rumors that Microsoft is in talks to add Blu-ray support to its Xbox 360 game console, CEO Steve Ballmer has indicated the company’s intention to support the remaining high-def format.
As reported by The Seattle Post-Intelligencer (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/354074_msftmix07.html), Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took part in an onstage conversation at the company’s Mix08 Internet conference in Las Vegas Thursday, where the topics discussed included Microsoft’s high-def plans following the discontinuation of Toshiba’s HD DVD format.
Without offering specifics, Ballmer said the company will work to support Blu-ray.
“We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like,” Ballmer stated. “I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on, and we'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense.”

This should be interesting. Will people be trading in their old ones for these new ones? Will it outsell the PS3, who already has the blu-ray with it?
Interesting in deed.

The problem with Microsoft is this: They only care about the money, go figure right? They started out in the wrong direction with their game platforms by making you pay extra to get the DVD playing capability and then they have had a lot of technical issues with their machines breaking down. They still have the financial backing to continue to stay in this area of entertainment for as long as they want I suppose, but I think their product stinks. I'm not to sure whether I think them giving their vote of support for something is the kiss of death or if its a potentially a good thing for Blue-ray. Buy A Playstation Folks! It comes the way it should... Everything's included!

Interesting.
Long story short: I wanted High def player for my new 1080p hdtv I just got. I bought a Samsung Blu ray player for about $229 open box special at Best Buy. First movie I watched was Verical Limit, it was amazing on the big screen HD TV, I was in heaven.

Next day I decided to try out 28 Days later, I was equally amazed, for the first 30 mins that is. The player froze up, many times. Took player back after getting another Blu ray disk thinking it mught be the media, same problem. Paid extra for a new player since the first was open box. Same problem. Took this back paid extra for PS3....I am in heaven again and I can watch Youtube on big screen...yay.:)
Me? I'm waiting for late this year to get the new Panasonic DMP-BD50 standalone Blu-ray Player.

I'm double-burned on the fall of HD-DVD. :furious:
First of all I bought my 360 HD add-on knowing full well that it was behind in the HD battle but I really thought it would continue longer than this and MAYBE put up a better fight.
Then I go buy the HP Pavillion HDX Dragon laptop which comes with a built-in HD-DVD player.
I just wish the PS3 had some games I wanted so I could just go get it over with but noooo...
And what about DVD sets that already started as HD-DVD? Are they now just converting the remaining seasons to Bluray or starting over with Bluray and leaving those of us who wasted money on previous HD seasons dangling?
