Man are those cool!!! I'm getting chilly... someone start the fire! Break out the rum!
Wow, I just put them up 5 minutes ago. Glad you like them. :) I figure I'll take them down shortly after Christmas...and I only put them on the mainpage...I imagine they'd be annoying on EVERY page. Heck, they'll probably get annoying anyway. :)

There's SNOW on the boards! Wow...that makes me feel all cozy and wanting to snuggle...c'mere Toose!

I had a program on my computer where snow would build up on any open window, unless it was maximized. It got annoying. Then I got a program that put Christmas Lights around the screen, that too got annoying, I just can't delete the Christmas Lights now...somehow, the uninstall is missing. Makes me very mad :furious:
Flakes are cool.
sadesdrk
12-14-01, 01:55 PM
flakes aren't cool if they are not snow flakes and they're in someone's hair. hee-hee.

Or were you referring to something else???
sadesdrk
12-14-01, 02:08 PM
well...no. That's what I was referring to, but we can adress your OTHER problem if you like...:D

I have no other problems. I'm in a very good mood today. I'll post on the Highlight thread to show you...:D...

I am starting to notice that the flakes lag my computer up.
I have danruff problems sometimes. I use industrial strength Head & Shoulders (the stuff they use on elephants), but it doesn't work. What, you thought those things were snowflakes? :)
Sir Toose
12-14-01, 03:52 PM
****TWT scratches his head over his computer like Ally Sheedy in the breakfast club and giggles as the flakes spread across the screen***
Hey T, is that a VB script or something? Would you mind sharing? I'd love to put that up on my lil site.
It's JavaScript...VBScript is IE-only. :( Yeah, send me a PM or email and I'll give you the link...it's available freely, so long as the copyright and all that remains intact.
spudracer
12-14-01, 08:12 PM
They're ok, the first time, but after that they tend to get annoying. :D
nice flakes T......on the screen that is............boooooteeeefulll.
and Spud? did your snow screen saver allow the snow to build along the "sill" of the whole computer screen?......up and up as a window would fill? wouldn't that be cool? then when you wake up the computer, a squeegee or a broom could swoop in and clear away the built up snow..........ahhhh, i guess we see enough of that with our car windshields.
spudracer
12-15-01, 01:15 AM
Wasn't a screen saver...it just snowed on my desktop until I maximized a window, which would wipe out all the snow. If a window wasn't maximized...it would build up on the top of it.
Sir Toose
12-15-01, 12:58 PM
I love the flakes. I'm just sitting here watching them. *yawn*
i keep challenging your cow, horse, or steer, or whatever it is.....horny thing.....to a staredown...he keeps losing.
maybe i'm delirious with fever......SICK and wimpering........hate being sick. :(

i was so happy when i came to the main screen!! yesh, the flakes are very cool. snowflakes, that is. well, not SNOW, as in ICE, as in, illegal goods, but, the free stuff that falls from the sky. no NOT water. not mannah, either. SNOW, for chrissake, you know what i'm talking about!!!
sigh. i'm sick, too. boyfriend did it to me, the bastard. not THAT. he spread his germs. not THOSE. FLU germs. yeah, those. i got to work from home this week, hehe. i'm still full of snot, though. ugh.

I would give a dollar a flake just to see some snow. I keep having this fantasy of being snowbound in a cabin in the woods. Hot crackling fire... a dear someone beside me... watching the snow fall.... listening to the rush of the wind... and being so ... peaceful. Have you ever noticed how the world takes on a bluish or blue/grayish tint when it snows? and how everything is insulated? and how summery colors are so much more intense? the green of the pines, the yellow of the sun... when I was a boy I used to lay in the snow in the woods and pretend I was the last person ever on the earth and I would try to listen to the sounds around me... when there is so much snow you can only hear things that are really close to you. Sometimes the wind would blow and knock snow from the trees and it would make the strangest thwumping noise. I would close my eyes for long periods and open them to the riotous blue of the sky and the greens of the pines... god how I miss being so carefree... I hope I can save myself before I forget...

I'm sorry you're sick Patti... if you hear a knock open the door, it's me with my famous chicken soup... this stuff has cured thousands. Well, I forgot you're a vegan... I'll just leave out the chicken and Sadie can bring her Tottie... with that combo we'll have you fixed up in jiffy.

We got a real good snow here last year, but that kinda thing happens rarely around here. About every other year we'll get a real good snow, the other years will get a "snow day" and that's it. Can't even make a descent Snowman out of the "snow day" snow.
when i lived in Boulder, Co, i winter camped quite a lot..........had to snow-shoe everywhere because one step without a snow show and i would sink up to my hip. my dog, jack, had to follow in my footsteps or else she couldn't get anywhere. i would stomp down an area for my tent, but still needed to wear the snow shoes for every step. i almost had to have a fire just to stay warm and keep the experience pleasant......so in my walkabout for dry twigs i would snowshoe off amongst the aspen. it's amazing up there...big thick blanket of white......glittery and glistening.......and so quiet.........and the beautiful black and white of the aspen bark with all those eyes staring back at you. (the wood knots/places where branches sprouted and fell off are just like eyes....if you haven't looked at one, you should)....people always ask me "why do you winter camp?" ...........that's why........the extreme quiet, softness and peace.

I live right by a highway. It's not the busiest highway, but around 6am, when everybody is off to work, it sounds like a frickin' zoo. However, I love when it snows quietly and secretly, during the night; because when I wake up, and don't hear a damn thing...I know it had snowed and the snow plow hasn't gotten to our road yet. It's blissfully silent.:)
awhhhh thmilin...you sick too? are you feeling like you're gonna cough up a lung too? gross yes...but the illness goin' around here is a headache, and lung/chest thing with an incessant cough.....my head probably aches from all the coughing....and the lack of good sleep. i've still managed my outdoor runs; .....the cold damp air cleared up the coughing at least until i stopped.....but today......i just don't have it in me......i just got back from an attempted run........ABORT MISSION, ABORT MISSION.....HEAD BACK TO HOT TUB AND WARM TEA.
hope you feel better soon thmilin.:)

thanks patti, yeah, me sick, too. not fun. i steamed the crap outta myself in the shower this mornin just so i could loossen up the ooze and have used up 1.75 large boxes of kleenex already. finished all my chrysanthemum tea (my favorite! no more of it ... :( ) and have been having coughing fits and a world of trouble trying to sleep, too. doesn't help when you need the sleep to recouperate.
i finally know what they mean by "I awoke. My mouth was so dry it felt like sandpaper." it' snot just a cheesy line, dude, my mouth was so dry I could feel every single tastebud, dried out! eek. just awful.
but anyway. i'm sure no one's having fun reading how awful we feel. :) just be glad you're not suffering this way, you healthy people!!!

toosey, you enjoyed trying to experience what the sick people experience? how benevolent of you! i kid, i kid.
you're calling me "thmi" too, oh no! sades, it's spreading, oh stop the madness, please ... :D
yeah, it's freaky ... cuz i can't breathe through my nose at night, i am forced to breathe through the mouth. air up in northern cali is very dry and cold in winter/spring so, the air being as dry as it is even with the heater on my tongue basically dries right up and each tastebud sort of separates from the rest. scraping with my teeth hurts like hell. madness. so you dry you can't even swallow, you have to drink water to lubricate first. the buds soak up the liquid after a few gulps and after an hour or more i can finally touch them (with teeth) without them hurting.
two years, eh? must be the mule pheromones. ;)
PS - isn't "tastebuds" just a wonderful word? think about it. little buds. little wee mounds. itty bitty bumps. buds makes me think of something about to burst, which it is, like flower buds. they burst with flavor and scientific little chemicals that let them taste ... "bud" alone is a nice, round, short, fat little word. tastebuds in plural is just ... goofily sweet and fun.
anyway, sorry, my Comtrex and echinahackaka tea must be getting to me. ;)

I spy with my little eye and I see the most astounding things... gather close around the campfire and I will tell you of things magical...
spud, i moved to Boulder in 1989 and lived there till late 1996. i worked at a vegetarian café/bakery called the Brillig Works. it was originally a beatnik hangout bookshop/coffeehouse frequented by Jack Kerouac and Ginsberg. pretty cool, eh?
i baked for six years.....giant healthy muffins.....nothing like em' here. it was the perfect job with the perfect cool boss...i could bake early morning or late night and hike all day. loved it there, despite the wealthy, homogenous whitebread population- it was still very beautiful and cool and arty. besides, i spent most of my time in the foothills and high on the Divide away from all the money and people.
Toose, you posted a second after me....

you're a funny guy, Toose. but i am the same way with the stream of consciousness style.....it is why i use and abuse the "dot dot dot's". i love em'! they allow the perfect pause length for how i am saying what i type.

C'mon, Spud, you know what you have to say...it's straight out of the Glossary (http://www.movieforums.net/glossary.php): "TWT isn't gonna like that." :) Double posts aren't too bad...especially if they come in the Intermission Forum, in which case they don't even effect the count. I would definitely encourage you all to just edit the post, though...otherwise your avatar, information, and all those buttons need to be generated again...sort of needless. the beating of the dots - my that was funny. in fact, in its entirety that was quite a squittling genius of intelligent on-topic posting.
as for double posting ... yes, it fills the board up, basically, and you know, if the additional post comes right after one you just made or is an additional thought to one you already posted, might as well just edit. but if your post is a new answer to someone else's response, it's legit. capisce?
ooh, you dotdotdotters! i use it occasionally but i know some folks who go nutty with peanutty dotdotdotting. just don't dotdotdot all over mimimi. ahem. me.

and i know the "dot dot dot's" can get out of hand....i actually delete one or two individual dots each time i do the "dotdot dance" ....sometimes i just need four, or five, or six!! and i am VERY PICKY about my grammar and spelling - but when it comes to punctuation and capitalization i make my own rules! and i love lowercase i's - they are just so cute.
thmilin, i was gonna spare you in the jello ring too, out of pure admiration for your wit and panache, but now, after i saw sparks flying off your words to Sir Toose in the above posts, i can see you are tough as well as boooooteeefull. so yeah, i'll agree to give you a strawberry gelatin facial if you insist.
and in answer to your Q "who dances alone?" - i studied french for more than ten years so it's just a part of my brain....sometimes my thoughts and/or dreams come out in french ....and i woke up from a dream one morning singing - "dans ce monde de la purité, on dance seul, on dance seul". i feel that way, but i don't want to claim "purity" (the way most people might hear it). i have been such a "solo" person my whole life.....i think it says it well.....in this world (of purity) i dance alone.
and Toose i want to quote you again....m u s t - f i g h t - t h e- u r g e - t o - q u o t e - t o o s e! - m u s t - f i g h t - i t !
instead collect your kudos and virtual pat from the above paragraph.

Is this a snowflake discussion? Squittle repellant indeed! :D
Yeah, this place has been completely infected over the last 48 hours or so. It's a combination of snowflakes, jello, and the Zodiac. It's taking all the willpower I have not to freak out. :D

The Zodiac thread is not infectious...you can stay away from it if you want...you're a pooh-head anyhoo, I wouldn't be able to give an accurate analysis of YOUR kind anyways...POOH-HEAD!:p
And you can be so gullbile. :) This is hardly cause for concern for me (was just playing around)...I'm much more concerned with the code crap I've got going on, which, BTW, has me furious. :furious: There's no denying that the squittle disease has bitten many MoFos as of late, though, for reasons as of yet unexplained.

Your squittling was less concentrated, but far more plentiful, evidence by the fact that your former post count of something like 1,200+, is now under 500, what with Intermission posts no longer counting.

Hey, stop that. I was just starting to like this place again. (Cool graphics and such)
Besides, your post count data is in our favor. You contended that we squittled in movie related forums. Your data shows that almost 70% of PL's squittle was in Intermission where it belonged. Ha! His other 500 post were probably movie related. And I might also add, that we had good clean squittle, which is in keeping with the FAMILY orientation of this site, (ahem), as opposed to today's squittle which is not even close to being legal.
Any further attempts to disparage my client shall be handled by a gang of ruthless attorneys. ;D
Thank you.
Actually I contended many things...only one of which being that he squittled outside of Intermission (which he did)...but that's really pointless to argue about this much later on. Oh, and I'm not nuts about the squittling here either, BTW. I hint at it now and then...but in the end, it's the decision of the posters, barring extreme circumstances...same as it was with PLite. Flirting is excessive...but just be glad we have the PMs...it could probably be a lot worse.

Hey! That reminds me. I heard a rumor that you could read the PM's Tw.
Yes, technically, I can access any data stored in the database...I'd have to retrieve it manually, though. Wouldn't just be point-and-click for me. Don't worry Sun, I'm not going to read any of your PMs. :) But, I understand that even the potential will bother some people...so, if you have something you want 100% safe and private, without even any possibility of anyone else seeing it, use private email. The PMs aren't meant for legal papers, marriage proposals or business transactions anyway.

Bring it on Baby.......i'll run with cleats on if i have to........so sorry Toose, that you have to miss out. i'll make a snow angel in your honor. k? ;)
and i keep seeing Bald Eagles flying right by my sliding glass door.......i live on a lake......up high.....and the eagles always fly along the shore just as the lake is preparing to freeze as well as when it first thaws....must be a dead fish search........it's amazing to see them.....they fly by at eye level.......and i can see each little feather on their white heads.......so beautiful.

If the girl is what I'm after, I would run like the wind to catch up with her, even if I had cramps in my legs for weeks.
What say we move this thread to the Intermission area. Staying on topic in this thread was dead long long ago.
Toose, everything is probably just as i want it.......aside from the romantic void and occasional NEED for contact other than eye contact- i probably keep it just the way it is (unconsciously). i value my alone time so much, that if i were faced with sharing it- it would take one heckuva man to displace my priorities. i'm thinking Maji warrior-(i'll say Oded Ferer for Spud's sake).......and obviously it's nice and safe and fun to focus on such an unreachable fantasy male...... hey i had an eight year live-in relationship that was really great. it's been six years since that ended but it's not often you meet a soulmate......that might have been it for this lifetime. Not that dating has to be under the "perfect match" microscope........dating a nice guy would be nice.....i'll just be happy with my life and see if a bonus comes along...heh heh
people make the big mistake of thinking 1)money, 2) a relationship, or 3)being skinny or more attractive will "fix" their lives......and by focusing on what they think they need, they don't have to look at the underlying problems. i try very hard to not let that happen and to realize how lucky and happy i am with the way things are.
p.s. i still wouldn't mind a few bills to toss around, a little romance, or a scale that reads the same number no matter how many poptarts i shove in my face.

I was only referring to your scale staying at the same place no matter how much food you eat. We all want that, well at least some of us do. :D
oh man spud, is that all? i thought you were referring to much grander ideals.......oh yeah, i was just laughingly wishing out loud for millions of people on that subject! i was expecting to come back to defend my outlook on life! phew! :p
but you look like one of those guys who doesn't have to watch his weight......ofcourse i've only seen you in your grass skirt.:D
spudracer
12-29-01, 11:55 PM
I usually put on some weight, then I skip some meals(don't feel like eating) and lose the weight. Usually happens, nothing I plan. Of course, I don't want to go on Springer or Povich as a 1000 pound man that can't leave his bed. :D
amazing isn't it? but anyone who weighs 500 or 800 or 1000 pounds - yeegads- will lose like 20 pounds from one day of abstaining! they can literally live off their body fat like a bear as long as they have water.........

Steve, this thread was never really on subject anyways.
Windows XP is a cross between Windows 2000, and Windows NT. Very nice from what I've heard. :D
Become computer literate, Steve-o: a blind man could tell you that you're going to HAVE to be in a very short while. :) Your dad is correct: XP is a cause for celebration. I'm amazed at the stability it provides. I'm sure all you Linuxheads will preach to me about how such a stable OS has existed for quite a long time...but it is very refreshing to see Windows, a very user-friendly OS, and one that comes bundled with most ocmputers, finally get it TRULY right (previous versions of Windows only hinted at greatness, IMO...they were still worth owning, however).
I run XP on my main computer, and couldn't love it much more.
Sir Toose
12-31-01, 09:10 AM
I'm buying XP this week. It is a leap of faith and I'm trusting my fellow geek TWT (whose opinion is gold IMHO) to steer me right as his is the only opinion I've heard on the subject. I can't really go wrong anyways though bc every other microsoft operating system I've ever used sucked but was increasingly better than the previous. Worst case scenario is that XP will suck less than ME.
thmilin
12-31-01, 03:36 PM
yeah XP is the end of it all, right? then server admin and endusers will use the same OS, and we can all stop tripping over version compatibility and innocent customers trying to use something they can't understand!! or if it' s not XP it's the one that comes after, OSes united.
Toose, I'm a cut-up, what else did you expect me to do to you?
yeah i hate using other peep's computers. i'm on my own now, thank god.

I still miss the flakes. It's actually warm here today. What kind of winter has no snow? I'm so jealous of all you snowbabies. I'm wearing short sleeves for gods sake!
We've got lots of snow here. My back hurts from shoveling the sidewalk. My brother and the little kids are building snow-walls...preparing for a giant snowball battle. You're NEVER too old for that kind of stuff. I'm gonna call Adam or something and see if I can get him to come over and play, too. We had a snowball fight with our own snow-walls years ago...crap, that was fun. I remember hurling one up in the air...it was a huge lob...and it went JUST past his wall and hit him in the face virtually the same second he came out to throw. It was hilarious...but it was a little icey, too. He was okay...so it was still kinda cool.

We had a good 2-3 inches of snow (the most I've seen in this country since I moved here 10 years ago) last Thursday night/friday morning, so I had a day off on Friday. Then everything calmed down over the weekend, but on Monday the roads were covered in black ice (apparently the freshly spreayed grit had been washed away by rain  ), and on the road that most of my schools teachers use to get to school there were 16 crashes. One idiot went round a corner too fast and skidded, before flipping over, followed by 15 other idiots who all ploughed into the first car. No one was seriously hurt, but why were they driving so flipping fast
None of the teachers were hurt, though.
