View Full Version : Don't you think OJ should pay his taxes?

Dear Orenthal Simpson, aside from being mildly entertaining on the gridiron lo these many years ago, does your life have a point (other than acting as guardian to two children whose mother you killed)? (http://www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/txdlnqnt.html)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for open discourse, but isn't anyone else just plain tired of hearing about anything and everything that has to do with OJ?

That was kind of my point I guess. You'd think someone so much in the public eye would take a little care in tying up loose ends.

You know, on second thought, I think OJ should be followed around and reported on regularly. It's a good way to keep an eye on him and frankly I don't like the idea of him being off the proverbial radar. Any other hollywood type though, Lindsay, Britney, et al and I'm with you. I think this particular guy is a dirtbag and shouldn't be conveniently forgotten. I hope it makes him mad that people report on him.

I'm probably going to get pounded for this, but...

No matter how anyone personally feels about the man, he was NOT convicted of murder, they were not able to prove to the jury that he did it. Whether its because of incompetence or whatever doesn't really matter.
Yet his life was then ruined by what I considered then, and still do, to be a very nasty legal loophole. To me, the whole basis of double jeopardy in our legal system goes out the window with that second case. Yes, I know one trial was criminal and one was civil, but they were really for the same crime.
I honestly think that most of what has happened (dumb things he has done included) since, is a result of that second decision. There is also the probability that the guy is just messed up, maybe one too many concussions while playing football...

One other bit about this that bugs me... is he really the legal guardians of the kids? If he still is, I can't imagine him being anything other than perfect with them.
You really think that any state child welfare agency would let the kids remain with him if he was anything other than that?

As a side note... do I think he did it? ...probably... but once he was found not guilty, I considered him that, instead of the clamor that has gone on for over a decade of people around the country wanting to do anything and everything to him to "make him pay" anyway...

No pounding.

I think OJ's ability to pay for a stellar legal team was the reason he was able to walk free on this. The evidence is overwhelming on the case inclusive of blood, dna, circumstantial and eyewitness accounts. In my mind, there is no question that had this been anyone of less means (in a non politically charged climate, remember the riots?) they would not have walked.

Yes, this case bugs me though this is the first post I've ever made about OJ and his case in any forum. I'm not second guessing the jury on why they did what they did but it was certainly not for lack of evidence against Simpson.

All that aside, Simpson should pay his damn taxes like the rest of us. Maybe he could offset the taxpayer dollars spent to try him by doing so.

Also, I don't have the faith that you seem to have in the system. Guys like Kerry Max Cook and Clarence Lee Brandley (two I've researched) were on death row for years with far less evidence against them than OJ and were eventually exonerated (while losing years of their lives in the process). How many more of these guys are there? The common thread here is that none of the above had the cash to buy themselves out of trouble and then had the nerve to not pay their taxes on top of that.

Oj is entertaining to me. He really is. He's like a giant trainwreck. I just can't look away. And unlike the Britney Spears' or Lindsay Lohan's of the world, i don't have to feel guilty about enjoying his misery. OJ is a dirtbag. With him, it's not sad, it's hilarious.

I say bring on more OJ.

I've heard some people say that the way some jurors answered questions about DNA after the trial indicated that they didn't really understand what it was. At least one commentator suggested that if the trial were held today, in a world where CSI is one of the top shows on television and everyone knows what DNA is, he'd have been convicted on the same evidence.

Dunno if it's true, but I thought that was an interesting perspective.

I'm surprised Django's name is not on that list….

Anyway… yes, OJ should have to pay his taxes… but of course, I also think he should fry…
