This (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=1157626) is the moost saddest thing I have ever heard. :bawling:

I've heard the song before very touching... hard to take lightly...

I think this is a sad song in the same way that unbearably maudlin "Christmas Shoes" is sad.
But, to each their own!

The fact that children are abused everyday all over the world is very heartbreaking… and I've lost count of the cases I've worked that involved an abused child... but, I'm sorry, that song is annoying to me.

I knew there had to be someone with real feelings.

You're one hell of a dull minded person.

Well, it was good for a laugh, jrs, and I forwarded it to a couple friends and they laughed as well.
So thanks!

I feel sick about this, and yes it is annoying, very annoying, because it pretends to know the thought process or feelings of a child. No matter what your religion or lack thereof is; a child does not know, religiously or otherwise, anything more than what hey are taught, shown, witnesses of, or anything else. A beaten child is not a funny thing, no matter what the stage. An effort, albeit uneducated or whatever (nothing personal) is better than most efforts out there, so for that alone I commend the enlightenment, on the other hand........................grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........
This is like a pet peeve for me so it is hard to be unbiased. If I ever see a person abusing or hurting their children (and I do not mean spanking or even harsh punishment, I mean "abusing" their child (and please most of us know what unwarranted abuse or neglect is) then I would step in and say my two cents and report them. Anyway, be it because of ignorance or anything else, there is no "laughable" thing about this thread, so yeah whatever.

It was OK until the odd sounding man started singing near the end of the song. Was that supposed to be Jesus joining in?

There is NOTHING laughable about this thread is right....Holden And comparing it to The Simpsons?????? You are a complete f***ing *******.
It is supposed to be sung through the hearts of all the abused children out there. If noone has gotten that yet, well, you all have something to really think about.

Oh, I get it. I can have nothing but sympathy and concern for the issue and still think this song and video are loads of crappy-crap-crap. Mr. Jesus himself would certainly tolerate such an attitude, even if you don't.
This isn't a thread about child abuse. It's a thread about a song and video about child abuse: big difference there, Sport. I think they are tacky and laughable, though child abuse isn't. Obviously. But that goes without saying (I'd have thunk). If somebody does have something to say about it, I would hope it'd be deeper and more insightful than writing a letter to Mr. Jesus (what kind of postage does that require, anyway?) in an awful, awful song and cheaply manipulative video.
But, diff'rent strokes! :yup:

"My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I joined you in two-part harmony. Once I even played soprano sax."

I don't think I would word my response quite as harshly as Holden, but I find the song incredibly maudlin and annoying. Also, I think "Mr. Jesus" is the wrong guy to go to for help. Is He helping all the children who are, and have ever been, victims of state sponsored child abuse? The kids who work in Kathy Lee Gifford's sweat shops? The child labor camps in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh? And if I'm not mistaken, Mr. Jesus was probably around in the 1800s when child labor was all too common in "civilized" countries. Read some Dickens if you think it's not true.
Child abuse is a horrible, horrible crime and, yes, a sin. But it doesn't just take place in the home, and to address it with such a childish (not "child-like", but "childish"), saccharine-sweet, nauseating bit of fluff is not, I think, the best way to go. I wonder if the people who wrote and produced this song and video go to their Congressmen and Senators and demand stronger measures against child abusers both in the home, and in the workplace here and around the world. I sure hope so.

NOW we're talking like Jesus! That's the two-fisted drunken Jesus of the lost Book of Gus, I believe. Just set that to sh!tty music and put photos of aborted fetuses under it and you've got yourself a surefire smash!
I think I "get" everyone's point here, and I see that we all agree that child abuse is wrong, what I find sad about it, is that humor plays a part, if you disagree with it(the video) then disgust would be a better response, which is mine, humor tends to distance oneself from it which is a bit callous, but hey, just MO.
I wish there was a Mr Jesus :yup: to help these children :yup:
Maybe it depends on the mood you're in when you watch it. I am stressed out and exhausted right now and today I was actually talking with a friend who was having trouble reporting a woman to Children's Aid herself...this was one of the issues making me stressed out. So watching this at this moment really pissed me off and I couldn't watch anymore than the first few seconds (the amount of time it took me to see what the video was about). On any other day I would likely find it sad. But now - it makes me want to break my computer.

What bothers me, is that you post this video, and of course opinions will follow. Xui Wan likes it, Holden says that it is unbearably maudlin, but to each their own, and Caity says that it is annoying. You thank Xui Wan, insult Holden, and don't say anything to Caity. When you call someone dull-minded, more than likely, they will reply. Then comes . . .
I think Mofo is full of idiots????
Since this is a touchy subject matter, maybe you could get over Holden not liking the song, as easily as you got over others not liking it, and let the rest of us listen to it, and form our own opinions, without being so nasty????
I have come upon a thread with a sad feeling of child abuse. A thread with a song that strongly breaks my heart. Wanting others to feel the same was what I thought those would feel yet like Holden said 'to each his own'.
As I come to look at the negative side of this, I must say that what I said earlier has been too outlandish. Plus, I have gotten over Holden and his inappropriate antics.

Thats nice that it touched you :yup:
Wanting others to feel the same
I think everyone is against Child abuse but hated the song :yup: the idea of children singing to Mr Jesus turned me right off :indifferent: it is hard to believe in god or Jesus with all the terrible things happening in the world :yup:

Whatever the strengths or weaknesses of the song and video, this thread has got me thinking. One of the things I've been thinking about is a story I heard years ago that sends a message that, to me, is much more effective than "Dear Mr. Jesus." Please forgive if y'all have heard this before.
Once upon a time there was a wealthy man who lived in a big house with a beautiful wife and two healthy children. They were good, churchgoing people, and had a happy life together. One cold winters night as the family sat at the table for their evening meal, a small child's face appeared at the window. Wan, with sunken eyes, the child gazed longingly in at the cozy scene and the resplendent table. The man and his family felt deep discomfort, but did nothing. Eventually the hungry child went away, much to their relief.
But the thought of the small child's face at the window stayed with the rich man, and that night as he said his prayers, asking for God's blessing on his family, he also said "God, how can You allow such hunger and poverty to exist in the world? God, why don't You do something about that?"
And God spoke to the man and said "But my son, I have done something. I put you here."
