The days of total, hard drive eraser, malware programs are all but gone, but there always seems to be a loophole. The reason most "virus writers" do not try to crash or damage your computer is that if your computer is not on the net, they or whomever petitioned them do not make money. It has become more of a bait and switch or scam if you will. There is not much money in "crashing" your computer. It seems as if the old schoolers are out again though, so yes: thank you for warning, it seems to be legit from what I have seen at work.
