Right, so this past Monday, I read this (http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007708060310) in the newspaper, focusing primarily on this section:

As part of the festival, there will be a short horror film contest. To participate, visit the festival Web site (see address below) for entry forms and details. Clues and required subject matter will be announced on the Web site at noon Thursday.

The horror film submissions may be serious, comic, animated or in a documentary style. Entries must be at least six minutes and no longer than 10. Teams are limited to five people. The entry fee is $25. Forms and fees may be e-mailed, sent or dropped off at 4621 Outer Loop, No. 310, Louisville, KY 40219. All films must be completed by 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16.

My first thought was, "hey, that would be pretty cool to do." I didn't think that by the end of this week, I will actually have made a film. But alas, my friends and I have been slaving since last Monday over scouting/securing a location, rounding up costumes and equipment, planning shoot times, and commissioning extras... not to mention pushing through a rigorous three-day shoot this past weekend (each shoot lasting till the wee hours of the morning). Now we're in the process of scoring and fine editing, with final shot/sound editing to come hopefully before the Thursday deadline.

In just under seven minutes, the film follows a lowly janitor's late shift at a local community daycare center. This janitor (me!) is used to hearing strange noises echo down the halls of the creepy 60-year old building, but on this night he will have to muster the courage to face malevolent forces hellbent on driving him mad.

Suffice it to say, this film will not be award-worthy, and has definitely been a learning experience in the way of piecing together a film and coordinating on all aspects of its construction. But no matter how much it sucks in the end, I'm rather proud that we've done it, and I can't imagine this will be the last film my friends and I ever shoot.

Just thought I'd share. :)

Oh, and here's a mock movie poster I threw together, just for fun:

Cool man. I can't speak for everyone, but if you were to post it on YouTube, I would contribute a couple hits. :)

Very cool... I'd definitely give it a few hits on You Tube too.... :)

Thanks guys. :) I'm going to try to get it on YouTube as soon as I have it.

Yeah, I'm looking at the poster right now, and I think I should mention that this film will not be "the scariest movie you have ever seen" (although, I yoinked that quote off the Blair Witch Project box art, and even that flick isn't the scariest I've seen).

Also, there were some elements the contest managers required of ALL entries, which were not even posted until a week before the deadline. Some of these should look familiar:

1. Use the name Haddonfield.
2. Use the name Crystal Lake
3. Use Romero as a company name.
4. There must be a blond woman in your movie. She has to have a line. No non speaking parts.
5. Use a chainsaw.

So if/when you get a chance to watch the flick, at least you'll be able to play a little "I-Spy." :yup:

Well, I have gotten my hands on many films in the past (including this years After Dark Film Fest) and all are quite remarkable may I say. With this years Fright Fest, and I'm sure as of those of the past, will be praised many horror masters around here and aboard.

Well, the films showing at Fright Night Film Fest will likely be leagues better than ours, and longer too. In fact, the low-budget zombie flick Dead Moon Rising (http://www.anubisdigital.com/Movies-Synopsis.htm) will be screened there, notable for the fact that I was a zombie extra (though I do not appear in the photograph below).

NICE!! You actually create your own movies.
The closest I can get to creating one is through my camera phone and its minute long videos. U_U

Okay, so I've got the film ripped from DVD and converted to .avi, but the file is too large for YouTube's standards. Anyone know a good and free compression program I can use?

I used AutoGK to convert to .avi. I think I'm going to try using DivX, probably tomorrow or this weekend.

I've got a copy of Dead Moon Rising. If you'd like your own, let me know by sending me a PM.

Alright, here it is.

Now, I should like to say that before you view this film, please keep in mind the following: (a) we didn't take ourselves too seriously making the thing; (b) there are quite a few production, cinematography, and editing changes I would have made had I been in charge (rather than relegated to the role of "actor"); and (c) I blame any and all shortcomings related to my performance solely on insufficient direction. :p

That said, enjoy. :D

(NOTE: You have to wait through about 20 seconds of black screen before the film starts, for no other reason than our senior editor is a moron.)
