View Full Version : Stuff Missing?
Today I've had two weird occurances.
First, around Noon, all of the shouts from 10 last night until noon were gone. I had seen them earlier and they were gone afterwards. I shouted about it and when I came back later, everything was back and my shout was gone.
Then, I posted in the Cripsin Glover thread. When I came back this afternoon, my post had disappeared.
Any thoughts on this, Chris?
I haven't noticed this, but Rob, our server admin, is currently trying to move the site to a new server to get rid of some of the problems we've been having. A switch was planned for last night, but had to be aborted. My guess is that you experienced a slight rollback as a result. Sorry about that.
Rob's going to give it another try on Friday, I believe. Hopefully it will go smoothly.

That would explain me coming in once yesterday, and seeing one new post, and then coming in again later, and it saying that there had been a few new posts that morning.
I did a top 3 performance early this morning, and now all I see is the one that Holden made on the 15th.
I'm just glad to know. I thought I was finally really losing my mind. ;)
I need to know if those posts that I made this early morning are gone for good? They were the top 3 performances, the video clips, and the movie stills, which bill replied to.

Yes, unfortunately I believe those posts are gone, if you posted them between midnight and 2 AM, which is when the switch took place. Sorry about that; I wish there was something I could do beyond the general cautions and warnings when it's set to take place.
Yep, that sucks. I figured as long as I could get in, I was good to go/he hadn't started yet.
Yes, I received a few emails, when i clicked on them, like a puff of smoke, gone http://bestsmileys.com/silly/13.gif
I thought I was going mad. I guess not. Thanks for the update, Chris.
Well, this seems like the perfect thread for my question. You know when someone joins, asks, "What movie is . . . ?" and then you move it to the movie questions spot? Where is that, exactly, because it seems to always hide from me. heheh

The Movie Questions forum shows up in searches and post listings and all that, but isn't displayed on the mainpage. This is because I've yet to come up with an elegant way for displaying questions. I don't want to display it just like another forum, for a few different reasons, but I don't want a half-way measure up, either. So I'm a bit stuck.

Better you stuck, than me crazy, because that's what I was starting to believe. heheh I looked everywhere for that damn thing. :D I was like, "I know it exist! I've been there!"

Me! I'm missing. It won't let me sign in. Check my video clip thread. Sorry! In a rush.

hehe Thank you, Nebbit! :)
I figured it out, and what a butt-munch I am. OK, last night I was loading some java on my computer. It didn't load right, had an error . . . so I simply moved on. I forgot about this, as the night went on. It just hit me, so I checked my add/remove programs, and there it was. I have deleted the java, the obviously defected java, and poof, here I am. The odd thing is, it didn't stop me from doing anything else on-line. My page closed a few times, here and there, but I could still sign in anywhere on-line.
Oh, you can delete my new, pointless account, if you like.
Yeah, and how is this for timing. I am at my friend's house, I try to sign in, and when I hit enter, it goes to page not found. Is that bad timing for an internet glitch, or what?!? I bet if I had hit refresh, it would have signed me in. I just assumed it wasn't working at her house either, because every time I signed in last night, I got a page not found, then when I hit refresh, I still wasn't signed in.
OK, set 2 coming up . . .
Well it's good that you settled everything! Welcome back!
Yoda, do you know why on my computer, the forum front page is missing some things like that log in/out box over to the right? Looks wierd to me.

Yeah, that's the new navigation scheme. :) I decided to ditch the big clunky box on the top of the pages, move the navigation links just under the buttons, and put the breadcrumb in a small black line instead. It's a much better use of space and actually saves a couple inches of scrolling, too.
You'll still get a box to login with when you're logged out, and the "Log Out" button is still available there with the other links. Hope ya'll dig it.
I didn't get the notification on a new comment. Also, it said I had 3 PMs, but now that I have opened them, I can't find my way back to the PM box. What am I overlooking?
I'm still trying to find the best solution here, so there might be a few user-unfriendly bits for awhile.
That said, there are two other ways to get to your messages: by clicking on "My Profile" or through the Forum Jump menu on the bottom of most pages.
But, both of these are inconvenient, so I'm trying to find a better solution for the various notifications.

OK, I had hit the "My Profile" button, and that is when I noticed the new comment. I forgot about the tabs off to the side, for PMs. That'll work.

OK, the PM link is there. Thanks!
Yes, I dig it! I do like this look better. If memory serves, the ad box was bulky, and white. With me, the more black, the better. It's a morbid thing.
Also, sometimes it logs me out automatically, other times I can't log out.
If it logs you out automatically, check the URL and see if the "www." is missing before "movieforums.com." That's a pretty common problem.
As for logging out; I've had some scattered issues, but when it gives out such an error, the forum also provides a link to clear the cookies out, which always works for me. Do you click on that link, as well?

Ahh Yoda, what've you done? Things are missing lol. Just as an opinion, you could make some things a bit more prominent, oh and is the 'new reputation/comment' pop up bit there still here? And on the subject, why does the 'forum jump' have links to 'site areas'?

Yeah, I try logging out the way I always have done it. 3 steps and I'm still logged in at the end of it. This site "OWNS" me right now and I don't like it yoda. Make it stop. :bawling:
A bit later I'm going to move all these posts out of here into a new thread. We've all gotten into a bad habit of just reviving old threads whenever there's a question/problem. New ones work a lot better, I think.

Could you be a bit more specific? What's missing, and what should be more prominent?
oh and is the 'new reputation/comment' pop up bit there still here?
Yes, as of last night they should show up where the new PMs link is listed. If there's more than one such notification, it should display a dropdown menu.

Not sure what you're referring to; I don't see anything like that in the Forum Jump menu.

At this point it's probably just a corrupted cookie; if it were anything else, it'd probably effect all of us. I've had the same problem, but had it fixed by deleting it from my computer manually, and then simply logging in again.

In the bottom right hand corner, the drop down menu to jump forums has options to jump to site areas like UCP and PMs, i for one, never use these since the top of the page has links, and if the system is being revamped or whatnot, thought maybe they could go so no longer need to scroll through the drop down menu to the actual forums.
As for the more prominent bits, it was like the location text (Movie Forums>Movie Forums Site Stuff>Stuff Missing?) gets lost by the bigger adverts, and i barely noticed it. A lot is the placing of the adverts really

And of course, it's your site so do whatever, just my personal aesthetic choices since i'm fussy like that lol.

Weird. Seems to be ok now but thanks for the tip.

Oh, I see. Yeah, that's not a bad idea. It wouldn't surprise me if some other users felt the same way.
Does anyone else here use those options? Would anyone miss them if I took them out?

Not sure what to do about that exactly; I'm pretty married to the new breadcrumb, if only because it integrates so much nicer with the color scheme, and takes up less space. I guess the ads looked off on their own a bit more because there was a big gray box just above them, and now there's something only a bit darker. I would imagine that's why, because the ads themselves haven't moved or been changed; I've just changed what sat above them.

Think i'm warming to it now
Yoda, I've tried on a few computers now and your 'Games and Tabs' link on the front page keeps coming up:
Not Found
The requested URL /community/games-and-tabs.html was not found on this server
Says this on the dreaded white page that follows after clicking on it.
That was my mistake; I overwrote part of the .htaccess file that controls those things. Should be fixed tonight.
