View Full Version : How Often are You Taking Advantage of the Pm's

I was just curious about one of this site's newest feature, the Private Message system. I for one, am getting a huge kick out of it...but I was just curious how others are enjoying it as well...

I voted for the first option. It's quite useful...though I become dangerously curious about others when I see them sending messages via "Who's Online?" that I know are not sent to me. :D I feel so left out. Anyway, it's a great feature...I dig it. Be careful not to hit your limit, though. I think it only lets you hold something like 200 messagers, unless you're an All-Powerful Admin. :)

i think it's a very cool addition, daahhling.:D

I use it to talk to Sades and Commish every so often (and I should've used it more a few times since I was sending Commish emails at the wrong email address a few times).

LOL...I use it to pester TWT on things that aren't working right. :D He will agree with that one with no hesitation. I know what Sadie uses it for, but I won't say anything as my lips are sealed. ;D

My option wasn't on there, so I just went with the first one.

Spud- you're a brat for saying that...;D I'm not tellin' YOU anything anymore.:)

OG-what was the choice you wanted?

Patti- keep em coming...

Ryan- where's MY messages lately?

I'm using the PMs a lot to submit Quizzes to Commish, which I'm finding a pretty fun activity. I just zapped him yet another one, on quotes from Best Picture Oscar winners. Hopefully it'll be up soon.

My question is this: how often are you taking advantage of the quizzes?

sadesdrk

I take almost all the quizzes, unless it's about something I know nothing or hardly nothing, about.

I don't know exactly what optioned fits me, probably something like "I use them, and I think their pretty cool". I don't use them more than I post, and so far have only really sent them to something like 4 people, one more so than any others. They are pretty neato though.

Sades: check the box on the right for each message you want to delete, then go to the bottom of the page and click on the "Delete" button, which is on the right-hand side of the bar, I believe. I might up the limit if a lot of people have trouble with it, though. Not gonna p*ss you all off just to save some server space...especially if It probably won't hurt much at all. We shall see.

Holden: you can check how many times a quiz has been taken by looking at the category page it's in. Any quiz that has been taken at least once will show up on the category page for it's category...along with the average score, and number of times taken.

I wish I could do the quizzes, but it says im not logged in, and everytime I try to login it brings me to the board, and it still says I'm not logged in. :furious:

I ran out of things to say, I guess. I don't want to be boring. Since I haven't talked to Stephanie since she became a nookie girl for the rasslin' show, I haven't had as many good stories to tell. :)

So what else is new? Just happening with wrestling fans instead of...well...us. :D Anyway, I get a couple PMs every day...Sades and Spud inform me of bugs, mostly, Spud sends me some messages about content and such now and then, Ryan and I talk about miscellanous stuff mostly, and Holden sends me PMs containing his quizzes...almost always followed by 2 or 3 more containing corrections. :)

sadesdrk

okay...here's my question, is there any way to empty out my folders? It says I have 117 in my folders. I've read them all, so can I get rid of them? Why is the folder saving them after I've deleted them?

Yoda
11-26-01, 12:55 PM
I think you'll want to go empy your Sent Items folder, and go the Message Tracking folder...select those and hit the "End Tracking" button. For some reason, the stupid counter, I think, counts both items received and items sent as messages  Maybe I'll go into the code and change that, if it's really starting to bug you guys.

sadesdrk
11-26-01, 01:02 PM
Well, you can work on that ifin' ya wanna. It's not really bugging me, but it would be nice to not have so many in my folders...you can't even read them again can you?

Yoda
11-26-01, 01:14 PM
What, Sent Items? Yeah, you can read stuff over again that you've sent to others, assuming you don't delete it, and you have the "Save Copy in Sent Items" box checked when you send it.

sadesdrk
11-26-01, 01:16 PM
Hmmmm, there's really no need to read them again. I've got some of them commited to memory.;D

Personally, I like the way the PMs are set up right now and don't find the system at all cumbersome.

Deleteing messages is simple and takes very little time. BTW, you can also delete a message when you're finished reading it. There's a box at the very top of the page, left-hand side.

I like the sent messages folder and don't want it to go away. I don't really care if they are counted in the message total or not, but I like the feature.

And yes, Sades, of course you can re-read the messages you sent. You can also edit and re-send from that folder or forward to another user entirely.

The third folder, which I don't think many people are aware of but is a nice feature, is the Message Tracking folder. Those do NOT count toward your total, but are easy to erase if you'd like. The tracking folder is good for those times you wonder, 'Gee, did so-and-so get that PM I sent him two days ago?' You can answer that yourself in the Tracking folder and it'll tell you if the recipient read your message (and even the date and time they first peeked at it).

Also, if you think Sent Messages and Message Trackings are too unweildy for you, you don't HAVE to get them in the first place. At the bottom of each PM, as you're composing it but before you send it, there are four boxes to check. Two are identical to regular messages on the board: automaticaly parse URLs and show signature. The other two boxes are "save a copy" and "request read reciept". If you uncheck those boxes, you will no longer have Sent Messages or Message Tracking in your personal PM folder.

Play around wth this stuff, folks, it ain't exactly a Rubix Cube. ;)

Well, it IS rather elementary ***** to me, 25-Wattson, but if you've got close to 200 messages and you're finding them a problem to manage, I'd say my above post isn't full of as much eye-rolling obviousness as you suggest. Otherwise you wouldn't have even been getting all those messages in your sent file to begin with.

But carry on. As you were.

spudracer

actually...all you have to do is delete your sent items and your box is empty...if you delete whats in your inbox and sent box...everything is cleared...it doesnt count the message tracking

For those of you who can actually access the Quizzes, the Best Picture Quote one is up now.

And I've got two more in the hopper: The Coen Brothers and Westerns.

She can't help the way she's drawn, Holden. ;) I've got your next two quizzes entered into the database and awaiting my confirmation. I'll likely post them publicly tonight. :) Gracias...one of these days, though, you're gonna write one I really wanna take on my own (In fact, I wish I could do so with the Coen Brothers Quiz)...and I'll have to write some script to allow you to enter it, so I don't know the answers. :D

It's so funny to go to the " who's online" page and see that everybody is using the private messages. I hope this doesn't put a damper on the forums...I'm not complaining, but I just want to be sure the forums are getting action too.;D

Yoda
11-26-01, 11:06 PM
Yeah, I've noticed that, too. At first it was just a few people, but now it's everyone. Over 1,300 messages have been sent...and this new forum/new feature has been up for less than a month. Apparently it was a welcome addition. :)

sadesdrk
11-26-01, 11:11 PM
Well, it was an obvious choice to put on. I mean, we were all getting to know each other's personalities so well, that the forums were becoming chat rooms, not especially what newcomers feel welcomed to. So I think it was a wise choice for this crowd.:D

Damn, you never saw that? I love that feature. If you ever see me reply to something less than a minute after it's posted, it's usually because I saw the person about to post through that. Great feature...

it is a riot getting to know everyone's "personality" through our conversations/posts on the forum...the PM feature is great, but there are still personal comments peppered throughout threads- and i like that.

something i haven't yet been able to deduce, and sades let me know if you have....is.......holden's shoe size.
