View Full Version : Favorite Movies Feature
Ok, sorry for the delay: this feature should work now. You can add/edit your favorite movies on the bottom half of the "Edit Profile (http://www.movieforums.net/member.php?action=editprofile)" page. The favorites will show up in the same way they have on my post here. Click the link on the left, and a window comes up listing my favorites. :) Enjoy, and please post any bugs you find here (I'm sure there are a few).

It works!! It works!! It's so hard thinking of 10 favorite movies, plus you just cant say they're in no particular order. That's what mine are though...in no particular order...:D

I still can't do it. It says I have to be logged in, but I am logged in.:(

Try refreshing the page...
Plus, if you're looking at your profile then you shouldn't be asked to log in.

it does though spud...it says in the little movie edit window, you can only edit movies if you're logged in. So what do I do then? Huh?

I'm just sad nobody has put ...almost in their list of favorites. :)
Sades: I've got that and another login problem on the to-do-so-that-the-MoFos-will-stop-yelling-at-me pile...I'll let you know if I can figure it out. :) Anyway, Ryan, it might be, but, uh, I think half a dozen people in the continental United States have seen it, only one or two of which are registered here, and none of which are certified MoFos. :)
I 'spect a FilmDallas film will really catch my fancy at some point, though, given the fact that I'm already biased to them, even though I haven't seen any.

Sure, but only if Stephanie is in it. :)
Hmmm, well, yeah, that's part of it. :) Anyway, you should put your 10 favorites in...I think it'd be great if we could get all the regulars here enterting theirs...I'm digging it so far.

I don't think I could narrow my favorites down to a list of only ten, but I gave it a shot.

Okay...I'm a little upset I still can't edit my favorite movies. It still says I have to be," logged in" How is that possible? I've accessed my profile, obviously I'm logged in:rolleyes: Sorry, T...I know you're working on it.:D I just feel left out.:(

Ok...That's good to hear.
Ok, I'm 99% sure it should work for one and all now. Sorry for all the problems. :)

wait...I clicked under the popcorn thing...and nothing came up...is that a problem for just me? Can you get my window of favs to come up?

I've been getting a "parse error in usr/home/webdev/mycoding/movieforums.net/docs/favorites.php on line 5" message in a few of the boxes today too, Commish, including when I click on your list specifically.
But it seems to come and go too.
Sades had the same error, which I then corrected. It shouldn't happen anymore (I think it was only a problem for a minute or two), but if it does, post here again, and I'll look into it.

It's weird, but I just tried it again with the "favorites" in this thread and it came up again on yours, same error. But then I "refreshed" the box itself and it corrected.
Everything seems hunky-dory now. :)
Well, I have a theory or two. I'd say that it's most likely that this is nothing more than a cache issue...which is a REAL pain when debugging problems...I imagine, therefore, that it'll either go away after a bit, or that clearing out your cache will clear up the problem immedietly. The only other theory I have is that the server isn't parsing the code correctly, though I'm hesitatant to go with that, because I think a different kind of problem would result.
Anyone else having issues with this feature? I'd like to get most of them ironed out as quickly as possible, and, at long-last, be done with it.

I've got all ten up and runnin' now. I'm so happy. I don't feel left out of the loop now. Joy! Rapture!
Speaking of the favorite movies people posted, I was amazed to see that all of patti's are older titles. There were other things I noticed too...when I think of them, I'll come back and let you know.:)
Oh yeah...spud has Swordfish as one of his top 10.
Holden doesn't have one released after 1990.

Your point Sadie??? I happened to like that movie. :D
Holden Pike
12-16-01, 11:14 PM
Sades doesn't have one released before 1986.
And not that it really matters, but she completely misspelled Glengarry Glen Ross, and technically it's The Princess Bride and The Usual Suspects.
:yup:
whoa, back up everybody.....sades will be chimin' in soon.....hehheh
i forgot about The Usual Suspects.....I WANT ELEVEN, I WANT ELEVEN........ CAN'T I HAVE ELEVEN T ?:p
No, sorry...because you'll see LOTR:FOTR soon enough, and then you'll want 12. :D

Too bad you don't have like a recommended movie section here TWT. I'm sure Holden, L.B., Patti, You, Sadie, Steve, etc., could provide some good movies to watch.

It feels like diving into a swimming pool filled with strawberry jell-o, and I think it will be fun and yummy, but once I jump in, I can't move....I'm sinking....and I look to the side of the pool, and you and Holden are standing there holding hands...and won't save me.....
MWHAWAMWAHHHHAWMWAHHHA!:laugh::laugh:

While you're in this pool of JELL-O...let's throw Julia, Mariah, and a couple other celebs you can't stand in there with you. :D Should make it interesting. Even more interesting....let's make a thread to see who you would jell-o wrestle if you had the chance.
I'll put it in the Intermission forum since it's really just a fun little diddy.
BTW, no one has commented on my recommended movie feature thing. Would be very handy. Like click on a name and it would say: Sadesdrk recommends, The Princess Bride, The Usual Suspects, and Glengary Glen Ross. Like I said before, it's just an idea.
It is a good idea...but it's really the same deal as the Favorite Movies thing, isn't it? Anything that's your favorite is something you surely recommend, I'd imagine.
sadesdrk
12-17-01, 02:09 PM
yeah...it seems like the same thing as the Favorites...but I see what spud is getting at. Maybe that can be a mainpage feature, some reccomendations from some of the members, like a complilation. Maybe we can all submit a couple to the list. It could say," MoFo recommends"... or something.
spudracer
12-17-01, 02:36 PM
Yeah, like if you like a movie that is just now in theaters list some movies like that that are available to rent, and that are recommended by some of us. :D
Holden Pike
12-17-01, 02:44 PM
Unless the page could include comments and a breif review - why we thought it was a good movie, if you liked ___ you'll like this, etc. - then there's no point to it. If it is just another list it isn't neccessary, it would be essentially the same as out "favorites".
Otherwise, just surf through the topics to see who likes what of what's in the theater or new on video, etc.
sadesdrk
12-17-01, 03:08 PM
Well, duh. Of course we'd have comments and reviews...I would expect nothing less from this crowd.
Holden Pike
12-17-01, 03:10 PM
You say "duh", but all that was being discussed was a list of forum favorites, not reviews and explinations of why they are recommended.
sadesdrk
12-17-01, 03:20 PM
THAT'S THE DUH....HOLDEN. IT DOESN'T NEED DISCUSSION, BECAUSE IT'S A DONE DEAL, SHOULD T DECIDE TO DO iT! OF COURSE WE WOULD DO THAT! OF COURSE! you are really pushing my buttons today. I love it.:)

 This is hilarious. I can't stop laughing.
I guess what we could do for now, is instead of linking to a review for the movie. Make sure each movie that relates to the one in theaters has a thread in the Review section on the boards. Then have a little compilation of some movies that are just like that one, and just have them as clickable which takes them to their related thread here on the boards. Make any sense??? I hope so, cause I'm typing so fast right now, I have no idea what I'm saying.

12-17-01, 03:39 PM
I wanna bust both of you open!
Hmmm, I think I see what you guys mean. The format is all that would need to be decided at this point. Here's what I'm thinking: I add news items about upcoming releases each week (assuming there's something significant opening then)...each film is accompanied by a comment from a forum member. To make this happen, however, you guys will have to want to do it...IE: I don't think I've got the space in my noggin to keep this going by myself. If you guys want to do it, I'll post it. If not, I'm gonna focus on adding other forms of content. IE: you're buying the puppy...so you've gotta run away with a plastic bag on your hand. :D

I'd do it, but I wouldn't be too much help in that area. I'm more DVDs than anything else. :D I suggest Sadie, Holden, L.B., TWT, Steve, Patti, Thmilin, OG-, Toose, etc.
I couldn't really think of anyone else for that, but those are the ones I think should do this. :D

12-17-01, 05:14 PM
Count me in.:)
there are a ton a movies i would love to recommend but wouldn't list as favotites because our favorites list is limited to ten, and to our favorite of favorites. ofcourse, it's not a sure thing suggesting movies, but i'd still try 'suedin' people to check out some cool mysteries, classics, film-noirs, et.al.

Most people go with what's popular, not with what's good. So suggesting movies is always a good idea. :D
