NOTE: I looked around and didn't see a comparable thread (besides this one (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=10635&highlight=art), which wouldn't work), but I could swear there was already a thread for this. Oh well, I'm starting a new one.

I don't know if there are any other artistic Mofos out there, but I've been an art student for nearly twenty years. Although I started college with an art degree in mind, I've sinced switched over to English; but I still like to exercise my artistic muscles every now and then. I've only recently snapped pictures of some of my work, so I figured I'd share. :D

Any and all other artistic Mofos are welcome to do the same. :yup:

My father posed for this one. What's funny is, he really was eating cookies and milk, so I included them. :)

This was a life drawing done for a class, which I exhibited in one of the campus art shows.

This was done for a former professor. It's a copy of David's "The Death of Marat (http://www.usc.edu/schools/annenberg/asc/projects/comm544/library/images/144bg.jpg)," which was this particular professor's favorite painting. It wasn't as successful a copy as I had hoped, but it has its merits. (Funny thing is, I never got around to giving it to him.)

I've got another drawing I did recently that I want to get a picture of, but it was a commission that I already gave away, so I'm trying to get the owner to snap a pic and send it to me. :)

Actually, yeah... I had always intended to give this to that professor some day, but I just haven't been very motivated to do so. I'll give selling it some thought.

I guess this is a good place to advertise that I take commissions. :D

Thanks, and it's good to see you posting again. :yup:

The middle drawing was done in graphite (sticks), but the other two were done with colored pencils, which is my favorite medium.

And no silly, that's Santa's list!

I am so sorry Sleezy! I didn't make the connection (your dad = Santa)...lol Again I will blame my stupidity on late night studying turning my brain to mush!

oh and I noticed on the last one it doesn't say "David" under "A MARAT" so I was wondering what it says there.

He likely switched because he knew an art degree will give him very limited career options when he's at the end....I almost went to college for fine art right out of high school but quickly changed my mind when my art teacher in high school asked me what I want to do with an art degree. I had no answer and upon research, an art degree gave me only two options that I would be interested in, restoration and illustration. Neither of those two options worked well with my art style. Thus, I decided to study my other passion, psychology. And hey, if I want, I could be an art therapist!

I agree. I was a music major my first attempt in college and it's such a competitive field that they don't call it "starving artist" for nothing! Now, I'm working on a degree for occupational therapy and playing music is now just a hobby!

Occupational therapy! I applied for that right out of high school. I got accepted to that as well as fine arts but again, psychology was more enticing to me....are you enjoying OT?

No worries. :) My dad doesn't actually have a beard like that, by the way... I had to pencil it in.

oh and I noticed on the last one it doesn't say "David" under "A MARAT" so I was wondering what it says there.

It says "Elzy," which is my last name, as per the way David signed the original painting.

I'm actually a better writer, and have since had more success in that area than in art/illustration.

That's somewhat true. An English degree will get me a lot of jobs - they just might not be the kinds of jobs I want. I'd love to get into editing, which I've also got experience in. Really, I just want to use my writing background as a stepping stone to get me into film school.

Interestingly enough, though, there's a HUGE market for graphic designers today, and I was a pretty competent design student. I'd have graduated and went right into a job making a good living, but I just couldn't see myself spending my life as a designer.

amazing work sleezy :yup:

Thanks. :)

Finally got an e-copy of this. I drew this for a good friend and co-worker.

USED: colored pencils and Micron, reference photo from the Internet, and a poem by Maureen Hawkins

Wow, love your style!

My own college portfolio is currently victim to spiderwebs and excessive moisture in the garage. I'll try to dig it out and scan some of it.

Sleezy, I love each piece of your work and the expressionism that each piece individualizes for them themself. They are all beautiful down. I will have to put some of my drawing and maybe photos on hear later.
