View Full Version : Forum software upgraded

Yoda

Hey everyone,

Sorry about the downtime; this time it was planned, however, as we were overdue for a software upgrade. You'll see some new features (and some more polished old ones) over the next 24 hours or so, most likely, but until then you'll see lots of bugs, too; broken images and the like. If you see anything more significant than a broken image, or something like the Shoutbox/reviews/box office updates missing, please post it here.

EDIT: here's a list of all reported bugs. Please try to avoid posting a bug that is already on this list. Fixed items have been crossed out:

Some users cannot edit Favorite Movies
Some users cannot view Favorite Movies dropdowns
User CP is missing items
Post ratings breakdown page broken
Glossary page broken
Some posts say "Thanks!" when they shouldn't
Rep totals in User CP broken
Shoutbox missing (mentioned above, in intial post)
Unable to edit favorite movies
"Last page" link leads to first page of threads
"Go to last page" button leads to first page of threads
Quick reply box gone
"X number of posts since your last visit" total lists all posts
Edit signature broken
"Happy Birthday/I Love You" code broken
New post rating/reputation system down
Can't send PMs
Can't edit posts
"View Spoilers" link doesn't work

Speaking of signatures. Does Firegod usually have 296 quotes in his signature??? It makes each thread page really long!

Check it out (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=2444)

Oh and I'm digging the new options in the posting window. The size of fonts and colour choice is cool. There's still more features not appearing but yeah like you said Chris it's a work in progress. Looking good tho!

This may or may not be down to the software upgrade, but the rate post function seems to be missing and if I click on 'last' to go to the last page of a long thread it takes me to the first page regardless. Anyon else getting this?

What I see so far:
quick reply is missing
359677 new posts since your last visit
all the editing buttons are screwy
the shoutbox is missing
the rating the post thing is missing
in the User CP my rating is missing as well as the comments and I can't view my messages
On the thread, "I love you, so and so" it doesn't show my name, just the code bbusername....
when I click on "last page" for a thread, it takes me to the very first post instead of the last page.

My guess, when the board was upgraded, it made it appear all brand new to us. There have been 359,679 since my last visit, but there are only a total of 355,931 post, on the board. That first number probably includes every thread, and/or post, that has been deleted in the past. Hey, it's a theory. Besides, he has mentioned allot of these flaws, in his first post. So I assume they will all work out eventually. :) Just my 2 cents worth!

Alright guys, I've made note of everything so far. There's a list in the first page of this thread now. Please, if at all possible, only report new bugs from here on out.

Several have bene fixed already, and I plan to have all the major functions (and most of the less crucial ones) restored very quickly.

If it's what it sounds like, I'd LOVE this feature I hope I'm right! What you do is, you click those buttons for each post you wish to quote and then you push 'Post Reply' button. It puts those quotes in your new reply. Awesome feature, if I do say so myself.

It allows you to quote multiple messages at once. Just click the multi-quote button on each post you'd like to quote, then reply, and all the quotes will be in the message area already.

Cooler still is the fact that you can leave the thread and come back, and they should still be toggled. You can even go off and select other posts in other threads, and the next time you reply to ANY thread, the quotes from that thread will be there, with a notice below the message area informing you that you've selected quotes from other posts, as well, and asking you if you want to include them.

Yoda
02-25-07, 02:09 AM
Regarding the features that are "crossed off" but not fixed; there's actually a bit of a misunderstanding here. The rep system was completely gone at first; no thumbs to click on or anything. That is what was fixed, which is why it's crossed off. Ditto for favorite movies; the ability to add and update them was gone, but has since been fixed.

Ummm...if I click on the Favorite Movies in my own posts, nothing happens. Is it supposed to go somewhere? To my own list to edit? It does nada. (It's an old bug but I mention it because you have it crossed off like it's fixed.)
I'm unable to duplicate this; I can see my favorites as well as others. What browser are you using? Is it IE7? Were you able to see the favorite movies before the upgrade?

Actually that's kind of sweet. Saves you from opening this forum again in another window just to track down all the posts you want to copy and paste to your one post.

okay, just two things. the quick replies seem to auto-title themselves "re:thread title" not huge just a little annoying to delete. but the bigger annoyance is that the button to go to the end of a thread is broken, just takes you to first post, not last one.

Button fixed.

The auto-title was a decision, actually, rather than a bug. Most people leave the title fields blank, which can muck up the occasional search result ever so slightly. I assumed that people who left them blank did so out of indifference, as I couldn't think of a reason they would specifically desire that they be left blank. Let me know if I'm missing something.

Will the Shoutbox be up in time for the Oscars?
Read my mind. :) All ready to go (http://www.movieforums.com/community/shoutbox.php). What's an Oscar night without a box to shout in?

I've taken down the "Chat Room" one. The other two -- Post Ratings and Glossary -- will follow before long, but are relatively low priority compared to the board's more basic functions, naturally. :)

He's a big ass already, Piddy. Oops, wait, that's not what you meant.

Yoda, I was hoping the Multi-Quote thing would let you break up someone's previous post into multiple little things you could reply to off and on. As it is now, you have to go back and add in the end-quote HTML stuff and then opening-quote HTML stuff to every part you want to quote -- assuming you want to break up a post into bits and pieces and respond to the pieces separately.

Oh well -- not what I was hoping for, but still a cool feature.

As for my Favorite Movies -- I'm fairly sure clicking on my own (in one of my posted replies in a thread, not the UserCP) brought up my list before. Although I couldn't swear to that, no. Now, clicking on someone's list in their post works, but clicking on my own does not.

And yes, I use IE 7 (I'm poised to go ALL VISTA ALL THE TIME, BABY! Got it on the laptop and next will transition the desktop computer too.). :)

It sounds like you guys are talking about two seperate things to me; Sleezy, you can't add your favorite movies. My understanding is that Austruck can, but simply cannot view them on her own posts.

I'll have to look into this further. This is tricky, because I'm unable to duplicate the problem; I can see Austruck's favorite movies, as well as everyone else's, and I can certainly add and update my own.

Sleezy: what browser are you using? Also, are you making sure to hit the Submit button? Just hitting enter/return might not do it.

They should only say "Thanks!" if you've rated them. Or if you gave them positive rep under the old system (which was carried over to this one). Does it ever happen on posts you're entirely sure you've never repped, or would this possibly explain it?

Alright, I've added a few more bugs (with the caveat that only some users appear to be experiencing some of them) to the first post in this thread.

To anyone having trouble adding favorite movies: while I do want to get to the bottom of this, in the meantime, I'd be more than willing to add the movies manually. Just PM them to me (http://www.movieforums.com/community/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) and I'll have them in ASAP. At least that way you won't have to wait for me to figure out what's going on. :)

No, sorry.

I've seen boards that have giant avatars and signature images, and they're really ridiculous to navigate. Not to mention that they tend to attract people who aren't really there for the discussion. I've given these sorts of things a fair amount of thought over the years, and try to lean towards simplicity and minimalism when possible.

It shouldn't; the new software should be more efficient. That said, I did turn on an option for improved read/unread thread marking that might have slowed things a bit. I've turned it back off since. Let me know if you notice a difference.

Right clicking is for grandmas and other types of slow things.

I know how to do that. My point is, it use to copy/paste by right clicking, and it doesn't now. I would rather it did again, but I will live if it doesn't. I was simply asking if I was the only one with the problem.

I can copy and paste ok, by right click or keyboard shortcut.

Thank you for letting me know. :)
Maybe after I reformat tonight, all of my trivial, and greater problems, will be gone. This is a weird one. I swear, it is only happening on this board. Oh well!

Can anyone attach files to their posts right now? I can't :(

I'll see if it's just this computer because it's been acting strange lately. I'll try the laptop and let you know if it's just me or not.

Nope it's not just the computer...hmm.

Nope, it's not just you. I'll look into it further this evening.

If I try to rate posts I get 'only registered users can rate posts'. But I am a registered user...I can post replies, it has my name at the top ofthe page and evrything...

Sorry about that; I fixed a bug the other day that inadvertantly broke part of the rating system in the process, it seems. I've since rolled the change back; let me know if that fixes things.

Suppose I'll just have to find another way to squash the other bug. :)

Didn't know where to put this so I'll put it here. Mofo can't load for me at all in the morning, I can only get on after 12:00pm....weirdness...and then it's a fairly slow load...any ideas?

Yeah, this has kinda become a bug/suggestion/complaint thread, I suppose. Ah well.

Anyway, yes, there's been some regular downtime over the last several days; always in the mornings, it seems. Rob, the generous fellow who hosts this site, is looking into the matter now. I'm sorry for any inconvenience, MoFos. Servers can be temperamental things. We should have this straightened out for good quite soon.
