The pivotal elections are coming up this November and for once, Im stablized and can vote (yes, I missed the last presidential election, shame on me, but I was in between residences and had no idea where I was registered to vote).

Anyway. Oh, Im registered this time honey. Oh yes. That aside! :D

That aside - what do you guys think about the fact that all of a sudden Barack Obama (Dem- IL) "may" run for the Presidency? Seemably, everyone is pushing it, but I think it is an EXTREMELY BAD idea.

Why? Because. WHY in the world should Barack fight Hillary Rodham Clinton?? It would be an intense and highly publicized race, but it would split the Democratic Party. Ok, I've just out-thought myself - when I read about it this morning all I could see were the CONS, but Im beginning to see that there may be PROS to this.

If in a normal case, you couldnt get a woman president, or a black president - if both Democratic favorites are "minorites" (gender/race), it will force the public to choose what the public feels is the lesser evil, but the public's "lesser evil" will still be a minority?

Ok. So that may win the Dem Primary, but how can the Dems win the Presidency??

Obama's "political stock" is on a powerful and rapid trajectory, and he has the "man" factor going. Hillary Clinton is already a favorite with great political stock, and she has the "non-minority" factor going.

I just have a bad feeling this could get very....very ugly, and may cost more than it could win for the party.

Any thoughts?

I really don't think it will matter much who's going up against Hillary in the Democrats Primary. If Hillary herself wants to run for president I can't see anything within her own party that would be able to stop her on the way. She's a much too strong and powerful person, well-known both in USA and in the rest of the world, for her to be harmed by dirty campaigns or cheap shots. If there was a personality of the same dignity as Hillary from a so called minority group, then it could be interesting. But, to my knowledge there are no such figures. If she will be up against Rice it would of course be strategically correct for her to run with a black man as candidate for the vice presidency. But there is always a risk that important issues like race and gender are running, which is threatening to reduce them into symbolic vote magnets without any real content. I sincerely hope that none of the parties presents a candidate chosen solely because of skin color or solely because of a specific gender.

Btw, I'm absolutely no expert on american politics, I only follow what finds it way to my part of the world.

Hillary Rodham Clinton should not..NOT run for president. Why!? Because, I personally don't like her. She's never done anything to me, but something about her just makes me think that she would be a pushover when it came to world issues. Not saying that a woman couldn't hold the seat, but I don't think she could. Yeah, she won New York over, but that's one state.

Barack, I think would be a much better candidate, not because he's African-American, but I think he would bring a much different view to the seat. From all the articles that are being written about him, he's working his way to the top, and maybe not the next Presidential election, but soon, he'll get it.

While I don't keep up with both, I would say that he's got a much better resume.

He he... An argument as good as any.

You think? I don't know, I get the impression she's kind of tough with some big balls somewhere under that dress (ok, ok.. I'm sorry!). I actually get some Thatcher vibes both when Hillary and Condoleezza are on Tv.
