Vote on the Flirting Issue

I have to say that way back when...I was against flirting. That was when Kyra,Keilie, and that other chick were here. They ONLY came on here to flirt. PLite(poor chap, he's only 15) got drug into their flirtatious affairs...and we all know how that went(I realize there were other issues too).Anyhoo...now I'm feeling like flirting is not okay period. That seems so hard-nosed. It's totally bogus to think it isn't going to happen. I guess I'm taking all the flack for it because I'm the easiest target. Who else is there to flirt with besides me, thmilin, and patti? I post here the most consistantly, so I guess I'm being singeled out. I don't just post to flirt...I have over 1000 posts...the majority, movie related. Guess I just want to see how you all stand on this issue.

I say it's not an issue. People are making it more of an issue by drawing so much attention to it. Jeez, it's so not out of control. What do you guys expect...people have a lot in common here and common intrests bring people together...you'd be crazy to think NO ONE is going to say something playful to anyone else. Lighten up. That's what I say.

I voted for "It bothers me because it takes up thread space and draws away from topic discussion" -- this site has never, and will never, take a "100% no-flirting" rule seriously...it will never be set, nor enforced. I am not so naive as to somehow believe that we can avoid all flirting and off-topic discussion. HOWEVER, I do think we can avoid the kind that interferes with other people's discussion...which is, let's face it, fairly rude. Some people really enjoy some of these discussions, and, I'm sorry, but if others are putting an end to the discussion with off-topic chatter and flirting, then I have no qualms at all about asking them to please stop.

It has it's place, and it WILL happen...my conern lies with it interfereing with enjoyable discussion for others...which I have little doubt that it does at times.

hey, i voted that i could care less.... any flirting that's coming my way has been in response to my own flirting. i think it's playful and harmless, but i totally see how it would bug other members who are'nt at all interested in the flirtation/topic/joke and feel the thread is being compromised. i feel bad cuz i have been flirting lately and kinda bummed that it's causing any disruption to other members. but sades, didn't you say in your opening paragraph that you think no flirting is okay, and then in the next post you said it's okay and harmless?
i'll abide by whatever is decided...but i'm kinda bummed.

people will flirt. it's true, and we agree on that.

i also agree with chris - if it leads the discussion away so that people cannot come back to it easily - then it's out of hand.

the ultime decider is chris, of course.

but how about this - just be respectful of others.

if you do begin to flirt, it IS a very simple task to just go back and DELETE your older rather unuseful posts. i think this is kosher. i know some want to rack up the # of posts but counting one-liner winks is really not cool. might as well delete those esp when the flirts are more than a few exchanges long. you could just delete the older parts and leave the newer and as the discussion progresses just be sure to remove your extraneous input.

after all, that's what IMs are for.

Good point thmilin. I agree that flirting here isn't as bad as it used to be, but it's still a threat to threads. Granted, flirting is one of the most common ways people express themselves. Just leave it at the door when you come here. Try and keep it down to a minimum, and with the new forum, you can send members messages off the board so it won't be as much as a problem. :)

I'm not knockin Titanic cause I went and saw it at the theater four times, then when it came out on video(before I had a dvd) I bought it and watched it a few more times. Don't know why, but I liked it. So when I was saying something to sades about don't do something I started sputtering that line and tried to remember where it came from. I remembered and thought, well I'll see who else knows that line. :D
