View Full Version : New Spoilers Tag
I've wanted to do this forever. I experimented for hours with JavaScript something like two years ago, at one point, trying to create a script that could automatically highlight spoilers. This week, however, it occurred to me that I could achieve the same effect (only better) with a bit of DHTML. Here's the result:
Rosebud's his sled. And all you didn't even have to drag your cursor over any text to find out, either.
I can now die happy.
This change is retroactive, so all previous uses of the spoilers tag will now operate this way.
Hmmm, doesn't seem to do anything when I click the reveal....

It's working for me.
Now, about these retroactive changes...
Please invent a diet that works that way.
Thanks in advance.

Very cool.... thanks O' Wise One... :)

I had to add a couple of JavaScript functions to the thread display page, so it's possible it's a minor cache problem. Can you try a hard-refresh, and perhaps a cache clearing, and let me know if you still have the problem?

It doesn't work for me. I tried a refresh, and I even cleared out my cache. Still nothing.
Sweet! I love it Chris. :D

Is there an error in the status bar of your browser? If so, what does it say? Also, can you view the source of the page, run a search, and tell me if the phrase "function show" appears anywhere?
Viewed the source, and it does have a "function show" entry (aside from your reply, of course.)
No error in my bar. Still not seeing it. I am on latest Firefox, but I am also walled, not sure if that matters.

When I click on "View Spoilers", the page just refreshes itself.
It's a problem with FireFox, then. I'm running some tests now but so far it's looking pretty bizarre.
Okay, fixed. Looks like it was the HTML doctype, if you can believe that.

Works great, so thanks Chris...
...but.
Whaddabout those poor people who've never seen Citizen Kane? The suspense concerning the workings of the new spoilers tags must be killing them! :D
I've got a blue toilet seat.
Ah wait, it's backwards compatible you say?
As you were, everyone...
I just wanna test this out....
