I'd love to see American History X get some new extras thrown it's way, along with Equilibrium.
As for a movie that I wish to actually become a DVD....
The Monster Squad.

If I had to pick one film that was a childhood favourite, this would get my vote!

Is this gonna be renamed The Blade Runner Thread? :D
Ken Branagh's Hamlet also needs releasing sharpish and, if we're talking about films which I can't walk into my local store to buy (I've got them anyway but that ain't the point), I'll throw in Altman's Short Cuts, Mike Leigh's Naked and Olivier Assayas' Irma Vepp (purely because of Maggie Cheung in a latex catsuit) - none of which are available on R2.

The Witchfinder General, with the original score (not the stupid keyboard crap of the American release), and not in a damn 2-on-1 package. Vincent Price's turn as Matthew Hopkins is really his only truly sinister performance, and it deserves a little recognition in the American market.
Blade Runner - My favorite film of all time, and one of the worst DVD transfers out there today. This NEEDS to be released with a new transfer and maybe some special features, as the current release doesn't even have a menu!

Good call with Hamlet. I haven't kept track, how many of Branagh's films have been released on DVD?
I was glad to see the recent release of The Virgin Spring by the Criterion Collection, I'd like to see them go back and get some of the earlier films from Kurusawa's career, especially the pre-Mifune stuff from the mid and late 1940s.
Ken Branagh's Hamlet also needs releasing.
Warner is currently hard at work on a long-awaited DVD release of Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet. The title is (as yet) unannounced, but it's been confirmed that they're working to get the disc on store shelves before the end of 2006.

I haven't kept track, how many of Branagh's films have been released on DVD?
In R1, of the eight films he's directed thus far, five have been released (Henry V, Dead Again, Much Ado About Nothing, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Love's Labour's Lost) and three have not (Peter's Friends, A Midwinter's Tale and Hamlet).
And a Hamlet DVD is currently in the works, by the by.

Hear My Song (1991 - Peter Chelsom)
That's a great little film. I've got it on VHS, along with a few of your list. A friend of mine used to go out with Adrian Dunbar in the days of fuel shortages and loon pants. ;)
On a Branagh tip - it's not a movie but I've been waiting patiantly for years to see a release for The Billy Plays (1982-84) where Ken first came to the public attention. There's some wrangling over the rights apparently...

That's a great little film. I've got it on VHS, along with a few of your list.
I have Hear My Song on LaserDisc, so I'm not exactly sweating a release - but it definitely needs to happen. I own bunches of those titles on LD: Here Comes Mr. Jordan, Brute Force, Macbeth, They Live by Night, The Gunfighter, Lonely Are the Brave, Performance, Brewster McCloud, The Anderson Tapes, Charley Varrick, Thieves Like Us, Freebie & the Bean, The Yakuza, They All Laughed, Under the Volcano, The Chocolate War, The Music of Chance, King of the Hill and The Butcher Boy. I have most of the others on VHS.
Some of the television shows I still want to be released on DVD are...
"Get A Life" (full season sets)
"The Larry Sanders Show" (only season one available)
"It's Garry Shandling's Show" (1986-1990)
"Barney Miller" (only season one available)
"Newhart" (1982-1990)
"Doctor, Doctor" (1989-1991)
"St. Elsewhere" (1982-1988)
"Maverick" (full season sets)

- Face/Off (Woo, 1997)

Depalma's Blow Out needs a better release. It's one of my absolute favorites and I'm really starting to get tired of the bare-bones copy I've got now. It's a decent transfer, but the sound is a little shaky and could I get a frippin' featurette or two?
None that I know of that aren't on DVD, but as for a "better edition"...
- True Lies (Cameron, 1994)
I'd like that too. I found out that the R2 Germany and Japan dvds have a 23 and 25 minutes featurette but so far the R1 still has zippo for special features. It's been over 10 years and would be nice to finally see a nice double disc edition come out.

The Thing and Army of Darkness both already have fully-loaded special editions. What more do you reckon could be done with them?
As for the Leone flicks, there already is a terrific GB&U two-disc edition, and new SEs of the first two movies are coming. They're already available in R2, but rights issues had held them up for a while in the U.S. They are coming though, and I'm sure at some point all three of those discs will be packaged together.

I can think of plenty. Living in an R4 zone, you tend to get seriously bad DVD transfers for the most part.
Although I reckon all Kubrick's DVDs should get a 2-disc special edition. They did it for Dr. Strangelove.

Why don't you get yourself a multi region dvd player? Or you could try and find a region hack for the dvd player you already have, They are easy enough to find, Have a look here (http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/hackable.asp) and see if your player is listed.

Holden, how many laser disc machines do you have currently in operating condition and how many have you gone through since the 80's?
I didn't get my first Laser Disc player until 1993, and it never really stopped working but I did get a new one in 1998 that was a combination LD/DVD player. That one still works great and I watch LDs on it all the time (in fact I'm burning a DVD-R from my Rear Window LD as I type this). I currently have three other DVD players in addition to that machine, and I've found DVD players to be much less durable than the two LD players I had.
Laser Disc? Yikes. Haven't seen one of those in aaages.
but I did get a new one in 1998 that was a combination LD/DVD player.
I always figured they stopped making them beyond the early 90's. I honestly even forgot they were around till my friend mentioned them a few years back. Remembered seeing them in stores at the time when I was a kid. They were playing the movie "Airplane" over and over in some store that was selling it. But yeah, weird how that technology was around that long ago when many think that it only began around a decade or so ago.
When it comes to bonus features, American History X and City of God are two of the worst DVDs out there. I want those two to get revamped extras.
And on another note, the only time I've ever seen Requiem for a Dream was on my DVD, but I've heard that a different version was shown in theaters. It's not available on my DVD.
I'd think if they ever put out another Requiem DVD they'd put the original in there.

Don't bother. It (Requiem) just had a couple of the scenes re-cut to avoid the X rating. Stick with the original, which is on DVD...

Unlike a lot of people, I didn't really like the Batman Begins two disc set edition. The extras didn't seem all that great and felt very brief and a bit too technical, at least for me. I would like an ULTIMATE EDITION set of Batman Begins with an exhaustive making of feature, akin to the Spiderman 2 documentary on that disc.
A director's commetary with star Christian Bale wouldn't be out of the question too. I suspect they'll have the definitive version by the time The Dark Knight hits the big screens.
Oh, and I am quite a bit of a fan of Robert Rodriguez's The Faculty, so wouldn't mind a special edition of that. I don't know if they have one in the US, but the UK edition is as vanilla as Vanilla Ice!

1st: Prospero's Books. Why isn't this available?
2nd: The Ruined Map. There was a Japanese dvd edition but it's now out of print.
3rd: The Baby of Macon. I'm just curious to see it. But this one isn't even easy to find on vhs (unlike Prospero).
4th: Rikyu (a pattern is emerging). Actually I'm pretty satisfied with my no frills Chinese dvd -- I'm sure it's a huge step up from the American pan-and-scan version -- but still wouldn't mind having a nice remastered edition.

I love Rikyu, it's a beautiful film. The actor who played Rikyu, Rentaro Mikuni, is also very good in Profound Desire of the Gods, Vengeance is Mine, and Juzo Itami's sequel to A Taxing Woman in which he plays a lecherous and very unprincipled priest.
I remember you said you haven't seen Woman in the Dunes yet? By the same director as Rikyu, I think you will like it.
Looking back at my last post, since I wrote that I found a good, European dvd of Prospero's Books. It was a bit pricey because it's only available in a set of 5 Rotterdam Film Festival winners, but I've watched it a lot so it's been worth it.
A new one I would like to see is Tod Browning's West of Zanzibar (1928) which I've been reading up on and saw a clip from on youtube, and it looks very interesting.

I agree with james_Sparrow, Blade Runner bored the s**t out of me, definately a disappointment.
I'd like to see Nickelodeon's Doug on dvd.
I don't understand why Nickelodeon won't release dvds of old shows, I think many people, like me, who remember them would buy them.

Would love to see the Godfather in chronological order on DVD, I think maybe in a few years time when Coppola wants a few more dollars. As for the present another set of DVD,s to be released shortly is a waste of time

A friend has just linked me to this article about Wong Kar Wei's Ashes of Time (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/awards_festivals/fest_reviews/article_display.jsp?&rid=11135) being re-released on the big screen so hopefully a better dvd will follow :)

The Color of Moneycould be released with special features. It's one of my favorite movies and would love to see a few featurettes about the making of the film.

I would also like to see a Star Wars collection with all six episodes and tons of extra features. I haven't bought any of them because surely this will be released before too long. I think Raising Arizona should be be released as a special edition.

Sadly I want a special edition of mars attacks. With behind the scenes, bloopers, quotes, and more.

Why aren't Woody Allen's movies released with more extras. Most of them are released with a theatrical trailer and thats about it.

Why aren't Woody Allen's movies released with more extras. Most of them are released with a theatrical trailer and thats about it.
Most probably because Woody plainly refuses to revisit a film once he's finished making it. Mark Kermode interviewed him a couple of years ago, and tried to get him to watch and talk through selected scenes. Allen turned his back on the screen adamant that he never views his films after completion.
Still commentary from some of the stars would be nice, plus any making of footage they could dig up.

Because Woody is a filmmaker who doesn't like talking about or revealing his process. Never has been, at this point I'd say he's probably never going to be.
