Transamerica

I totally agree. That photo has absolutely nothing to do with the film or the character - it's basically a picture of Felicity being herself going to the Oscars, or a pic of her character from Desperate Housewives, neither of which belong on the cover of a film that is uniquely about a male identifying as a woman.

The point is the voyage and the struggle and appearances - and showing a glammed up perfect version of someone who is not the character in the film denies the character the film is about, the film itself, and all those whom the character represents (transsexuals).

I'm certain you guys didn't read this, but the cover is going to be holographic.

It's going to go between Felicity pre-op to Felicity after op. It'll have both images that you'll be able to shine between.

If you scroll down a bit on this news section from DavisDVD,

http://www.davisdvd.com/archive/news/0306.html

And find Transamerica, there's a link to the altering image.

So don't feel too upset about it.

it still shows Felicity glam as the first image you see, going to Bree. the initial image should not even be on the box. it's still being used and done for the wrong reasons.

i'm not severely upset, mostly disgusted.

Now it says, "Desperate Housewives fans, come here. Pick me up. Move me back and forth. Oooooh... OOOOOOHHHHHH... you're turning me into a transsexual! Ooooh..."

It's supposed to show you the progression of her going from one stage to another (Felicity Huffman 'BEFORE' and 'AFTER' makeup) for Transamerica.

The marketing dept for this idea should be fired, forever.

yeah, der, i get that. my point is that felicity huffman has nothing to do with the movie and shouldn't be on the box looking like that because she doesn't look like that ANYWHERE in the movie. her character is bree, you should only see Bree, pre or post op doesn't matter - but only the character, not the star.

how about this - for Brokeback Mountain, let's put a picture of Jake Gyllenhaal handsome at a premiere party in a tux freshly shaven with his eyes all sparkly (to the left). THEN put a picture of him in his 1970s garb looking mutinous and forlorn in love with his fellow sheep herder.

it's still a messed up marketing ploy.

Sex sells...this reminds me of the cover for Cronos (1993) in which the 'mechanism' is climbing up the heaving bosom of a little lady, nothing to do with the film content...no bosoms anywhere (yes, I was disappointed).

Or, Jake Gyllenhaal naked except for a black patch at his crotch. When you turn the DVD upside down, the black patch disappears and yeehaw!
heheh yeehaw. Too funny.

But I'm thinking more like:

"What the HELL!!"

They would hump your leg for a dollar o' five... and ask you to call them all Stumpy. So yes they would. It will feel like love until you had to dig deep in the pockets and pull out your dollar menu loot and pay the $1.05.

What? Oh...wrong thread?

Sorry.

In related news, check out the before and after pics of some models, here (http://homepage.mac.com/gapodaca/digital/blonde/blonde1.html). This is how pretty much all of the big time magazines edit their shots... It really makes you think about the bizzare, plastic mirage that has been put over a lot of what we see daily.

Altered reality sells, folks...
