View Full Version : Kelly Clarkson
Ok, I've already shown my love for Shakira, now I want to praise Kelly Clarkson. Yes, she was on that smaltzy tv show, American Idol. But this girl can sing. And I like that's she's not tall, skinny, blonde and blue eyed. She's short, a little stocky (or used to be) and brunette. She's cute but not an "Oh, I'm so fabulous Jessica Simpson." She's not cashing in on her body, she's succeeding on her voice.
Kelly's talent is only limited by the songs she's given.

okay okay, don't shoot me, yes i know she is easy to and even fun to poke fun at...but...
the woman sings her heart out and deserves all the praise she can get.

That's right. ;) A pox on all the Kelly haters!
I think she's the love child of Janis Joplin and Linda Ronstadt.

I think she has a decent set of pipes… I just don't particularly care for her songs (so far)… and I didn't even know she was one of the American Idol bunch until I heard something about it on the radio the other day…

rather than the fact that she cannot write her own?

I like her a great deal....from her singing to her image. I'm glad she still seems down to earth and hasn't gone the pop Diva route. I think the younger girls of today need a solid role model like her and isn't...welll...like Britney and a few other diva's that will do...I'd better stop before my rant really takes off. :p
There's a great article on her in Time magazine. If your interested. Here. (http://www.time.com/time/archive/preview/0,10987,1156616,00.html)

Actually, she wrote or co-wrote six of her songs on her Breakaway CD. Including Behind these Hazel Eyes and Because of You.

heh heh...i was wondering about that when Smeg wrote that, thinking "not too sure about that"...plus, who cares if she doesn't. i mean, why do all performers have to be songwriters? I'm not knocking it...I love poetic singers, but just because someone doesn't have the whole package doesn't mean they should be looked down upon...
anywoo, I only know her popular songs but I agree about the rolemodel thing...she has more talent in her pinkie finger than most the bleached blonde crazies running around out there have total...

I love Kelly Clarkson, and she must be fabulous, her name was shouted out in a movie, right? The husband sometimes changes the lyrics to "since you've been gone" to "wish you were gone" when he's mad at me...;)

Thanks for that Time article. Now I like her even more. :D
In the first American Idol, Kelly was in the background at first. Hardly even noticed. But eventually, her strong vocals couldn't be ignored. I think it was her rendition of RESPECT that made everyone go "whoa!"
Kelly is the anti-Britney and I like it! :D
BTW, I've watched Kelly's AOL In Session videos (all terrific) and she does one song that has an Amy Lee goth sound to it. Just a touch but it's there. I think she could sing anything...pop, rock, country, soul, blues...anything.

You can't deny that since you been gone is one truly catchy song.

She is pretty thin now, and she didn't get big in the music industry until she got tiny in the waist.
