View Full Version : Valentine's Day
What are your plans, guys? No need for graphic details. Unless you're a good writer. Then spill. But, slowly.

The first reply shouldn't really rain on the parade, but that is everybody else's fault for not replying sooner:cool:
I have never been a fan of Valentine's day, I do not know the precise reason why. Maybe it is because I do not like being told what I should do, so the "this is the day you should make the extra special effort" mentality puts my back up. Why should this day be any more special than any other day with my girlfriend at the time.
Of course, I never really got any Valentine's when I was younger, so maybe I just resent everybody that does:D

I have a friend, Sean. He hates Valentine's day, but for the main reason he "is a worthless loser with no girlfriend." Those are his words, not mine. haha, he will go out of his way to literally seperate couples on the street. If a couple are holding hands, he will force his way between them. Yep, he has been beaten up over this! On Valentines Day he is even worse, he will go out seaking couples and tell depressing stories about his life with no woman. This is all true, if you can believe it.
I also tend to think like you Smeg, why should Valentine's day be any different from any other day with your partner? However, I think many couples that have been together for a very long time, with all that comfort, will use this day for just the two of them, especially if they have kids and their work schedule is hectic. Some couples don't have time to celebrate the two of them and what they have together, and their love. But for the people who go out and seek a date for Valentines Day, that is kinda stupid imo. What are you celebrating? sex???
I'm going to be sulking, as well as spitting on any happy couples I see.
No, I'm not bitter.

When I was seven, on Valentines, I gave Clifton a plasticine heart.....my plasticine heart and he laughed.
What am I doing valentines? A course on Intravenous drugs.
I'm not planning anything huge; probably some flowers. Just trying to settle some of the logistics. The girl I'm dating would be perfectly content if we just went out to see a movie or something, but I like surprising people.
A couple years ago I went all-out with someone else on Valentine's Day; flowers, giant stuffed animal, et cetera. It went over quite well.
It was a stuffed puppy, in case you were wondering. It was huge.

I do not support the consumerism of Valentine's Day- love is free.
I do however support 50% off all holiday candy on February 15th.

I'm going to work… and keep my fingers, eyes, and toes crossed that everyone, who was expected to, caved in to the commercialization of Valentines and bought the proper flowers, chocolates, diamond, car, red see-through nighty, or what ever so I don't have to answer any type of domestic disputes… Other then that… bah humbug…
red see-through nighty,
I am hoping for one of these, but I can never find XXXXL:mad: anything else bunches up.

In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favourite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!"

Its going to be just like any other Tuesday. Get up, work, work some more, go home, eat, watch tv, sleep. Nobody special in the picture this year.
You know what? This year, for Valentine's Day, I'm going to hit on somebody. I don't care who it is. It could be an 84-year old church lady at Walmart for all I care. And I'm not even going to try for digits. I'm going to lay it on thick and cheesy - as cheesy as entirely possible. It should be fun, and hell, the lucky lady and I will each get a Valentine's Day story to share for years to come. :)

uh...I guess I should give my mom a card. Kinda wierd but it makes sense if you think about it. Other than that: same as any other day. Btw Gummo, that Sean guy sounds hilarious. Morrissey's morbid sense of humor, but much less passive agressive.

aww, ford. that's love.
anti-vday people - then why do we have mlk, jr day, or mother's day?
it's a day set aside to honor something special, and make that something special feel ... well ... special. you should of course do your best to make that something special feel special every OTHER day of the year, but since we rarely do that, this is a day the world at large digs a sharp fork in your spine to remind you to do whatever it is required to make your sweetheart happy.
it is consumerism, because businesses realized cheap lazy b@stards would rather just buy some candy than dance in a g-string for their woman. so, if you would put some energy to it, we could stop hallmark from holding gonads across the world on this, most special, and auspicious, day.
oh, and i don't believe i've ever had a valentine. *thinks*
nope, none come to mind. me and my girlfriends are gonna dress like divas and go sink our teeth into some unsuspecting males on the dance floor. preferably in san francisco, with cabs ferrying our drunk @sses.

The funny thing is though over the last few days, for every valentines card i have sold, i have selected a booger (bogey) from my secret collection under the tills and i have been swiftly attaching them to the cards as i put them in the bag. BOGEYS FOR YOUR LOVED ONE!
By the by im not bitter.

Considering the only Valentines Days i've been with someone, i can't remember what we actually did (if anything :(), this is pretty much a normal day. Though we got strippers at our student union tonight
On a bummer side, my friend went nuts at me last night for seemingly no reason and decided she didn't want to be friends with me anymore. So whatever.

Going off topic a bit, I've always wondered why some men buy their girlfriends thongs for their birthdays. Is it a present for the girl, or the guy? I think we know...

Hmmm… without knowing any of the details or the friend, it would be hard to second guess why your friend went nuts… but your first sentence might be a clue… not that I am saying she was the one you were with… but you've made numerous posts in the last few months that lead me to believe last Valentine's Day may not be the only day you don't remember what you did or said… And I don't mean to sound like I am passing judgment... I'm just trying to give you something to think about... Good friends are hard to come by and I hope you two work it out... :)

I don't know many people that celebrate getting one of those, but hey, I'm not here to judge.
for the record, I f***in hate this holiday
At the start of valentines day I was all chilled about it. You know I see people kissing and i'm like 'yeah that's nice for them' and I see a person delivering a message+present to my neighbour and I think 'yeah that's nice too'. Seeing as I don't have a girlfriend I didn't really think about it that much, in Melbourne it's not such a big deal unless you are attached. BUT THEN.....
A whole lot of my friends (girls) went all funny.....they started convos with me all cheery 'happy valentines day!' and all that, but then they went on to talk about how they were upset they didn't get any valentines. Quite a few of my friends (girls) met up without any guys (most unusual) to comfort each other with chocolate and icecream. Seriously it's not such A BIG DEAL....uhh it just annoyed me that my normally well-ballanced friends get all emotional about one little day  I can see it would be good for couples but valentines day just seems to cause stress for too many people.

I'm glad you two seem to have worked it out… but I have a question that is more for you to think about then answer… Is there a possibility she could have gotten so upset because she wants to be more then a friend? I know guy who distanced himself from a mutual friend for that reason…
And I never meant to imply I thought you were an alcoholic...

That probably is it, only vice versa- i think i've been in love with her since we met. As far as i can tell, she gives the signals but won't play ball. I'm taking her out next week for a meal and cinema, so might ask her out then. Ideas?
Btw, I remember what i did last year with my ex, she cooked me dinner, only i ended up cooking it. Was quite sweet since we never really got to stay in together.

nice work, the hardest part is over so now the period of heightened happiness ensues woo :D I wish everyone was as happy as you too, not everyone had the best valentines day and from what a few of my friends went through I can see that some people win on Valentines day and some people lose. The hardest initial part sure. But we are "separated by a great distance" (try California and Connecticut). But thank you for your warm wishes. I am very happy. I am excited for the things to come, but I am very content. He's trying to save the world, and I am a patient girl. I have faith that it will all work out in the end.
