A friend of Mine linked me to this site the other day. It is a very interesting program that is sort of a world simulator. Not really a MMORPG, but it sort of feels like one It is sort of like The Matrix, I guess, sans the evil machines using you as a battery. You do create a character, like an RPG, but there are no quests to go on or anything like that. People can start to accrue L Dollars, which can actually be converted into real money at a later date if you like. People run businesses, hold events, chat, and many other activities in a 3d world. You can even go to the movies and buy virtual popcorn, and the program then streams the DVD movie to your comp to watch, as well as about six billion other things to do. I am a total newbie and don't know much about it, except that is seems pretty interesting.

I have an account on the world and will be tinkering around with the features etc for the next couple of weeks. Though tI would tell the other MoFos about it.

Second Life (http://secondlife.com/)

Oh, almost forgot to mention. The install and the membership are free.

I have an account and my dude is named Tyrion Callisto

Maybe see some MoFos around in the matrix...

Blimey. Looks like those Sci-Fi cyberworld dreams are becoming a reality eh? Snow Crash, only without the mind-manipulating 'talking in tongues'. (That comes later ;))

Still...funny old world... 'Cats' charging around on snowmobiles wearing nothing but their fur and some imaginary jewellery... denigrators releasing massive self-multiplying 'viruses'... fund-raisers that genuinely generate cash for the Red Cross's Katrina efforts... business dealings, enterprises and bizarre initiatives (you could almost imagine Yods running his own baseball team in there - and making a profit ;))... 'movies' being made, and watched... people meeting up in self-styled enclaves and on designer mountain tops...

I can almost imagine what the MoFo island would be like in such a place. How odd ;)

I have looked into another world, and seen that the days of 2D animal avatars (http://www.mycathatesyou.com/images/cats/2005/10/salome.jpg) are numbered ;)

Yeah, the whole idea of having another life to manage makes me wary n'all. That and the thought of trolls being able to move mountains as well ;)

Still, i might dip in and have a look. Altho i'm happy for Sedai to be the exploring-astronaut for now. If he never comes back we'll know he's been batteryfied. (Which is OK, coz then we could mount a MoFo rescue raid ;))

I have yet to explore deep enough to rish any sort of addiction to set in, and yes, I thought of how Yoda could get involved and set up some sort of business. :)

Seems like a place for people like him. I am just wandering around marvelling at how well i actually matched myself with my avatar. I had a cup of coffee with a friend from AZ and he said it was creepy how much my Av looked like me. More reports later...

I've tried to register three times now, and I'm not receiving the verification text message on my phone. The only other option is giving them my credit card information, which I'm reluctant to do. I want to play. :(

Yeah, unfortuantely, a CC number is required for ID purposes only. I used my debit card, and they are a reputable enough company, so I am not too worried about it.

So far, it is very interesting, but has a steep curve to really figure out what is going on.

As for playing it, it really is sort of a simulated world, and to play anything, you need to find another user created game inside the world to get into. This could be anything from chess, to keno, to a MMORPG, all created by users in the world. It's quite daunting so far. I have flown about quite a bit, and I have seen a ton of interesting places and things, but I don't know what any of it means. I feel like I am in a William Gibson book...

As for the vid card, I am alwasy on top of that stuff, as I game a ton, and have a pretty new Nvida Rig running in both my machines.

Have fun!!

If you say it's safe, then I'll give it a try in the next day or so. Still, it's scary that you don't know who's looking at your card, and that you could be taken advantage of. Big Brother says...that would be doubleplus ungood.

Yep, if they're minimum is an 8500, the x series is several generations past that. Shouldn't have any problems.

As for the game itself, I haven't played it but I've read tons of stories about very inventive things that happen in game. Sounds pretty cool.

I don't know a thing about them. I'll have to go home and see what I have, because I don't even know that. I had the info about Second World because they emailed to ask why I haven't signed in, yet. I didn't know how to say "because I can't download the software to my work computer" without sounding like a complete slacker, so I just passed on the pertinent info. :D

If you have text messaging enabled on your cell phone (assuming you have a cell phone, that is), you don't have to put down any CC information to get verified.

Unless your phone just inexplicably refuses to accept incoming text messages like mine does...

It's free, your card will never be charged. It is for ID verification only. :)

I will also add this. It is much, much safer to use your credit card online than it is in a store. Most stores still use shabby 64 bit encryption, while pretty much everything online is now 128 bit. No other person ever touches your card, like a clerk would in a store, so there is no chance of someone copying down your number for later use (which happens quite a bit in stores). As long as the business is a verified entity, there is absolutely nothing to worry about, at all.

Now, as stated before, if you have a virus on your computer that logs your key entries, there is a danger of someone getting onto your computer directly (not through Second Life or any other verified vendor), through your network, and snagging not only the number, but your ATM pins, or any other online banking that you have done where you enter passwords/card info. That is certainly a danger, but, just keep your machine clean.

Also, A debit card is totally fine to use, and your credit line is never in danger even from the loggers, just your checking account. If you run your Checking as thin as I do, there is little to no danger... ;)

I got on for a few minutes and did some more exploring yesterday. Crazy place, the Second World...

Sorry, I should have explained a little better… I don't have a credit or debit card… :D ...have never liked credit cards (don't faint ;) ) and due to the fact an ex-someone else had access to my account, I cancelled my debit soon after Katrina… and just haven't gotten around to re-ordering another one… but I might try the text thing when I have a few minutes… :)

Not having a credit card is quite liberating. A few months ago I paid off and cut up both of mine for good. :)

Unfortunately this means that I can't register for Second Life as the text message thing doesn't seem to work for this area - the drop down is blank.

It does sound like an updated version of Cybertown though, and I know that place very well. ;)

Some kinda weird glitch hit me last night. While I was playing, the game started to just drag my character in one direction - through walls and everything - and I couldn't walk or fly away at all. I had to quit the game.

There are some other weird glitches, too. Earlier that day, my character's torso would flip every five minutes or so, making it look like his head was stuck up his rear end. Bizarre.

Really? Weird, I haven't had anything like that happen to me yet. Occasionally the thing bogs down on me, but clears up after a few seconds. That only occurs when I head into a really dense area with lots of stuff going on around me.

That movie theater area was pretty cool...

You can, but apparently only on property which the owner has allowed damage.

Yeah, I did that. The camp value of the chairs can be pumped by the multipliers you get from playing the games (and I suck at them). I found a place where they had $25/10min chairs, but it lied to me, and I got nothing.

Very odd, at that. I enjoyed having a virtual cocktail with Golgot yesterday. I then dumped about 400L (maybe 500) into a slot machine, hit for 150 6 times, and then pumped some of that into the chair (spending a total of about 700 I think). By the end of that, My chair was at 28$ per 10 minutes. My dude is still sitting in the chair, with MouseMove running, and has accrued about 1200L so far. I had to type a word in three times as they had frozen my chair after three hours each time.

So, Before 24 I cranked the chair up and then went to make food and watch 24. At about 11pm I had to type a phrase in to keep the chair going, then I went to bed. At some point in the night it froze me again, and as soon as I got up for work, I typed another phrase in to keep it going. I will walk home at lunch to eat and peep my dude, type in the phrase, and after work I shoud have about 2k or so. Seems a decent way to accrue L Dollars, and the slots seemed to like me yesterday.

Now, if I hadn't hit as much as I did, the profit margin would have been much lower than 1400L I would think. Once I accrue some capital, I will try to find a better way to get cash flow going...

I sort of like just wandering around the world while I am actually on my comp, so I doubt I will make much money during those times... ;)

One more thing...blast that Tringo!! I came in second twice yesterday, but still lost by about 60 points, Seems there are Tringo pros lurking about...

Golgot
01-31-06, 11:22 AM
Good seeing you in there mate :). It was most odd to have a chat while flying about the place. Very Matrix-like, as you've said.

How did you get 400L to spend in the first place? Maybe i'll start opening accounts with all the different banks to see if i get a sweetner each time? ;). Or start sitting in at some of the pay-you-as-you-watch cinema events mebe.

Mind you, the most fun, aside from Tringo, seems to be in just exploring (i found a complementary Clockwork Orange 'get up' last night). The only thing i'd want the cash for is modding my av - and cobbling together a garish blue voodoo-goat outfit ;)

Re: The Avs

Hit the website, as they have all the Avatar tools there for free. Many free textures etc. They also have the photoshop templates for custom clothing if you want. If poker and that stuff are you thing, there are casinos to play at as well...

As for how I got my first money, I just don't know. I was wandering around, and i had 250 on me, I went to some area where there were some trees with money on them, people had donated to the tress I guess, and when i clicked on them, I all of a sudden had 1350L. Couldn;t get it to work again, and i didn't Landmark the area :(

Try this, try to find my friend Ja Sion, who is on right now, tell him you know Tyrion, and ask him to show you the money trees. I think he took me there. Jason is an old high school friend of mine from the 80s, and a cool guy.

The cool thing, OG, is that it's not possible for someone under 18 to get an account (or very difficult), so the user base is:

- Mature
- Nice
- Extremely Helpful

The thing is, with no set goals or readily apparent taskes, the program seems to attract people who are into the community aspect and the freedom to build anything they want using the supplied developer tools. I mean really, I was just so shocked when after a few days of tinkering around in-world, I had not seen even ONE idiot punk or spammer or anything like that. I was like "Hey, wait a minute...where are all the 133t speak morons and 9 year olds that usually ruin my online experiences?"

All the random people I have spoken to or talked to have been extremely helpful, courteous, and kind. I have really been having a blast (minus the shark attack) in this world...

Also, because progress in the world is driven by social interaction and creativity, it tends to attract a much different crowd than your usual hack and slash...

An interesting article about SL from a review site. The guy pretty much distills what it is all about, and mentions some cool things in the article. For instance, one user has written evolution algorithms for some of the fish in the world, and they slowly develop new evolutionary traits over time...

Yeah, this is it. To really rez in and get the best out of it some coding-style skills are in order - but playing with other people's creations is still cool for now :) (Altho i now have some weapons that could get me suspended apparently ;))

Like the way the article described it as a 'mass hallucination' you just have to engage with ;)

I'm taken with the idea of setting up a little Golgot-corner, but I'm wondering whether promoting 'real life' stuff is permitted? Like, when i finally polish off the anti-factory-farming filmette i'm working on, whether i could set up a little cow-festooned 'cinema' or talking shop (the whole idea of the film is to draw attention to a bunch of facts/articles etc). Hmm. All very theoretical... ... oh, and make some Ls ;)

-Best Swimsuit
-PLAYPEN SLINGO REAL NAUGHTY

(I have no idea what Slingo is. Ever since i felated that 'rock' i've started being extra careful round this place ;))

I keep imagining what a 3D MoFo would be like tho. I could see it working with the forums being like giant floating icons (popcorn etc), and everyone who was viewing each one would just be floating around it. Could be pretty natty - with all the chat and screenings that'd be possible too. And Holden would get to shoot people. It'd be perfect ;).

Yeah, i'm caught between intrigue on one hand and a type of impending-impatience on the other. Intrigue's still winning, but i think once the novelty wears off i'll need to have some real-life thread-through going on to make it stay appealing. Something like a MoFo or whatever.

I'm not sure how set up it is for that kind of larger scale communication. At least if i knew how to mod stuff i could 'interact' with the place in that way (by producing bizarre physical messages - like cows that cough coz they need their antibiotics ;)). If i don't find a community that catches my eye i think my jaunts are going to start tailing off for sure.

Still, lotta potential out there :)

I think some folks will need to get with the constructing and designing to have fun for a long time. I enjoy the social aspect of it, and the wandering around. I also seem to like the gambling games and accruing L Dollars.

The other day, I flew WAY up as far as I could go, and there was a construct that someone was working on just floating way the hell up there. I flew around it until I found a small entryway to the large odd shaped structure. When I got inside, someone had recreated an entire level of the video game System Shock II. Being one of my favorite games of all time, I decided to explore more. They had everything running like the game, with sounds, effects and clickable action areas all around the place. Sitting in the middle of the room was a humanoid robot, that was sort of flopped over rag doll style, just staring off into space, a forgotten project left in the sky....

They've had a power failure so the site's down for a while. (Which is probably good, coz it means i can get the work done i 've been putting off for a while ;)). Bit annoying tho coz i'm away tomorrow til sunday night.

More drumming should def be on the cards :) - and we should keep an eye out for other musical items we can chuck about to add to the vibe ;). I know i've got a set of instruments, but i don't know if they can be played. Something we can just lob into the mix (that's a bit better than those parping party popper things) would be class tho.

Good to meet your mate J last night :) (And seeing you zipping about in your miniature guises ;))

I used to play this and I had a good deal of fun with it (before I got bored and left).

The key (I believe) is to not start off so quickly, take your time and explore (and don't fly around nude). You can't learn to perfectly manipulate the editor as well as the scripting code in the first few weeks like I had planned for myself. It takes time.

I recently shutoff my account, but I had some good times. The best thing to do is to go slow and participate in quizzshows.

I just had to share this.

Ever since I found out that you could fly (which is when I started playing the game), I wanted a Superman costume for my character. But since then, I've been searching this game up and down, and no dice.

Well, instead of waiting for the off-chance that someone might eventually make and sell one, I decided to make my own. So here it is:

No, it's actually him. The details are spot-on. You can see his compass (the one that doesn't point North) hanging off his belt. He even comes with a pistol that fires, and MANY different .wav quotes that you can play in-game.

CURRENT MOFO PLAYER LIST (for those who'd like to easily find who as what).
Yes, I'm on the list.

Golgot - Dzjeli Boomslang
Sleezy - Remington Fish
thmilin - Noire Saarinen
Sedai - Tyrion Callisto

SEDAI! I IM'd you inworld and you didn't answer. brat. so i'll try one by one to identify each of you inworld and add you.

onward to commentary ...

- teens can play the game. they're discussed in the documentation, and also when you sign up - they can use their parents CC info, and parents can control the content they're allowed to see. also as you're flying through the game you'll discover PG and M rated areas. PG areas are for innocents and family-wise folk. M (more prevalent) is for everybody flying naked and such. ;)

- someone said they saw a sim in the sky when they flew up high. ironically, I don't think you're supposed to be able to fly that high, so you may have found a helpful glitch, or the game update this week changed the rules (it's been noted in SL that skyboxes can be made out of flying range, and you can teleport there if you have the landmark, but you can't fly there). anyway, what you saw was a "skybox." skyboxes are deliberately made to avoid prying eyes - the rule in SL is to afford them their privacy, since the only real privacy is via an island, which costs beaucoup $$, and can still get hacked into.

- slingo = SL bingo, I believe. I don't think it's kinky. But i'm not sure, i haven't played it.

- Sleezy! that superman costume! if you are indeed the only wearer, you danced the chicken dance for me in Transylvania and we didn't know each other! I had been in a club, seen a Batman dancing, and came to Transylvania and saw Superman and told him to chickendance for me and he did. Was that you? or mebbe a clone ...

- SLEEZY! that captain jack costume is AWESOME! here's me ...

below are two images of me ... i've had many incarnations of me, all deliberately nothing like what i look like. :) the white hair was a bad@ss storm, but so much cooler. especially cooler than halle berry. the latest incarnation is my Vampire Hunter ... red eyes!

Nay. Although I own both Superman and Batman costumes (both made by me), you did not meet yours truly. A doppleganger, perhaps? If you see him again, scribble down the name. I know there are Superman and Batman costumes to buy in-game, so he might have been sporting those.

yo! i might peek on tonight (just got back from clubbin) but def tomorrow. i'm west coast time by the way, it's 2:30 am where i am.

and yes, i agree, CHRIS SHOULD BUY A $10/MO PLOT OF SECOND LIFE AND BUILD A MOFO MANSION. or mofo theater. or mofo ... whatever. but yes, the game is very much about communities.

by the way, i hang out in Transylvania a lot. yes, there's vamps, but the crowd is very chill and not sex oriented (so you won't find penii out pumping the air when you teleport in). so yes, it's very much about groups forming.

we can actually form a group, you know, for mofo, so we can send messages to the whole lot of us in-game. but i'm not sure if you have to have a premium account or not. haven't looked it up.

Sedai

We can form a group with 3 or more people no matter what, so we can go ahead and do that...

I am going to wait a few months before considering getting any land etc.. I want to wait until 2.0 comes out and see what is up with that.

Also, I got another peroson to join is is a former MoFo (Soulsolid) but doesn't post on the boards here anymore. In game his name is Trace Takishi. Also, my friend Jason who introduced me to all this is in our little SL crew as well, his avatar is Ja Sion. All cool people, and as Thimiln said, this thig is mainly driven by community, so the more the better.

As for the teens, from what I read on the SL website, they are not supposed to play the game on the main grid. There is a separate grid called "Teen SL" that they are allowed to play on. I have yet to run into even one kid so far, and I have asked man,y many people how old they are. Of course, they could be lying. ;)

See you on the grid....

Blast! I keep forgetting to take a screen shot of my avatar. Regardless, he looks a hell of a lot like the Egyptian god Anubis...

Just found a cool article about the film production crews/companies that are residing/forming in Second Life. Directors and Photographers are talking about how they can test different shots that include difficult set-ups or crane moves quickly and easily in this virtual world.

Film Article (http://www.machinima.com/article.php?article=432)

Some studios have opened up and other folks can rent them out by the day/week as well as custom built sets etc. Now, with the custom avatar animator "Poser" available to use with SL, the possibilities for in-world virtual film projects have just expanded big time.

A few films have already been completed, with more in the works. This is something I am going to play around with quite a bit in the future. For now, I am hanging about in the sandboxes practicing with the 3d modelling tools. Sleezy seems to have a knack for custom clothing and skin creation, and Soulsolid (aka Trace Takashi) is a scripting expert.

My friend Ja has been on the longest and knows a ton about the SL world and platform itself. Golgot finds all the WEIRD stuff for us. :)

It appears we are starting to get a decent group of people with varied skill sets going in-world, and in a bit we can perhaps get some collaberative projects going.

Thimiln - We gotta hook up in world! We still haven't had a chance to meet and get you together with our kooky group. We have enough to get a clan/group going at this point, so let's do it!

Yes, bruh. There is no reason why we can't get down with some collabo in SL; something worthwhile and entertaining as well. PA has a solid concept, and so does Hiro Pendragon with his asiatic hustle. I think a MoFo group should exist in SL that our community here can capitalize on.

Welcome back Souldsolid AKA Truth!

Actually, it was the System Shock thing that convinced me. Over the past few years I've been reading randomly about the crazy stuff that goes on in SL, but that just sounded toooo nuts. I want to see those kind of things. I want to make those kind of things.

Plus, I'm very interested in writing a research paper on people who do those kinds of projects in SL. It's either that or re-writing my depressing screenplay about love (http://www.basement-films.net/blog.php?entryid=68) in actual prose (which I would love to do), but I want to write something new and more interesting.

But yah, making ingame machinma is very inticing...

i am so sorry guys, i've got one week before 1) i have to go back to work after being out for months on disability and 2) a weekend trip to vegas. thus, i've been cramming in things like car servicing, furniture replacement, spring cleaning, goodwill donation, valentine's day hangouts, a friend having a nervous breakdown, the beginning of a new novella, and the completion of a novel, into my final week.

needless to say, by the time I sit down in front of the computer and deal with mofo, email, myspace, stumbleupon, astrology forecasts, gmail, chat, etc. and look at the SL icon on my desktop, I get abominably tired and skulk off to bed. :(

but i DO want to play and WILL be on this week, I swear, i just dunno when. do you know when, generally, you guys are on? and tell me what your timezone is so I can try to line it up with you.

re: skinning - see, i'm the kind that likes the dirty work done for me. i can't possibly sit here in adobe photoshop and be expected to create clothes. it's too hard. if they created in game tools that were you know, amazingly advanced, then we can deal. and if they had tools that worked more like the Sims 2 version of house building, I can deal. but i got freaked out dealing with the geometry, and the more complex things get the less I enjoy it, and the more my computer slows down - those girls with shiny jewelry really eat up my bandwidth, dammit!

but hey, maybe in the future things will get even better, eh. in the meantime, if any of you would like to take it upon yourselves to build me the clothes and body of a goddess, be my guest. though i take it you don't like doing girly stuff, huh?

ehehehe.

Oh, I see. (When you said "real," I assumed you meant the film version.) Well, the best way to start would be to buy a high end, quality female skin. Some of them I've seen look about as real as a 3D character model can get. You can still mess with shape features, obviously (meaning you can get many different looks out of the same skin). The clothes and hair would just be accessories: hell, you could just use the ones from the avatar Golgot posted for now. I'll look into possibly making something a little more realistic.

As for me, I'd just about kill someone for an avatar of Adi Granov's Iron Man (http://www.zeuscomics.com/images/covers/iron-man-2.jpg). If I knew prims and textures enough, I'd make it myself. In time, perhaps...

As for where we would base ourselves out of, we could go all Luskwood-ish and try to get back to nature in the virtual world, or on the flip side, a place like Nexus Prime is cyberpunk'd to the max...

Hey OG, i've looked into the land thing a bit...

http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Land+FAQ

If someone wants to go Premium ($9.95 a month) they get 512 square metres to play with, which seems pretty hefty. Only 117 Prims (building blocks) allowed tho, but that should be enough to get a cinema and some other stuff going at least :)

Talking of Prims, 42/Bush has found out where they get 'manufactured'. There's an oil rig out on a border which churns 'em out ;) (Just for fun like :) - Hopefully there won't be any Prim-wars at a later date ;))

Ah well, must go and try and slide down a mountain i've found...

*and re-submerge*

Awesome. I would be pumped to take care of the media side of the the theater, if other people could handle the construction etc.

We could hold festival events of classics and we could even dip into some modern stuff - I've seen several recent films being played randomly throughout SL, but haven't heard any copyright issues (obviously people haven't paid for a licensing fee, but I don't think anyone is going to be prosecuted anytime soon). We can stay strictly in the public domain if we wanted to.

I also have some fairly...idealistic...intentions as well, but like I told Yods in the PM, I'll hold off on those until we get the basics going...

As for the premium, I won't volunteer myself to start it up just yet - not only am not very well versed in how all that stuff works, I am still a poor college student. :-\

Of course, I am down with this as well. I have been tinkering with the prims and the 3d engine somewhat, to the point that I feel I can make at least rudimentary structures, so I am willing to be one of the builders.

The MoFo group is in full force, and we had a little virtual party the other night at the Cactus Chillout Lounge. My friend and I mixed up some drinks at my apartment and then jumped on my computers for the evening. We met the other MoFos at the lounge, and the bizzare event started. A couple of us were dancing about with drinks in hand, while Golg did the Riverdance, OG lurked about in his Freddy avatar, and Sleezy relaxed on the sofa. A friend of mine from Arizona jooined the group and the fun, as well, even though he isn't on MoFo (yet;)).The owner of the club gave out some freebies and was very courteous.

It was quite fun, I must say. I only wish the IMs would have properly notified Bushido when I sent the invite out...

Anyway, cool stuff, and I am glad a few more folks have gotten involved, as we have a good little group in-world now.

When will i see a little green jedi master imn world? Ther eis, of course, plenty of Star Wars avatars...

Oh also... I have about 8400L, and am willing to put some of that towards various constructs that would add to the area. Stuff seems pretty reasonable as far as the modular buildings go, and then there would have to be special MoFo only original constructs as well, but they may look a little...primative at first until I get my skills in shape...

That is EXACTLY what we needed for the MoFo project. Little mini warbots with lasers.

Project complete. ;)

I had an IM from a little green jedi master this morning when I woke up! Yoda, I was not ignoring you, I was just asleep, and Ty camps while I sleep. :)

I did hit a Rave in-world last night, late. I had just stopped by to see what was going on in the SIM (called PLUR, of curse), and the DJ was dropping some pretty tite trance/psytrance tracks. I had to stick around for a few...

So..

I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised with how smoothly the program runs. I'd have expected a much longer delay between messages and other various interactions. I still run into buildings if I'm flying around, though, because they don't materialize all that quickly, but the whole thing is still very impressive.

I'll have to fool around a bit today with a few more of the options. Sounds like it's somewhat difficult to make clothes/build things, but I'm confident we'll be able to pull this off.

I'll probably be looking for some of you later today. :)

In the meantime, I upgraded to Premium Membership and started looking at some pieces of land. Dunno if I've got the $L to buy much yet, but I suppose I'll get there at some point. Frankly, it's rather overwhelming; do any of you have any specific plots or areas in mind?

I've begun reading up on LSL (Linden Scripting Language) a bit; it's a great deal like Java, which I have some mild experience with, so once I get the hang of the proprietary functions and such I should be able to write a few in-game programs, hopefully to help with the theater concept.

Speaking of which I found a display dedicated to Black History today that had a few benches in front of a couple screens playing a film about Malcolm X. So it can definitely be done, and has been, to some degree. Still, I think we can out-do a lot of 'em if we really throw ourselves into it.

DAMNIT! I've had to repost this response a couple of times now (remembers to paste to clipboard next time). Whats the premium plan you got down with Yoda? Sedai is on point regarding the group land hustle and MoFo should pursue that route. We need to meet on the grid and have a sit down with everyone who wants to solidify MoFos presence on the grid. We can definitely hold it down against Hollywood and some of the other spots I've hit.

..goes back to parsing the LSL wiki. I'm going to be an LSL hustler forreal. Hack the planet, bruh. Hack the planet. BTW, i've got some side projects in SL on a personal nature that i'd want a builder to help on. Thats for later though. MoFo can definitely hold it down on SL.

Sounds like it's somewhat difficult to make clothes/build things, but I'm confident we'll be able to pull this off.

Making clothes isn't difficult if you know your way around Photoshop (and I'm only have moderate experience with the program). It's the prim work that's baffling me. There are some extremely well-made three-dimensional accessories in the game (hair, swords, shields, hats), and I'm really trying to figure out how they're made.

Building is a little easier when you're using basic geometric shapes, which the game gives you pretty solid, immediate control over. You can manipulate size, rotation, position - so you just create a square, flatten it, stretch it, and you've got a door. Within each object is a texture feature, and creating textures is getting easier and easier for me.

Or you can just go out and buy doors, windows, walls, seats, and everything else you need (which might be the best way to go). Oh, and we're going to need "lounge" pose balls. :yup:

Sounds good. I'll try to look for you later today.

You can buy Lindens with real cash: it goes straight through Paypal. I know it sounds stupid to trade in real money for play money, but the exchange rate is insane. You get $2000L for seven bucks and some change. For me, that's a worthwhile expense, and it beats having to sit in money chairs for hours on end.

Frankly, it's rather overwhelming; do any of you have any specific plots or areas in mind?

Islands are f---ing expensive, I think, but that would be my pick. ;) (I mean, an island...all to ourselves!)

And there are plenty of excellent in-game examples of theaters that you can follow. Most I've seen use in-game remote controls that, when clicked, bring up a basic menu with options like "Play," "Stop," "Next," "Back," etc. Just remember, the streaming in-game video streams for everyone in the area. That's why you see posters in all the theaters stating that if someone is watching a film when you walk in, DON'T touch the remote.[/QUOTE]

You can manipulate who gets to control things, and who doesn't. So, if the group got larger, we'd probably want to hold viewing events, and have moderators to...well, moderate. Only the moderators could control the remote, for example. (In other SL places, these people are called "hosts" or "commissioners").

But for right now, I'd say we're all courteous enough to keep hands off remotes when a film is playing.

Bushido wants to get in on the security, apparently. That becomes helpful when you want to have group-only events, or when some jerkoff (a rarity, actually) comes strolling in and causing trouble. Most places have an owner control that boots troublemakers out on command.

Theres some LSL black ice that might work for us. If not, I can see about hackin' something so that we get a secured event the way we'd like. I've spent quite some time today during lunch looking into LSL. It should be something I can get down with. Small projects, then working up to a bigger venue.

An island would be a rediculous investment, at this point at least. I say we just find a chunk that isn't heavily populated with malls and build it up from there...

As for the movie playing, I've used the remotes at several locations and they're certainly interesting, but they aren't the only way. Golg and I went to a Shaun of the Dead screening the other night. I got there around an hour into the movie and it was already playing when I arrived. So we can have a predefined programming schedule with no need for remotes (in addition to using remotes)...

Then again, I'm already planning in-world movie festivals at the MovieForums.com Cineplex!

Also, I actually grabbed a copy of a giant flat screen. Haven't tested it out yet, but it is there...

Cool, to see you're already taking a look at the coding, Chris. If we need an help, I introduced a friend of mine to SL over the weekend and in a total span of about 4 or 5 hours he had already created a demon ball with a giant eye and tiny horns that obeys his commands. He can tell it to follow him, sit, and even ram anyone he tells it to. He has also already grafted himself a pair of wings... But he is about to graduate with a degree in programming from Virginia Tech and said that after all the stuff he has had to do for school, ingame scripting is a complete breeze.

dude, we don't need an island. plus, the harder to find you are, the less likely you are to get RECRUITS.

$$ - you get like, L$400 to the real dollar, i believe, indeed a very insane amount. Thus why exchanges make their money - you make bukku profit.

i envision a magnificent 'verse of ours with:

- multiple viewing rooms, ie a multiplex (thus you share a space with others watching a specific film adn others who don't want to see that film aren't in the same space with you.
- hosted events, games, prizes (raffles, movie quizzes, win a makeover in the likeness of your favorite star)
- meet movie stars (we dress up like movie stars and have them walking through the crowd, mingling)
- we could even throw our own golden globes/oscars. Ie, MoFo Globes! members do the voting for the actors/actresses, screenplays, etc. of the year
- we'd work with the SL film makin community, perhaps airing their films in the theaters, or setting aside a particular screen for SL films
- again, an award ceremony for members for SL Films (thus, SL film makers should become members, as should any actors/actresses in those films ...)

that also ties in other ideas ... do we want to purely represent MoFo in SL, or to build a new world, an ideal dream world, that would tie in film and film lovers? do we go beyond "film appreciation (ie, hang around, watch movies, chitchat, hold a couple events)" into "film world" (build relationships with other film communities in SL, coordinate our events with theirs, encourage members who not only like film but participate in the industry to join, etc.)

and oh my god, you've got yoda in there! too hilarious. seriously, this thread gets long and longer, and people have to keep going through all the pages to find everyone's SL name. anyway we could have a permanent sticky top-box that's updatable with everyone's SL/mofo name?

I only mentioned buying an island because you'd never have to worry about encroachment. Even if you find a chunk of land that isn't populated, it won't stay that way forever. But honestly, I don't care where our place is, or who our neighbors are (so long as it isn't closed to a crowded venue, because we'd get bogged down and laggy because of it).

dude, we don't need an island. plus, the harder to find you are, the less likely you are to get RECRUITS

Excellent point. The majority of exposure will come from people wandering in.

There is an "Events" tab under the FIND option, and you can post your events there regularly (as well as on the SL online forums). That's one method of alternate advertising.

Another method is giving us all titles (example: "Mofo Cineplex") to wear when we're out and about, so that others might see. You can also list the Mofo venue in your profile under "Picks." People generally check your profile if they don't know you, and they'll be able to see your hang-outs. And once we get regulars, we can invite them into the Mofo Club as VIP, and they can go out and advertise us as well. (Your group memberships appear in your profile.)

I really like the ideas so far. We should start small, probably: get a nice place going with a theater, couches, chairs, maybe a bar. I'll try to run down some examples of nice places that people have created in-game.

For a good example of a theater, search for and check out the Sci-Fi Geeks Museum.

Cool ideas all!

Lat night I chatted with Yoda in-world for a while at the BR inspired Devil's Moon (thanks Rem), and we had a bit of fun, then it was off to the Library of Prims for some more model action. This time I constructed a rocket, and concentrated on getting the prims to align and attach seamlessly, then I wrapped a bunch of metal textures around it using a cool metal pack I was given at some point.

It's clear that a vast texture library is going to be key, as above average textures seem to make or break the object. I mean, I put the rocket together as wood blocks, and the thing looked like garbage. I added some metal textures that fit the build and the quality level went from terrible to halfway decent just like that. ;)

The library is fairly large, with quite a few levels and many lessons to take. I have done all the basic lessons during another session, and last night I re-read them all and built the rocket. Next, I will head up to floor two to start learning about skewing and top sizing, and other intermediate object oriented activities. It's fun!

I got pulled away by the girlfriend (this happens a lot) to watch The Maltese Falcon after a while, so I didn;t get to tinker as much as I wanted to last night, but hopefully, I can get another session in tonight, and perhaps a nice long session on one of the weekend days.

Thimiln - Where are you!? We want to meet up and hang out in world!

Oh, I went back to the cactus lunge briefly and CJ (the owner) was there, so I pumped him for a little information on how he set his place up, the objects and actions he had coded into the club, and we also just shot the breeze a bit. He is a house DJ in the UK and runs his little virtual club on the side. He will hold some events in the near future, and I am going to make it a point toi hit some of these helpful people's events. It will be cool to help them out, fun to hit the events, and down the line, they may be of some help when we get the complex going.

Anyway, one thing I have noticed, is that SL can be very distracting, and I think we may need to set down some sort of time for the in-world meet that Bushido was talking about. I find I can get 2 or three people together to chat no problem, but invariably some of us are busy/campin/gaming etc at any given time. Good times for me would be as stated before, any weeknight from 5-7pm EST, or after 10PM on said weeknights. The early afternoons on the weekend seem to hold some free time for me as well, so that would do as well.

And there is more...

The group - I started the group sort of arbitrarily, chose a random name, titles, and just sort of made all the MoFos officers in the group. This wasn't the right way to go about things, apparently. So, what to do? Should we disband and restart the group with clear officers set out? From what I read, any group needs a couple of motivated leaders to give the group some direction and keep things happening. The whole "everyone is equal" thing seems to tank a group pretty quickly, from what I hear. It sounds good on paper, but you end up with a buch of people standing around insisting their way is best, and nothing ever gets done.

I think we need a brainstorming question for the group!

OG-
02-22-06, 12:21 PM
I think titles are pretty arbitrary - hell, Bush is called a president (sorry, it couldn't be passed up). I think any inaction to have already launched our project isn't due to a lack of communication/understanding of who holds what 'office', but because we're all (for the most part) kind of still figuring this stuff out.

I'm all for an ingame meet. Unless it is past 12am or a Tuesday/Thursday between 8am-6pm, I'm probably going to be at least logged into SL. I may not be doing anything, but shoot me an IM in world or on AIM and I'm 95% most likely to come out of away.

Ok, so accoding to this chat log, it appears the Neualtenburg communists have somehow constructed The Death Star. (http://www.dragonscoveherald.com/blog/index.php?p=819)

Apparently they have it's turbo laser pointed at various sims throughout the day, and could at any point fire down and smoke a bunch of sims, if they so chose. Apparently, there is a special sim, run by Lindens, that has been set up for this group. the reporter was allowed on the 100+ room space station, which sits at the 36,000,000 meter mark in orbit over both the main and the teen SL grid.

An exerpt from the interview/article:

" You: It’s the biggest thing I’ve seen in SL! I can’t even zoom out far enough.
UZ: Welcome to the JEFF STAR, Neal. Named after Jeff Linden, who announced the event calendar changes. It’s a space-station but an actual sim. The only sim on the grid that’s hosted on a class 5 server. The very latest Dual Opteron machine.
UZ: Bring up the map, Neal.
You: Ok
You: Holy ****
UZ: See the sim we’re in?
You: It’s moving!
You: On the map!
UZ: We are orbiting the other sims. Even the teen grid.
You: Heh heh. How is that even possible!?
UZ: We are invisible to everyone else on the map though. The station itself is armed with turbolaser weapons and a tractor-beam. Not all the sims are in range at the same time but within a complete orbit, everyone is at some point. The weapon is basically an eraser. It’s connected to the asset server.
You: Haha. You’ve gotta be bull****ting me there http://www.dragonscoveherald.com/blog/wp-images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
UZ: The station is also part of our Strategic Defense Initiative, or the ‘Star Wars’ program. Second Life’s only comprehensive missile defense system. We can intercept Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles using ‘lasers’.
UZ: If some sims decide not to come on board with us, under our protection, that’s fine of course.
UZ: But we can’t guarantee their safety if something bad should happen…
You: I get it
UZ: Feel free to look around
UZ: You’re the only non-member to have been invited.
You: Why me?
You: Heh heh. Isn’t that the Neualtenburger logo on the wall?
UZ: Yes.
You: And the doors?
UZ: This space station is our home, but it is also a weapon. It is the sim that will unite all the local governments under a single global government. A New Order.
You: Wait a minute. You’ve got support from the Lindens!? That’s how you got this build height and managed to get this freaky-ass moving sim! http://www.dragonscoveherald.com/blog/wp-images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
UZ: The distinction between Lindens, the FIC and Neualtenburg residents isn’t really a useful one. A lot of us are all three. We prefer to just think of it as a big Second Life family. But like any family, there are rules.
You: I just still can’t believe how big this station is.
UZ: I’ll invite you into the group for the sim.
UZ: You have to wear the group title at all times.
UZ: Here’s a uniform too. Go have a look around.
You: OK. Will do. Thank you.
UZ: You’ll have to remove your hair attachment if you don’t want it to stick out the Imperial Officer cap.
You: Wait, there’s gotta be at least 100 rooms here."

Fact or Fiction?

Yeah, i've been scouting out as many as poss. I wish you could copy them from objects tho. Can't seem to find any decent 'leather' effects etc amongst the freebies. (And i need some red leather trim to finish off the silly vehicle i made last night ;))

We can probably knock out some of our own textures on Photoshop/Gimp too if need be. (I recommend Gimp for pic-manipulation stuff btw - it's GNU - totally free, but powerful to boot :))

Really don't mind about this. Whoever's gonna spend most time on getting and keeping things going deserves and 'admin' style title. I'll happily slum it as a standard MoFo ;). I'm thinking on cutting down for a bit anyway - been neglecting some stuff (including sleep ;)).

And yes thm, get yourself hearty n hale :) - Sleeze'll need you to try out his Aeon apparel ;)

Would your boy be willing to slide me that script so I can review it, break it down, see what type of hustle he used? I finished the first LSL tutorial joint today. I'm not a coder by trade but I think I can grok this kung-FU. It'll take me a bit longer than a hardcore developer. See if he can break me off with the science.

GO SUPERMAN! sleezy, that film character avatar idea is awesome. your first job? the best aeon flux anyone short of peter chung ever made EVER.

I'll look into it, but it'll be helpful if you can give me some ideas about what you're looking for. Many of the resources you'll need (skin, hair, accessories) are already for sale in-game. The costume is custom-work, but that should be "no problem" for me. (I say "no problem" in quotes because they always seem to turn out like I wasn't slaving over them for hours and cursing to high heavens. ;)) The trick is putting it all together, and making it look like everything belongs together.

A good example is the recent Achilles avatar I built:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/Sleezy/Miscellaneous/achilles1.jpg

Yeah, I've done some work. The hair is relatively the same, but I've purchased a high-end skin, and re-sculpted Superman's shape. I've still got the Kingdom Come and Max Fleischer suits (my favorites), but I don't wear them very often anymore. These days, I sport the newer Alex Ross duds:

Had a great time inworld last night. Got home from work, popped out of my camping chair and headed over to the Cactus Wrap. CJ (the owner/DJ) was mixing a live set of house and trance, and quite a few folks were there. I had a couple drinks and chilled out while I checked my email etc.. Then, I headed over to the prim library for some more modeling fun. Golgot joined at the library to start stepping through the learning stations.

I wanted to hang out with some folks, but I also wanted to get some learning done, so it won out last night. Although, another frind of mine that i haven't seen in ages IMed me on the grid last night. He had heard I was in SL and decided to check it out. He was modding his avatar into a vampire when I last left him...

His handle is Trancecast Tweak

Tonight may be a different story.

I am heading out to a friends place until about 11PM EST, but I hope to have the energy to do a late night session after that...

I took some snaps of Tyrion, but have yet to post them. I will try to get that taken care of too!

Cool link Bushido hit me with earlier today. Check out some of the cool stuff people have some up with inworld, and buy them if you want!

Nope, its a custom hairdo/beard/eyebrows/skin tone I got from my man Rockwell at Made Men. But, its what gave me the idea to do my barbershop. My shop will be hot, becuase the cut won't be bound to the skin, it will be something you just wear on your skull (so then I don't have to customize it to anyones skin tone, it just "works"). Bruh, thats one aspect of the metaverse I really dig. I found a spot inworld called "Open Latte Cafe". Met the owners (husband and wife in RL); he's a DJ in the cafe and general entertainer, and she runs the coffeehouse and does live singing performances. Their whole format is tight; I sat in on a DJ set that a guest was doing. Hot. Then they took me upstairs to their 3 story bookstore that just opened which is a close replica to this store i'd been to in Paris. Solid people. Good conversation. Alot of them into the same RL hustles that I am.

Bounced 800m into the stratosphere to my man Amazon's lab to learn about building and manipulating prims. He was the one that turned me onto the link that Sedai posted. He has a lab attached to his house that he does work in now. Building things that he propagates to his vendor machines at various locations in world.

After that I was at BushidoBrown tree dojo when "Kenny Linden" dropped in. Literally. His first response was, "nice stairs". I'm like, WTF, NUCKA DID YOU JUST INVADE MY DOJO??? Apparently he was investigating a lag complaint by the sim creator. He noticed I was on the only green dot on the sim and decided to see what was up. His avatar was completely white, bald, and had a serious GOD GLOW going on that was about half a meter around his body. I could barely see his limbs. He tried to small talk me, but I told him to bounce. I mean, WTF, bruh? Don't drop in uninvited, and if you've got power, don't abuse that ish. Anyways.

Spent some time after OG left to work on some scripting.I was thinking about creating a prim "Pic" to put in my mans back pocket that tells me things like location, time, who is in a 5m perim of me, etc, etc. Going to work on that this weekend. Right now, my pic is just a small prim circle, so I can hack the code. I'll be on from 10or11PMEST-3AMEST (at least) tonight. Get with me if you want to hang at the coffehouse, the dojo, or the bookshop. Be easy.

I couldn't believe it. Even though it wasn't really U2 (just a tribute band with a U2 concert track playing), it was a really awesome experience. The sync was incredible: Bono held the mike up when he was singing, Edge was playing when you heard guitar...

It was so interactive. They had a sound booth, a band room, security guards holding down the stage, and a concession stand and merchandise booth behind the crowd. I was stunned. This is, without a doubt, the most impressive thing I've found about SL. VERY well done.

Sedai, Bushido and I will be posting more, probably.

Yes, but its not something I coded up. My lanlord placed a boombox in my dojo which allows me to get about 71 streams. But, that code is how she is able to do it (or she got a boombox that was coded to do that and placed it in each of the places she rents out).

BTW, I'm currently at The Avalon on the grid and I think each MoFo interested in the group project should check out the site.

A cyberspace oddity. A place to practice procrastination. A cageless human zoo.

Specifically... it's a 3D world where you do what you like. You can use it as a giant 'physical' chatroom, as a place to make cash (by designing useful 3D things that people might like), or as a surreal escapist environment in which you can dress like George Best.

Personally... i think of it as a place where i overheard some knee-high birds complaining that the forest ain't what it used to be.

Scoot around their website (http://secondlife.com/) to get a bit more info. It's a wrong thing. But bizarrely fun :)

Pyro - SL is basically the metaverse, as William Gibson and Neal Stephenson imagined it. As stated above, it is really an application platform, combined with a 3d environment, combined with a chat protocol. Each person that has gone on the grid (the matrix, if you will) seems to be getting something different out of it. Bushido is rocking a sweet home that hangs from a giant tree. He is a big networking guy and a social bug, so it's fits the bill perfectly for his hustles, as he calls them. It is also a great place for us MoFos to relax and talk. Sleezy is an avatar building fiend, and is creating textures in photoshop to wrap around the 3d avatars inworld. He has sold at least two that I know of already. Golgot is the exploration and kooky stuff expert. He always has some sort of starnge device or place to show me, and he looks damn cool! OG shoots people with rocket launchers. :)

Myself, I get into a bit of everything, but lately, I have been concentrating on learning the robust 3d modeling engine inworld. You can construct things right on the grid in the 3d space around you. I also like to hit some of the social spots, do a lot of exploring, and a little gambling here and there...

Tru, tru. I'm also getting involved with coding projects in SL using their scripting language called LSL (Linden Scripting Language). That allows you to manipulate the properties of objects in the world to behave in different ways given a predefined set of circumstances.

Speaking of BushidoBrown treedojo sanctuary, I added some more sitting options in the livingroom by the fireplace. Last night I also discovered the property lines for my "yard" at the base of the tree, about a 50m below the treedojo, so we have have some by the water gatherings, since my yard has the river flowing by into the ocean.

One of my people in SL owns this club called "The Powerplant". Check out the venue. I think we could probably get some sort of indie music hustle goin', using that venue if we wanted (as long as she doesn't tear it down like she's been toying with).

OG, I see Legend on your site listed under your netflix queue. Which version is that? One has a really, really bad score, and the other doesn't... Or, they may have both cuts on the disk....

Netflix has it listed as the Director's Cut. No clue if that is the worse version or not (I've not seen it in any capacity)...

I think I actally understand that. You have school?

I am at school (but not anymore, I'm home now). I should have said: Estoy a la universidad, because that would have designated what kind of school.

Woah, how old are you, Sleezy?

Twenty-two.

I think he said he was 17, but I may be wrong.

I had two Coronas last night, so I better not be 17...

Gracias, igualmente. :D

(Thanks, likewise.)

I won't be on SL for awhile. This week is a busy one, and the weekend won't be a breeze either. I've got more stuff to do in two days than I had to do last week altogether...

There's gonna be a showdown, methinks.

Hey now, I didn't judge you by your groups. I think they're cool, and hey, live and let live. Hell, I'm VIP at a strip club in-game, and I don't care. (I go for the conversation, though. Honest.)

I sat in for awhile in one of the virtual classrooms they have inworld. It was a college-esque set-up, with a wide open seating area and large stage-like teaching area for the instructor. It was a beggining prim class, and I had already covered the material, but I wanted to see what the virtual classes were like. For the most part it was a very interesting and surreal experience. The only issue I had with the class was the pacing. The instructor was typing all the stuff she was teaching on the fly, and it took a fair amount of time for each sentence to appear for the students, as she was trying to squeeze a ton into each sentence. I found myself IMing friends, jumping on MoFo to look at threads etc.

I thought to myself as this was going on, what if the instructor had written all this stuff out in fragments in word beforehand, and just cut and pasted the fragments as she went, using the time she gained to make the class a bit more personal for each student (there weren't a ton at the class). This way she could have posted instruction, and spent the time monitoring how each student was doing with the prims they were working on etc, while also being able to field the questions that were popping up. This way, I think the class would have moved a bit faster, keeping people interested, and there still would have been time to field all the questions and attend to the concerns of the students.

Still, it was damn cool, and man, I'll tell you, it has been a LONG time since I sat in a classroom, and this came damn close. Some of the cool things she was doing included:

Rezzing interface window examples onto thin, flat prims, with highlighted areas to cover the subject she was talking about.

She would then rez a big arrow she had constructed and colored brightly to use as a giant pointer during the class. She would slide it through 3d space to various panels and objects she was talking about. This method was incredibly clear, and damn cool.

So, I plan on hitting the advanced class at 5/2 PM later this week, but since I have completed the Library tutorials at this point, I feel I have covered all the laterial, and now I just need to get creative. Still, I like to review, and these classes seem like a great place to go hang out, interact, sip coffee, and go over the material another time.

This SL stuff is just mind bendingly cool, and we are the pioneers of this new form of interaction. It's just so damn cool!

Oh, and I won 200L at Blackjack! ;)

Also: The grid is down for an upgrade today, Wednesday, March 1st. Should be back up at about 3 EST.

Use the cell phone method. :) No credit card needed!

Actually, the update they did yesterday is causing some issues, and I think they will be patching for a couple of days. Regardless, send that text message to yourself to get the process started! Although, if you want to buy L dollars to spend inworld like Sleezy does, you will need the credit card link.... some use it, some don't...

I tried the phone option, though no servers were listed for my area... or something, i think.

Yeah, the mobile thing only works State-side i think.

I gave 'em my card details and they haven't charged me anything. They've been going for over 2 years so i reckon they can be trusted.

Ahh, I forgot about that. Yeah, I Haven't had any charges applied, so it seems on the up and up, and I like having the option to use Lindex, SLExchange and all the other bridge services between Rl and SL, so the credit card thing is cool with me.

After the update yesterday, SL was running like **** for about an hour after I logged in. I camped for a bit and came back later to check and it seemed to be running fine, but man, it was acting WACK at first. My collision detection just wasn't working on a lot of the objects, so I was able to walk into people's houses through the walls, then start messing about with the stuff in the house. That went on for almost an hour until it finally fixed itself. Meanwhile, Bushido logged in and was not having the same probs, but, it took him almost 30 mins to download the new front end, which I DLed in about 25 seconds.

Also, camping is going away, so save those L and hone those skills!

I can take it or leave it really. I like the extra L, but it's a pain to keep up with the chair locations etc. I never camp while I am on, as that would be boring. I do think they have some detrimental effects on the grid, too. Some sims run like ass if they have a club full of camp chairs running. I presume I will go premium and start collecting the 2k per month they give you. I think I have about 8k kicking around right now, as I have spent a ton recently on all sorts of fun stuff!

I was just laughing because, in a given night, half the people I see are camping. Wonder how those people are going to respond to the news...

Maybe someone will set up a place in SL called "Miserland," where the money hogs can get together and talk about the good 'ole days. :p

And most o'them are talking about how they should go to their 'special place' later. Guess that's what they'll do instead ;)

Heh, i'm more of a money piglet. I use about a quarter of me cash almost everytime i buy a toy. (Why did i buy a celtic drum, oh why?)

In my jetlagged state I hacked some code for one of my SL friends that needed an object that would raise him to a certain height in meters and stop. Spliced some of the code from the workspace 1.8 set and tested it out. Works pretty well. I've been using it to HALO drop from about 2500m and suicide deploying my chute at about 150m. Getting my head wrapped around some of this LSL, finally.

Hit two more great social events in SL these past few days.

DJ Bliss @ The Power Plant - An excellent ambient gig. Dj Nethermind Bliss dropped ambient, dub, and trip at the incredibly well built and run Power Plant Cafe. Bushido, myself, and ...what's this??? My girlfriend is in SL??? yes, Smooch Vavoom all hung out and chatted while we enjoyed the great mix this girl did. After the set, and after many of the patrons started to drift away for the evening, I talked shop with Bliss for a while, possibly getting some future gigs myself, and then she invited us over to a cd release for...

Juel Resistence at MooD Indigo - Another well done venue, and a fair number of people made this an enjoyable experience, as well. Well, except for that time my girlfriend, new to the ins and outs of dressing her avatar in SL, teleported into the gig in a leather teddy and thong....

Nethermind Bliss is dropping a set tonight at the Open Latte Cafe tonight at 10PMEST/7PMSLT. You should come get down. BushidoBrown will be there, Tyrion will be on point, and a bunch of other solid SL characters will be on hand as well. Hit me with an IM for a TP.
