Do you like special DVD packaging and gift sets? I'm pretty undecided, myself. I think some gift sets would be cool to own, but then they wouldn't match the rest of my collection. I like to keep all my DVDs together, on a neatly organized shelf, and some gifts sets and special packaging would funk that up. The only gift set I own is the one for Return of the King, which sits on its own in the corner.

So what do you think about gifts sets and special packaging? Do you like all these models and figurines? And if you own any special DVDs yourself, then let us know.

When I say special DVD packaging, I mean DVD packaging that isn't the usual size. Like "The Simpsons" season six DVD and the Book of the Dead edition of Evil Dead.

I don't mind if it still resembles a regular dvd cover like the evil dead or simpsons season 6 because it could still go on my shelf. but i wouldnt want ones like the matrix collection or the lord of the rings, i find those a waste of space.

I like em just cause the extra stuff you get, Though it may take up some space it's always nice to get a few extra bonus' if your a big fan of that movie. Like I wouldn't reccomend going out and buying a special package of a movie you didn't like, but if you really enjoyed the film why not go for a gift set.

I myself have a few of them, like the Evil Dead book of the dead editions and the Lord of the Rings box sets, the seinfeld ones and a couple of the collectable tin box ones.

I like them, wish more would come like that it gives the whole dvd/boxset its own little style aside from the rest. But then there is the point you made, I like to keep all my dvds stacked neatly on the bookshevle. Now that matrix one is a little bit over the top but its still cool probally would need its own little spot somewhere.

The only one I own is the book of the dead evil dead edition.

I like my DVDs to be the same size....they look better on the shelf.

I am just realising how sad I sound.:o

I dunno about DVDs but I once bought a special edition version of the Lou Reed/John Cale album, Songs For Drella in a secondhand shop in Belfast.

It was the same price as the regular copy so I spied a bargain - it was a black velvet digipack with a bright orange CD - but the thing just sat on my shelf, getting balder and balder with each pick up.

Good album though... ;)

Hectors house by any chance?

I dunno if you remember Good Vibrations up the street from The Europa, Terry Hooley's late lamented place. It was a real treasure trove though mainly we'd go there just to chat to the guy who launched The Undertones (and Irish New Wave in general) and would appear on stage himself in a coffin. ;)

Knights on Botanic had a bigger selection, though, and the guy would give you a better price for your stuff if you timed it right - mid-afternoon when there was a smell of whiskey...

Hmmm, those were the days? Hectors house isnt too bad, if he knows you, you can get albums the weekend before they are officially released, that is a mini highlight.

That's like my mate Robert in Route 66 in Omagh. He'll even lend you a White Label (or whatever the CD-ular equivalent is) from something ages off release if you show enough interest. Just don't get chatting to him about The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band...

I've been to Hector's House a few times. There was also a great little Classical shop (ain't been there in years, it might be gone now) near the North St carpark run by two really camp, posh blokes. They had loads of imports. ;)
