The countdown has begun. In less than six days im off on a festive experience that may cause me temporary blindess through excitement. Normally when i get excited i have a little unexpected wee wee now and then. But now, i am beyond weeing. Im pooing with excitement. but anyway thats a whole new thread.
So in 6 days i set off on the holiday of immensity. From 15th im in Boston, which is in a place called Massychustis or something like that, then from the 20th im going to that place where Home Alone 2 was filmed....whats it called...New York, then on the 26th (British Boxing Day...do you guys have that in the States?) i'm off to Florida for 10 days. I. Cannot. Wait.
This is an artists impression of what it will mostly be like:
Blib in Boston

Blib in the Big Apple
http://static.flickr.com/35/71629189_11dd8882f3.jpg?v=0
So in the creation of this thread, my purpose was not to boast (Well maybe a little), but to find out about these wonderful cities, as i know fellow MOFOS exist in these places. And perhaps i might even get to meet one or two of them! (Seddy? ;) )
So whats the weather like in Boston? NY?
Should i wrap up warm?
Will i need shnuggly snow boots? Is it snowing? Will it?
Wheres some good places to eat? Where should i avoid? What staple tourist attraction must i visit? What can i get away with missing? Whats the most festive things to do this time of year? Shall i give in to my stifled festive obsession and dump my family Christmas eve and go run naked covered in my own excrement around the Rockafella Centre?
Any answers and bits of advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

NYC in winter is not just cold and snowy, but windy. Earmuffs would be a good idea.
Avoid anyplace that smells like pee or puts you in an enclosed space with anyone who is ranting (this won't be as easily avoided as you might think...) but otherwise, NYC is fabulous. I think Ellis Island is a "must see" spot, because so many people have come through there in the last two centuries. And go to the Marriot Marquise Hotel, up to the top floor (it rotates) and have a martini and a look at the city. There is a restaraunt/jazz club on Broadway called iridium (http://www.iridiumjazzclub.com/) that is really cool inside, and it's one of the places Monica on Friends worked for a little while. :D
In Boston, you can go to this old ship in Boston Harbor and push a box of tea into the drink. If you do, you're officially an American. This means they will tax you, just to get off the ship.

In regards to avoid wee smelling places, thats a given. As for ear muffs, how fabulous! Ive already got a pair of Fagin gloves to wear, you know the ones with the fingers cut off. And a big wooly jumper. That rotating restaurant/bar sounds amazing Sammy, will deffo try and give that a try. Plus me and my bro are Jazz fans so we shall give that a bar a try as well, we might even meet Monica! How exciting, i wonder if she still works there? We'd get on well i think. :D

Can't remember the name of the hotel, but apparently Woody Allen plays jazz on his clarinet regularly, there are also some great places for Jazz brunches in Harlem, the Lenox Lounge on Lenox Avenue between 124 and 125 street, also the Blue Note 131 West 3rd street between McDougal street and 6th Avenue, the Knitting Factory which is a bit more hip-hop/jazz infused.
Best guide I've found for New York is the Time Out guide, very helpfull, cool and modern.
Have a good time young Blib, and remember a stranger is just a friend you don't know yet, and if he/she's holding a gun and asking for your wallet, best to give it to them old chap!!!

If only I had had this advice when I went to sleep in a back alley in Las Vegas. I had to throw away a good set of clothes the next day.

Yes, even in Las Vegas - a city noted for being A-1 Class - one has to be so choosy about in which back alleys one can pass out.

What about the Sopranos tour, just to even things up ( Sex in the city tour???? )
There's loads to keep you occupied, you should try and get to the Guggenheim, the Met Museum and I think there is also a Guggenheim in Soho now, I believe a guy I know has a piece on display at the mo!!!
Dakota building and Strawberry fields, Central park, Union Square is good for shops, plus the film school I went to is there and you can walk down Broadway to the really cool shops south of Houston Street!!!
Man. I'm soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo jealous!
Oh well Chicago here I come......

I'm trying to think of exciting stuff to to in N.Y., but most of the time I just make the rounds at the comic stores and eating at Indian restaurants, or wandering around Chinatown looking at frogs in buckets and so forth. If you're into books, you should check out Strand, at 12th and Broadway. If you're into movies (heh), the American Museum of the Moving Image is pretty cool, and they're always playing something classic, but that's way out in Astoria. I may be coming up to catch a moving sometime in the next few weeks, if you want to meet up.
Blib, it is SO cold in Boston right now. Make sure you dress warm for our night of drinking at the pubs in Cambridge....

Aaaah ive had a total nightmare since ive been back! WHY OH WHY DID THAT PLANE LAND? Oh if only it could have crashed nicely in Boston and we all could have danced off the plan.
Sorry guys, ive been dying to blab about my festive bonanza but its been a bit annoying since ive got back. The toilet next to my bedroom, upstairs, has been having a re-fit over the last year and the radiator has been off the wall for about 7 months or so. In the teeeeny tiny period of the three weeks we were away it leaked and soaked all the way through the floor and ceiling into my parents bedroom flooding and destroying everything. Which was nice to come home to. Brown water everywhere. Dirty smelling brown water :(
Then the next morning we get up, jet-lag ridden, and find out my dad has been a victim of identity fraud. Someones used his details to open two mobile phones and a B & Q card which they blasted with a huge bill. So now his gotta deal with that too. I feel so bad for him, he hates coming back from holiday so this has made it all so much worse for him.
And just to add the last little bit of fun to see how we could be pushed, when we got into our car to go visit some family, we had three flat tyres and a flat battery! THREE FLAT TYRES! A CURSE I TELL THEE! A CURSE UPON MY HOUSES!
And last night i uploaded a load of my photos onto Flickr.com to post here and then firefox crashed deleating all my bookmarks and cookies making it impossible (for some reason) for me to sign in and upload my tasty pics here.
Someone hates me. Someone hates my family. And i will find them. One day.

I think it was this guy (http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7966/428cf8416b91b9gg.jpg). He hates everyone. And he's a pirate.
Sorry to hear that Blibbles! It sounds, well, poo.
Not to worry tho! A cute kitten (http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/3076/4295a37ed2c609ae.jpg) should soon fix everything! (Except tyres. She's rubbish at tyres ;))

Aaaah well done Golly, you know for a moment there i thought you had actually found the culprit with that first image, i was ready to attack, until last night we had a visit from THESE BEASTS! (http://www.wimp.com/kitties/) We found them lurking in the attic. After alot of 'shewing' and clapping they finally decided to leave so hopefully from now on everythings on the up. But i warn you, DONT LOOK AT THEIR EYES!
hey whenever you get around to it it's fine...did you get to see everything in nyc? how long were you here? i hope that you found bethesda fountain...is it still under construction in that area? did you stay for new years in times square?
sounds .like you had a great timeThanks Suzie, New Yorkl was brilliant. Was a bit of a nightmare when we got there, it was right in the middle of the transit strikes, so as wel walked out of Penn station with our four suitcases at rush hour, it was certainly an experience trying to get to our hotel. Especially walking five blocks. I dont think ive ever been insulted by so many Americans in such a short space of time. Was funny though.
Got to see the Bethesda fountain on our second day there and it was excellant. Would have been better if it was turned on but i remember hearing somewhere that they have it turned off for the winter? Anyway it was still great to see, and there was only a little bit of construction going on around it so that wasnt too bad. And the lake behind was all frozen over so that was pretty. Even though i decided to test the 'frozeness' of the ice and putting my foot in the water. Which wasnt so nice.
Anyway, more about New York when ive got the photos up, but for now, Its Part 1 of Blibs Festive Adventure of Festive ness!
Boston!
Heres some pictures i've managed to retrieve so far, theres plenty more to come....MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
When we got there it was absoloutly freezing, and after a scary taxi ride in rush-hour (Jeez you Americans love to beep your horns) we arrived at The Omni-Parker Hotel on Boston Common. Apprently its the oldest running hotel in the US. It was absoloutly beautiful. This was the room i shared with my bro whilst we were there. two double beds and a tray of yummy snacks!

Was such a nice room. It overlooked the old City Hall which ill post a photo of later.
This is me riding Ass...sorry i meant The Ass outside the old City Hall. That metal was so very cold.

Thenext day we all went out for a walk around the city and followed the freedom trail. this was one of my best days, was so interesting and so beautiful. Really good fun. Heres one of the first buildings we came across, just round the corner from our hotel. But ive totally forgotton the name of it! i wanna say the Old State House but i could be wrong. Anyway, it was a brilliant building. Stuck right in the middle of all the skyscrapers. Looked great day or night.

Heres a spooky wodden woman i came across. I thought she looked pretty so i took her photo. I think shes dressed like the Statue of Liberty. With cotton reels for her eyes.
http://static.flickr.com/40/84129978_5bc8de595d_b.jpg
Heres my bro attempting to navigate himself across a graveyard we came across on the freedom trail. It was so icy, walking was not really an option.
