What do you all think of them?
I have read about the topic quite a bit because motivations interest me, particularly when they involve what seems to me to be bizarre behaviors.
Do you feel that Vampirism, as such, is a valid religion? They do have rituals, seek higher awareness through practice of such and they do believe in a higher power.
What about blood play/blood sport? Does that bother you? Generally speaking (I can't vouch for all the wierdos out there), the blood comes from a 'donor' who is a willing participant. Is there blood taboo?
Finally, what about the psi vampires who claim to need to suck the energy from other people to live... not blood, psychic energy. Are they looney tunes?
You all tell me.

I'm suspicious of trends, especially when they're about lifestyle or beliefs. I think there are always a lot of bandwagon jumpers. I would never dismiss someone else's experience-based beliefs, because I've come to learn that with more experience I understand more. But when it's just someone following a fad, I can't say I have a lot of respect for that.

Can you say more about this? Motivation is something I've been trying to explore over the last 3 years or so, and I'd love to hear your observations.

I don't know much about the rituals or beliefs...

Given what we know about diseases that live in the blood, I think it's a pretty dopey idea to play with it. I think part of the 'taboo' is an animal-level reaction though.

I've known a few of those. Some have posted here. :indifferent:
Another setting that is rife with energy vampires is the Hollywood system. I can't tell you how many people, when they find out you're new here and like movies or are an actor, will start bagging on the system like mad, just so they can hear you defend it. They act all cynical, but if you're apt to notice motivation, you'll see they're eating up every word you're saying while disagreeing with you.

I basically do not understand enough about Vampirism therefore I am a bit wary of it.
With regards to it being a valid religion...as opposed to some form of cult? I am just slightly confused on what a valid religion is, I am sure there are some who would state that no religion is valid. :)
Blood play...I have no real opinion on blood play, it can take place during foreplay, a bit of s&m, some people like their steak raw, every saturday night you can go down the town and see people sucking on eachothers necks (pissed)...I cannot really condone it for the possibility of infectious disease.
How are they actually donating? It is not possible for a human being to actually get much blood out of someone else through a small incision, are people donating their blood or are they injuring themselves?
What does concern me is who is turning to vampirism.
Louis Theroux, did a series of quick wacky people for BBC (might have been a different channel) once and featured a person who believed he was a vampire as well as a girl who then sucked blood from his arm (she got around a millilitre, after which she said she felt something along the lines of 'good'). This girl if I was recall was from a broken home of some sort, she seemed very vulnerable and in awe of this vampire person.
Of course I am not saying they wish to take advantage of others...but I am worried about the people in society who wish to fit in somewhere and will do anything to feel as though they belong to some sort of group.
This is a very good post, interesting topic.

Personally I think it's people trying to find an identity to cling on to.
Generally speaking you tend to find the people involved in Vampirism and other such " religious " cults are easily lead individuals who don't appear to have any strong views or beliefs of their own, and are looking for some sort of acceptance.
I don't know any vampires myself, so I'm going by what I've seen on tv, again these programmes can be biased or working to an agenda, I did attend a meeting when I was at school about Cults, and was pretty shocked by a woman's stories about what went on with her son and his involvement in a certain well known religious cult.
Can't make a definite stance on the subject because I feel I'm not in full possession of all the facts, but it does have a morbid curiosity value.
I did like the Count from Sesame Street, so I guess they're not all bad!
Ha, ha , ha , I love to count.........

You mean specific to this topic or in general?

Either would interest me. I was asking in this thread specific to vampires, but as I said I'm fascinated by the whole spectrum.

Bloody Goths. Trippin' over them every time I go past Belfast City Hall.
I want to shout "I remember The Sisters Of Mercy and Bauhaus!" but never have the energy. It's cider they drink, though, not blood.
I've got the wrong end of the stick again, haven't I? :(

They are all looney tunes.
But I'm not entirely against blood. Now, these vampire ritual things, they can do whatever the hell they want, just don't ask me to join in. I'll punch your fangs out. But, like Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thorton - they wore a tiny bit of each other's blood in a vial around their necks. That's not so bad. I knew a girl in high school who did the same thing with her boyfriend (and no, I wasn't a goth). I think of it in kind of a romantic way - that blood traveled through your lover's heart.
But when I think of these vampire rituals, I think of grossness. I think they're really eating each other and slurping up all of the blood they can get. It's a vampire steakhouse that I'm imagining. Again, don't come near me, vampires. I take garlic in pill form everyday.
