View Full Version : DVD's w/ English & German sub-titles
I'm learning German and I'm wanting to get movies w/ both English & German subtitles. However, I've only been able to find movies such as Downfall, Run Lola Run and Goodbye Lenin in German w/ English and French sub-titles. I live in Canada and that's why we have French sub-titles as well. If I were to order the movies from Germany it looks like I can only get the movies w/ German sub-titles. I don't want to buy the same movie twice. If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate the help.

well, unfortunately, i live in Germany right now, and actually it depends on the rights mostly why a dvd here doesn't have English subtitles, but i did see many that did. a last example is Sling Blade, and i think Big Fish too, had both subtitles. sometimes rights really suck since Short Cuts in Germany is only available in German with English subtitles, which is purely ridiculous. i mean, Altman! not a Van Damme movie! and in France, you've got the English version but cannot hide the French subtitles, cuz of those rights. :( *****!

I rented Stalingrad on VHS several years ago. Wonderful and sad movie. It was in German with English subtitles. Also Die Brücke, about young children called to defend a bridge, was in German with subtitles.

Many Fassbinder films are on DVD with both German and English subtitles. "The Marriage of Maria Braun" is one.
