View Full Version : My life changed yesterday.

I can't believe what happened yesterday. It's something that changed my life forever. I just want to point out that I don't live in a perfect neighborhood but I don't live in a bad one ether. Ok, this is how the story went.

I was walking to the store, and on my way back I took a different route. So I started walking down the street that eventually leads to my house. Then I saw some gang bangers talking to some dude on a porch. The gang bangers are OA's. They started waving gang banger signs at the man on the porch. Then on the porch I saw a girl named Dezi, I did not know her well but my brother did. She was only 16, and before I tell you what happened I just want to tell you this girl lived a very bad life. She did not get any love from her family so she joined a gang. (Bad move) Then the gang bangers pointed a gun to the man, the man moved out the way and went into the hallway of his apartment building, the girl was on the porch with her friend that is 21, they must have not noticed the gun. The gang bangers opened fire and shot the 21 year old girl in the stomach, she fell down gasping for breath. Then they continued shooting their gun. The other girl (Dezi) was trying to help her friend when out of no where she got a bullet in the head. Half her head was blown off. And she just died instantly, and fell. I just looked as I stop talking to the police on my cell phone, my jaw dropped. And I finished telling the cops the story. And as the gang bangers drove away, I began walking up. People in her family started screaming. Pools of blood were dripping down the stairs. I was in such shock, why would people do this to each other? I realize just how bad people are in this world. I felt so bad, I cried for an entire day for that girl. The other girl is in surgery at the moment according to the news. I will say no more.

Have you guys had any experiences in your life like this?

You sure Boyz N The Hood wasn't slipped into your subconscience?

For some reason i thought you were from the UK, which sure makes the story stranger.

I don't know what kind of state I would be in if I had just seen someone get their head blown off. Especially a 16 year old girl... are you going to need therapy?

I don't think i'll need therapy, but it did change my life by a long shot. I now know just how **** up the world is.

Good grief! Just this past week we lost my husband's diabetic cousin (age 47) to an infection in his foot ... and we're all in shock and numb and upset. I can't even BEGIN to imagine something like this, which involves such horrid violence and fear.

How horrible. And yes, men are basically evil, but redeemable. Stories like this make being a Calvinist a lot easier. ;)

i can't believe this. And I can't believe how lighthearted this thread is either. Sorry if im being a prude, or being too serious but that is unbelievable Butcher. Why on Earth would you, or those poor girls that were shot have to go through something so dreadful. Your like 15 years old! Theres no way you or anyone needs to be a part of this. I just can't believe it. Maybe this is becuase i live in the U.K and gang warfare is pretty limited here but that is so awful that you had to witness that. I seriously think Sexy hit it on the head asking whether your going to need therapy. I think i would. Those poor girls families.

Jesus dude move out of your neighbourhood as fast as your family can do it.

Without going into the morbid details of things I have been witness to I want to say that the wanton disregard for human life around the world is deplorable. The sad fact is that humans have always had a evil side and sometimes the innocent become victims or witnesses. I hope you come out of this shocking trama stronger and wiser. Only you can decide what path this incident will lead you to. I wish you the best and my heart goes out to the families of this tramatic event.

I have a co-worker whose 16 year old nephew was shot a few months ago in a gang initiation thing. He was not in a gang. He was in front of his grandmother's house and an easy target for someone who was looking to make a name. It's hideous that children get caught up in such things.

It is terrible that you witnessed that, but it is something that happens every day. It is not a sign that people are generally bad, in my opinion. There are people who are, and we all have it in us to do bad things. But I think ultimately, fear drives people to do things like what you saw. I hope you can deal with what happened healthfully.

Glad to hear you're ok, unfortunately this is just part of human nature. Even without guns, people will still find a way to commit senseless murder. I live in Glasgow in Scotland, now nicknamed the Murder Capital of Europe, we had more murders per head of capita last year than New York!!! The majority of murders involve knives, and a lot of these are committed due to a Heroin war going on at the moment.
Glasgow has always had a mean city reputation, there is a lot of poverty, and unfortunately people find escape in things like alcohol and hard drugs like heroin.
Life is too cheap nowadays, and many murders happen as a spur of the moment thing, many people who have committed murder must wish they could live their life again and not make the same mistakes.
Unfortunately tribalismn and gangs play a role, especially in the US, where guns seem to be readily availeable to those who don't have the brain to deal with the responsability.
I've been to Chicago a couple of times, but as a tourist you rarely get to see the seadier side of a city, similar to many people who have a postcard image of Glasgow, whilst I'm not faced with danger every day, I'm always wary of certain areas of the city, it seems to be every daft 14 year old carries a knife and would use it without thinking twice.
I fear for the future, especially one day when I have kids of my own, but I choose to try and live my life with a cautious optimism and don't let the bastards get me down.
Keep your chin up!

I think the most pivotal reason this did not effect me as much as it would any normal person is because I've witness things like this before. The way this effected me is that I know what I'm dealing with now. I'm going to high school with in the next month or so, and I now know what the worse can be if I hang with the wrong crowed. So in a sense, this gave me a message.

This all seems a little surreal and hard to accept for me, living in UK where we don't have gang warfare, thank god. But i think calling it human nature is a cop out, we'd be in a sorry state if everyone had it in the nature to kill others senselessly, ok, in a more primitive state there's survival of the fitest etc, but that's different. It's our soceity that's in shambles creating the problems, few youngsters have any respect for authority or law and as Sammy says- want to make a name for themselves. Perhaps the closest thing i have experienced is chavs, and i'm sure it's nurture over nature that makes them violent. Most are poor and come from working class backgrounds and housing estates, their parents and background can clearly be seen as influences.

I live in Essex as well, just outside Basildon, so i'm more than familiar with the violent chav and drunken yob, but nothing like this kind of stuff is going on over here. If someone gets stabbed its all over the news, i mean look at that poor kid on the news the other day for being hit in the head with an axe just because he was black. Awful.

It was awful. Poor guy, age 18 i think, from Liverpool. He walked his girlfriend to her bus stop and walked through a gang of guys taunting them. Apprently he tried to ignore them and told his girlfriend to run. By the time she came back they had imbedded an axe in his skull and left him to die just becuase of the colour of his skin. It's so terrible.

I hope the bastards get what they deserve if caught and proven guilty.

Yeah thats the one. I agree. It's a sad fact but these kind of crimes are doubt to happen more frequently now what with all the racism going around after the London bombings.

well now there is a ot more tensions between muslims and caucasians and other races. Racist remarks are flung around in the street more and attacks have gone up i think. In my town 2 week ago 2 people were attacked and stabbed in two separate incidents. Not sure if it was racist or not, ill have to find out, but thats just the type of things that happens in my town far too often. My cousins fiance was murdered in a drunken row in front of his house - they have 3 children.

It's basically because the bombers that have been identified were Asian (British birth) Muslims. So now all the people over the country with intense hatred towards these bombers will start targeting asian muslims.

I must say, if you think about it too much, you'll be messed up in the head. I don't want to get into my personal life, but you can trust my word on this subject.
