View Full Version : What cologne/perfume do you wear?

Hmm..I am sort of into colognes, but recently I ran out. So i started to research different types of colognes. I bought a bottle of Egotiste Platinum and Armani-Aqua Di Gio. I have a small bottle of CK- Eternity, and a small bottle of Escada and finally a small bottle of CK1 The Aqua Di Gio smells the best of any cologne I have ever owned or heard of..but reading on the internet it seems that EVERYBODY has it. Is this true?
hmm...what do you guys wear? and how effective is it with the ladies.
Ladies, what perfume do you wear? and how effective is it against guys?

I have only one that I use: Gucci Crush. It's ok and the ladies seem to like it. I used to have another Gucci, I can't remember the name, but they don't sell it no more. That one used to drive the ladies crazy, it's the truth. Not that they threw themselves over me bursting with desire (well... ) but a lot of times I was asked "What is that cologne you're wearing!?!". Yeah, that one was a knock-out. *sigh*
I don't use cologne very often. I rely on my Nivea for men dry stick to surround me with an air of masculine freshness. And keep the flies away.
This thread is so metrosexual.....

Yeah, man! I wouldn't have replied if I didn't like it! It was all in good spirit!
I've got a lot of CK stuff; Eternity, Obsession, Be, One, blah blah blah. All tiny little bottles that have still managed to last me a couple years (though one's nearly out), even with semi-regular use. I'd say CK One is the best.
I've also got some stuff called "Joop!" which I hate, but which everyone else seems to like.

haha no doubt
btw yoda i think we have that same little ck collection..itsw like tiny bottles and anyways my favorite one used to be the small black bottle...but eventually it started smelling more like urine than cologne so i dumped it. Eternity is almost out. My ck1 is full..someone stole my obession..and finally i finished the other one which was cylindrical.

Not really a big cologne person, though I've always had cologne on hand and usually spray myself daily. There was a cologne that I found at Lazarus not too long ago, which I liked... it might have been Desire? I just checked my cabinet and found Desire Blue, which I just sprayed on my wrist to test it for this post. I don't know if I can still wear it, I believe it's old. It's my partner's cologne. I've been putting on his stuff mostly. I'm constantly fragrancing myself with his Candies For Men. I've also tried his Curve cologne, but I don't really like that stuff.
And I just found a bottle of something I had for years that I just loved - Raw Vanilla For Men.
http://www.fragrancex.com/images/products/sku/full/1093M.jpg
Now, it's cheap - I've looked it up and the retail value is $12.50. It was a gift from my sister, I think for Christmas. She always gets me cheap stuff. But I love this cologne. I only have a little bit left in my old bottle, which I can save for fun times in my future. I think some people find it kinda nasty, but some others have really liked it, though they may be lying through their teeth. But I love the smell of vanilla, and I think it would go great on a man. But anyways, if anyone ever bought me another bottle of this, I would be so thrilled. I have many great memories with this cologne - I don't necessarily remember what I've worn it to, but I know I have great memories while wearing it. It brightens up the picture.
The bottle reads:
RAW VANILLA
The fresh organic power of the rainforest captured in a fragrance for men. Rich vanilla, crisp leaves, teak and bamboo create a unique environment of natural warmth and pure masculinity.

ce soir ou jamais (tonight/now or never), annick goutal
... Ce Soir ou Jamais is a blend of Turkish rose enhanced by various flowers and plants to leave a fresh, intoxicating scent on the skin that's described by it's creator as "infinitely secret". A subtle blend of sensual and enveloping notes that is mysterious in nature.
Notes: Turkish Rose, Ambrette Seed. Style: Sparkling, airy, and breathtaking.
esencia de duende, j. del pozo
It is the result of the following top fragrance Notes: bergamot, citrus and peach. The middle notes are: jasmine, orange blossom and oakmoss and the base of the fragrance is: tuberose, musk and sandalwood.
Duende: The duende is a rarely explained concept in Spanish art, particularly flamenco, having to do with emotion, expression and authenticity.
the' vert (green tea), l'occitane
Green Tea Eau de Toilette is like sitting in the shade of a citrus tree sipping a cool glass of green tea while the fresh mist of the nearby fountain washes over.
Notes: Fresh Mist, Citrus Notes, Green Tea. / Style: Free-spirited, feminine, and glamorous.
...
i'm intensely sensitive to smell and absolutely particular when it comes to what i will wear. i can't stand anything cloying or too spicy (lavender) or too sweet (vanilla, gardenia). i get a headache easily from a bad perfume/cologne and lean toward light, citrusy scents. i like complicated subtle scents that linger rather than slap you in the face. otherwise i'll give myself a headache and that's just sad.
my last love was Esencia de Duende which is a watered down version of the Duende, an airy, smoky scent. i wear green tea when i'm feeling lazy/hanging around going nowhere special or just want a change.
my true love now is ce soir ou jamais, which i got a random sample of in an online order and it literally gave me a nose-gasm. it drives me crazy - in a good way. it's d*mned special - it took the creator ten years to make! i wear it nonstop and sometimes dab green apple perfume in strategic places to add "BAM".
as you can see, i take my scents seriously. ;)

I can tolerate/appreciate a wider variety, but as for what I really like, it sounds like we have similar tastes. I'm going to look for the green tea one, sounds very nice. I like clean, fresh, light, feminine scents. If you have the chance to try White Camelia by St John, I think you'd like it.

Black code at the moment, but I like most of their aftershaves, especially Acqua di Gio and Mania. Fresh and zingy!!!
Somebody bought me Paul Smith's aftershave, not a huge fan, and it spends most of it's life in my gym bag.I guess because I like him as a designer, especially his suits somebody thought it would be a good idea to buy me the aftershave. If I'm not wearing Armani then its Issey Miyake.

Yeah black code is definitly nice..but gio is better in my opinion.
Anyways someone mention phermones...did u know that if u put cologne on certain spots of your body..you make your own "version" of the cologne because your body mixes its phermones with the cologne and then releases it...thats why cologne smells a bit different on everyone.
I think they even sell rat phermones or some **** like that since rats produce over 150 types of phermones to attract other rats.

anonymous - behave! stop spraying yourself with cologne in the eye.
i am re-reading this thread, it's from long ago when i was not around much. i realize i am a scent snob. what can I do? i also can't wear any plated metals - only the real deal. so no plated silver, gold, platinum, etc., for me. woo!
thanks for the link - hard to find and always up my alley. this chick at grove isle spa in miami recommended this other URL to me, noted the store to be known for scents that will have you smelling like no other: http://www.aedes.com/home.php
it's a boutique perfumerie in NY, they get a lot of european stuff we don't see often. i've bought a few of their things. apparently "costes" is one of their major sellers; i bought it, it's very unique. i wear it for nights where i want to be ... well, dangerous is the way to put it.
Costes. The mysterious signature scent of the exclusive Hotel Costes (the ultimate destination on Faubourg St Honore in the heart of Paris) was created by Olivia Giacobetti and the hugely talented Rami Mekdachi who is also the art director of ’Scent Lab’, the fragrance forecast bible for the cognoscenti.
This exclusive Eau de Toilette is distributed in limited quantities. With it's mysterious character, created by intoxicating essences of coriander seeds, white pepper, laurel, oriental woods, incense, musk perfectly balanced with hints of rose, it resembles the unique atmosphere of the trendy yet timeless elegance of Hotel Costes.
...
i still deal with the ce soir ou jamais, but am playing around with a whole lotta scents from the above site. i haven't necessarily picked a favorite yet.
right now i've kinda switched from the' vert (l'occitane) to crabtree and evelyn's sarawak, it's a bit moodier but still light, effervescent, green and citrus. feels very adult and provocative.
the problem with green is there's a fine line between water and plant, and i lean toward water if that makes any sense. if it starts smelling like grass or lawn, i'm outta there. so i rarely find a green i can deal with. so the best greens are effervescent, they sting your nose a little but in a bright, i just bit into a kumquat way.
