That 'dvdcheckout.com' account is mine, but i totalled all the dvd's in the house for that.....the one i posted in here is just mine alone.

Makes sense, sadly if i counted all the DVDs on the house i'd only have 5 more.
As for collection, 6/10 (that's good btw)

Yes and no, i just copy and paste from a word document i use to keep them in check, those extra numbers correspond to discs of content which i lend to people and can forget about. Hence need to record them. Anyway, £40 for a boxset, it's only fair, they're still DVDs not special feature discs, which would be cheating.
Where's your list Parky?

Out of all the lists so far, Sinny's is the one that fits my tastes the best.
Jason, I'm really surprised that you don't own a single great classic from yesteryear. Do you not like older films, or have you just not gotten to them yet? I'm sure you're spending lots of dough already...anyway, I'm just curious.

If you're talkin' Raging Bull, Wizard of Oz, Godfather and such.... I have those and others. I haven't fully updated the listings with what I got. :(

Well, I meant films like Rebecca, Touch of Evil, Casablanca, The Thin Man, Lawrence of Arabia, and Ben-Hur.
Do you have any aspirations to own movies like those? Like I said...just curious...I have no desire to judge, ridicule, or tolerate. ;)

They are all great films, and yes I do own a couple. Casablanca and Ben-Hur. ;)
I have no desire to judge, ridicule, or tolerate. ;)
I know that. It did seem at first when I began to read that you were making me change my opinion and likings in film. (Which I despise) But we're cool :D .

Quality not quantity... I've only got season 2 of Black Books (still waiting for 1 & 3 to arrive from Screenselect) myself. It was one of those shows that I'd keep forgetting was on and would only catch 10 minutes at a time. It's got a real Fawlty Towers vibe.
Here's my collection (http://www.movieforums.com/community/showthread.php?t=10394), if you're interested. It needs updating though. ;)

At the the time they were cheaper than the Criterion editions. But now some of the Criterion editions are actually cheaper. So I'll sell those vanillas one day, and fork out some money for the Criterions.
I also need to change my editions of 8½ and Jules et Jim.

Darth, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnng!!! Have you ever added up the prices on all those? Considering you're a film student, that's actually not that shocking. Quite the impressive collection.;)
Yeah it's a bit compulsive isn't it. My main problem was that the shop I buy most of my DVD's in is on my way home from work, or if I was going to my parents house. It's a great shop, and sells DVD's for as little as £3, our minimum wage here is £5, so it gives you a lot more bang for your buck!!!
I'm a recovering amazon-aholic, I must be part owner by now!!!
Don't want my collection rated, films and music are personal choices, I like having an ecclectic taste in both, and we get a lot more foreign films here too.
I just went cold turkey, amazon here I come!

I'm not hip to rating people's collections.
Yup, I agree. With collections you're sometimes rating someone's job, living arrangements or income. I prefer picking out individual DVDs, such as:

My DVD sports collection consists of nothing, nowt, nil and nada. I had a few on VHS but my most prized video was An Impossible Game, the fly-on-the-wall doc about Graham Taylor's Hamletian descent in charge of the England footie team. Never found it on DVD. :(

When you say 'press discs' do you mean they're preview copies?
Go and watch:
I'm Not Scared
Land & Freedom (then watch it again, and maybe a third time :))
El Cid (which I don't think is about plain clothes police officers on holiday in Spain)
Do The Right Thing
Sideways
Heck, there's a lot of good ones there but I don't know which ones you've already seen. ;)
When you say 'press discs' do you mean they're preview copies?
Yeah, they're preview discs, so sometimes they lack some of the extras, occasionally they have timecodes, and they don't come with nice shiney packaging. But i can live with that ;).

Yeah, i should really mark out my 'seens'. I'll do that. (As for the 'goodness' - it's just my luck that most of my workmates were only interested in snapping up the glossy hollywood flicks :))
Sideways is classy for sure, and Do the Right Thing is an old favourite. I still haven't listened to the commentary yet tho. It's hard to find the time, but that one's up there on my list of 'must listen's.
El Cid felt kind of topical, with its Muslim/Christian balancing act thing. I'll def get on to that one soonish (only soonish tho, coz i've got an aversion to Heston's scenary-chewing epics as a rule ;)). Land & Freedom i might get on to tonight. I've wanted to give it a proper viewing for ages.
Cheers T :)

Land & Freedom i might get on to tonight. I've wanted to give it a proper viewing for ages.
If it's got the commentary track you're in for a treat as well - the retail version I have features a converstion between Loach and a Spanish Civil War historian.
And on a commentary note: The track on Do The Right Thing didn't quite hit the spot for me (and it's one of my favourite films). Spike seems to have got better at them recently though. ;)
Yeah, i've listened to the first 15 mins or so and it sounded pretty informative.
The Do The Right Thing one was apparantly patched together from individual recordings. That's probably why it's not so hot.
Haven't seen a lot of them but I'll give it a shot.

I have a question for you DVD collectors. If you were in desperate need of money would you sell some or all of your collection? I have sold my VHS collection to a used movie store in the past because I need some quick cash. They gave me between $3 and $8 per tape. That was back in 2002.

I really need to beef up this collection. I don't have as much Charlie Kaufman as I'd like, and I'm missing some personal favorites that I haven't gotten around to picking up. :(
Not a bad collection, i know what you mean about a few stinkers, I have a few in my collection. :yup:
TBJ: Thanks for moving your list. :) Again, Quite the classic collection, with many milestone pictures. I still need to see many of these.
Sleezy: I have quite a feww titles I want out of my collection, as well. In the coming weeks, my girlfriend and I will go through our collection and take the unwanted stuff down to Newbury Comics to trade for some store credit. Then I can pick up a few titles my collection lacks. I need to get a new copy of Se7en, as mine is the old two-sided first run with a shabby transfer. Other titles I will shed include Cronos, Dressed to Kill, Heavenly Creatures (good film, not something I will watch many times), Rumble in the Bronx, Sex-Lies and Videotape (again, good, but not a rewatch), Sphere, and the terrible Daredevil....
I should also mention there are a few "stinkers" in my collection that I rather enjoy, some of which being Encino Man, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Antitrust, and Waterworld. Movies I can always pop in and watch for pure fun. :)

In no way is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves a stinker! That's one of my favorite movies of all time.
I feel the same about Robin. I can see it has problems, but I like it anyway.

Oh ok. Yeah I think I watched maybe 3 episodes of 'Friends' over the decade. I really enjoy the Supranos and Family Guy however though I am behind 2 seasons with the Supranos. "The Shield" is another excellent t.v. series.
And you do own allot of the ones I have there in your list.

It's mostly just the DVD's that were in the standard releases for each, while a few of the movies have new commentary tracks for them, and it's the 25th Anniversary edition of the first Halloween that's in the set, so great sound and picture....can't remember about the extras for that though, it's been a little while since i've watched (where does all the time go?)

Yeah I know, I got crappy taste but only 3 out of that list I wish I hadn't bought.
Here are some I wish I hadn't bought:
- 40 Days and 40 Nights

- Dawn of the Dead (orig) Loved the Remake a couple years ago
- The Devil's Rejects
- Ginger Snaps 2
- House of Sand and Fog (too depressing)

- The Killing Time (good till the ending)
- Napoleon Dynamite (horrible)
- Schindler's List (good for a rent but not to re-watch)

Well at least I got some of them.
I should have known Napoleon would have been one of them. I had my copy taken from me a while ago, and I never thought to ask for it back just because of how terrible it was.
And while I try my best not to get any "bad" movies, I know that many of the DVDFanatic ones that are sent to me are the weakest in my collection.

What is DVDFanatic and why are they sent to you? You mean you order for them or are they freebies? DVDFanatic is a website, http://www.dvdfanatic.com, that I write for.
I get sent some of the contest DVDs for free, and a couple of DVDs to review here and there. Recently, I got the short-lived Adventures of Brisco County Jr. Complete Series box set, starring Bruce Campbell, to review. It comes out July 18, so expect the review sometime before then...

Oh ok, cool. And how long have you been writing for that site? What so far is the best dvd you've been sent anways? Been writing since 2004, I'm the News Editor mostly, posting news constantly. I have done a few reviews though, nothing major.
The coolest DVD I ever reviewed was the "Book of the Dead" version of Evil Dead II, which I still have and which doesn't stink anymore.
The coolest DVD I was ever sent just to watch was the 4-disc Ultimate Box Set for the original Dawn of the Dead.
I did really enjoy reviewing the Wild Things Unrated edition though....:D

What do you mean by "which still doesn't stink anymore"? And what made it such a cool dvd to be reviewed? I hope you dont mind me asking all these questions here.

I only own the regular version there. What extra things were added for the Unrated? The "Book of the Dead" packaging literally stunk up my living room. It smelt like gasolene. It's the stuff that's it's made of I think that did it.
From my review....
"Made of a plush rubber, the outside feels similar to flesh, or something close to, and screams when you push on the right eye. Unfortunately, the case has a very distinct smell – very close to the stench of gas. It doesn’t smell too bad if the case is far away, but if it’s right next to you, it’ll knock you out."
It was a cool DVD to review because for one, it had the cool packaging, and two, it was a classic Bruce Campbell film that I already owned, so it was something interesting to compare the two side by side, which I've never done before.
Here's a link to the review.

And as for Wild Things, again, pointing at my review
(which is here http://www.dvdfanatic.com/review.php?id=wildthingsu).
"The main reason anyone would want to buy this movie like I mentioned at the beginning is that it’s unrated. But what’s so unrated about it? Nothing at all is what. The new cut is about seven minutes longer, and basically just adds a few extra scenes to the final cut. There’s more with Murray and Wagner, an extended lesbian pool scene, a whole new scene which basically kills the entire movie and makes it so much more complicated then it really is, and a few extra scene extensions. Nothing really to jump and make you desperate to have the new cut of the film added to your collection. For all those wondering (I know there’s probably many), the infamous threesome scene does not get any extension added to it."

Ok yeah, I've seen that very cover around in stores. Are you saying they deliberately tried to get those covers to stink like by trying to give it that 'dead' connection to the movie itself? So If I go buy one now, it will have a dreadful aroma to it.

Also you added on that link to your review, it has a few filmographies (boring) along with some trailers. Not even 'A Making of Featurette'. Your right, nothing about that 'Extended' version seems worthwhile in buy.

So If I go buy one now, it will have a dreadful aroma to it. No idea on it being deliberate. It's the rubber itself, it's just weird, and does feel like human flesh. I had heard similar things about the OOP Evil Dead 'Book of the Dead" that was released years ago, so I wasn't all too surprised. But yeah, if you buy it, expect it.

Evil Dead 1 Book of the Dead I had heard had the really bad smell, but I never got it so I wouldn't know.
The Evil Dead II Book of the Dead that I have had the smell (which upon smelling now, smells fine), and as an updated bit to the packaging, had the screaming eye feature.

don't miss it. Without spoiling anything for you, it's truly the most intensely suspenseful film I've seen since the original 'Alien'. I wanted the double disc because I wanted the alternate ending, not being really crazy about the theatrical version's. I believe the r1 DVD is coming here stateside in November.

Lion's Gate, I believe. I also believe I remember reading this at JoBlo's site 'Arrow in the Head'. Remember the Wolf Creek DVD coming out r1 here in the states last March despite it being released in US theaters Christmas? Like Wolf Creek, Descent has already had a theatrical run but has been distributed here in this country even after it's home country's DVD release. Quick release to DVD here. Hope this was helpful.

LOL, I'd be alright in a cinema if they banned idiot's that don't shut up, people who leave their mobile phones on and they made the seat's more comfortable, but until that day i say "Hurrah for the invention of the home cinema, Where i don't get fleeced for pic n mix and popcorn and the only annoying thing's i have to put up with are the wife and kid's!!"
