Hear that folks...?! That's the sound of Americans embracing a new fad. That other sound you hear is the cash register laughing at those of us who fell for it.

Originally in yellow, and sold for the main purpose of raising money for cancer awareness, small rubber wristbands have conquered the American public and everyone seems to want one.

These half-inch wide soft rubber wristbands now come in every color imaginable. They usually have a single word engraved in the plastic that's meant to be inspirational; "Wisdom", "Happiness" or "Joy". You can buy them at any major department store, but if you don't care to brave the mall, head down to your local gas station and scan their selection. For those of you who have children in school, wait, because the fundraiser next year will include this very band with the school color and name.

Generally these items are sold for $1.00 and come in a beautiful cellaphane pouch.

So, did anyone besides me buy one? What color? What's it say?

Honestly, Timmy...I never heard of 'em.

You need to quit hanging around bistros so often. ;)

I'm wearing a wristband to protest against the plethora of wristbands I see.

It's got studs on...

I originally bought the first Livestrong Yellow band, because it was for a good cause and was endorsed by Lance Armstrong who is someone I admire.
I also own the anti-racist White and Black bands interlinked(again by Nike) because its something I believe in, and have also recently bought the White -Make poverty history band, again something I whole-heartadly support.
I only wear the Yellow Livestrong band, but I'm annoyed at bogus traders cahing in on this trend with meaningless and pointless imitations. None of their money goes to any charity, I would like to see shops boycott them for this reason.

Well, this thread took an unexpectedly hilarious turn. :rotfl:

I was given a blue bracelet for donating some of my jewelry to the Children's Tumor Foundation. It says "Solve the NF puzzle... CTF.org" I think NF is neuro-fibromyalgia.

.....I have a coke slap band.....but I lost it :( ....we never get fads much in Australia, well not interesting ones anyway. We get quite a few clothing fads which don't affect me much due to my Uni Bum status :p . Sounds fun though. I hope they migrate over somehow, maybe in the winter.

Winter would be the best time, as I've recently learned they're a bit sweaty in summer. : /

My son has a yellow one (I think it's for the Pirates or the Steelers, though! Ask Yoda!). And my mom has a pink one for breast cancer, which she JUST recently BEAT the crap out of and is DONE with treatments and feeling great! (We celebrated her graduation from radiation yesterday ... and Yoda's brother wanted to know if the radiation gave her "super powers"!).

I currently don't have any, but if I find one with a cause I firmly believe in -- that isn't obvious ... I mean, is anyone FOR poverty or cancer? -- I'd buy one.
