As the days flew by, and May 3rd came closer and closer to happening, the grin on my face got bigger and bigger each day. Now, after seeing Spider-Man come to life on the big screen, I know the wait was worthwhile.

Spider-Man starts off with the "You think you know me" narrative that you've heard in the first trailer. From there we see our zero who becomes a hero, Peter Parker, played perfectly by Tobey Maguire. It's obvious from the get-go, Parker isn't the popular guy. The only person that seems to care about Parker is Mary Jane Watson, played by Kirsten Dunst. I take that back, she's not the only person that seems to care about him, Harry Osborne, played by James Franco, is a friend of Parker. But neither MJ nor Harry have the love for Parker like his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, played by Rosemary Harris, and Cliff Robertson. I would have to say that of the two families really focused on in the movie, the Parker's and the Osborne's, the Osborne's take the prize. The relationship between Harry and his father Norman, played wonderfully by Willem Dafoe, was a very strong one. I would say that character identification is very strong in this movie, you will know who people are and you will know their background enough that you can relate, somewhat.

Now, let's get down to the main story. If you are at all familiar with the comic book, you know the origin of Spider-Man, and you also know the origin of the Green Goblin. The story has been changed a little bit, but I assure you, it's still a good story. It's a simple story of good versus evil, and the visuals for the movie help in a lot of ways. After gaining his new powers, Parker, is at first unaware of these new powers and finds it odd that he has to pry things off of his hands. Even more so, he doesn't understand his webbing, how it shoots, and what to do with it (which is a very hilarious scene). If you remember the "spider-sense" from the comic, it was squiggly yellow lines. The way they did it for the movie was really, cool. They don't really show the full effect but twice, any other time and it's a high pitched buzz. Norman, at first, is unaware of his new powers as well. He hears laughter, but can't seem to find where it's coming from. I will avoid going too much into story here simply because, well, I don't want to spoil it for some of you.

There is a strong theme present through the whole movie, and it was, and still is, present in the comic book. That theme is "With great power, comes great responsibility". So what's to stop you from seeing this, other than the theatre possibly being sold out? Wonderful story, great action sequences, and everything else you've been waiting for for 40 years.
