I think his bonding with Schwarzenegger as a father figure actually does provide a fair bit of heart to the movie, and the denouement of their shared arc, while shameless in the image chosen, is actually quite moving.

While it generally has a reputation for being a superior film to The Terminator, I find that its slightly excessive running time and less-than-stellar use of its quieter scenes are points that work against it just a little too much for its own good.

Arnie as the Terminator is again, wonderfully wooden at the beginning, though as the movie progresses, like with Reese and Connor in the first movie, he is able to take on and learn characteristics of those around him.

It has Arnie in his best role, it has a very awesome villain, Sarah Conner is a badass and not a damsel in distress, and the effects for this film hold up a lot better than the first movie.
