But the epic approach of both the battle of Minas Tirith and the last act where Frodo and Sam are in Gondor is probably the most epic hour or so I've ever seen in a movie.

It follows multiple plots which branch and intertwine, but the basic gist is that you have Frodo, a hobbit tasked with reaching a treacherous mountain to destroy the One Ring, which will in turn destroy the dark lord Sauron.

but it's with Frodo and Sam that the real character writing makes an impression as Frodo falls deep into the evilness of The Ring.

Frodo and Sam close in on Mount Doom with the ring, but they still have Gollum in tow and he has plans for separating the friends, and then separating Frodo from the ring.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring established that Peter Jackson had what it takes to make a movie of these proportions.

Gollum's loyalty is to the ring and he sets out to get it whatever means possible, which leads him to split Sam & Frodo's friendship apart as well as try to lead Frodo to his death in a spider cave.

The movie itself, was just brilliant. It deserves everything it gets, and should get more.

This is a beautiful end to the story.

I've saved commentary on the film's ending for my own; much ado has been made of the fact that, several times within the film's last 20 minutes, the film appears about to end, but does not.
