i dont know--HUGE fan of jackie earl...husband loved the orginal series, and said this was perfect, it explained what happened with out to much fluff...i dont like scary movies..so i cant comment...and i saw the 21/2 hours of behind the sceens and all the work he put into transformers, and how he wanted it to be authentic to the orginal series, and again...those robots looked pretty damn real to me..

did i mention jj abrams?? well him too on the list.

LOVE Abrams. Oh sure, the robots in the Transformers are frickin AMAZING, I have to agree. Alas, that has nothing to do with directing films, but more-so visual effects. And Jackie-Earle Haley is a fine actor, but again has very little to do with directing, and anyway, Sam Bayer directed that film.

For me, I have 3 favourite directors & they are:

Martin Scorsese (The Aviator, Gangs of New York, The Departed & Shutter Island)
Steven Spilberg (Catch Me If You Can & E.T.)
James Cameron (TITANIC)

Good whiskey make jackrabbit slap de bear.
Martin Scorsese is my all time favourite.

Martin Scorscese

Francis Ford Coppola - I love all these films.
The Godfather
The Conversation
The Godfather: Part II
Apocalypse Now
The Outsiders
Rumble Fish
The Cotton Club
Tucker: The Man and His Dream
Tetro

Ridley Scott - I think these are great films.
Alien
Blade Runner
Legend
Black Rain
White Squall
G.I. Jane
Gladiator
Hannibal
Black Hawk Down
A Good Year

But why these two directors are in my top five has everything to do with their personal cinematic style, quality in production, and skill level. They make beautifully crafted films. Also, I could listen to Ridley or Francis talk all day long. I think these are two of the smartest people working in the craft.
