I would have gone with Christopher Lee as King Schultz for 1972 myself.

Not bad. But, I always looking for actors with similiar height. Lee was almost 2meter and Waltz was about 177cm. Finch,Hopkins and Waltz are all similiar height. You can put argument between Jamie Foxx and Sydney Poittier about height differnce. It is about 10cm between(Foxx 176,Poittier 187) but in 70's there really wasn't much black actors to play such role.

I'd go with Fred Williamson as Django and Max Von Sydow as Schultz...

or, maybe too crazy but I'd love to see it: Klaus Kinski as Schultz.

If you're wondering who Tony Jay is, he's the guy who did the voice of Judge Claude Frollo from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
