Actor and hardcore Trump supporter James Woods has won the right to learn the real identity of a man who once made a joke on Twitter calling Woods a "cocaine addict" - even though the man has since died. Woods claims that the man's tweet damaged his reputation and could hinder his ability to be hired as an actor, and he is suing for $10 million in damages.
The always-classy Woods tweeted in October that he hoped the man, who used the pseudonym 'Abe List' on Twitter but was referred to as 'John Doe' in court papers, "died in agony, screaming my name". He refused to drop the suit after being informed of the death of the man he was suing. John Doe's lawyer now has ten days to turn over his client's real name.
“This is a significant step forward in our ability to recover the millions in damages caused by John Doe’s cowardly Tweet,” said Woods’ attorney, Michael Weinsten. “It also sends a message to others who believe they can hide behind the anonymity of online social media to falsely accuse public figures of heinous behavior without recourse to themselves."
