I cannot even escape clickbait on these forums... geesh

Ha!!!

No ide why they are shutting them down. To save money? To stop the trolls? I go to the specific movie discussion pages and tv shows. Back when Lost was on, I lived on that board for theories.

Will it increase traffic to MoFo??

haha. I don't remember going on IMDB ever but i ended up on all sorts of different message boards for theories when Lost was on. That and old MSN Wrestling Groups in like 2006 when i was 13 were my introduction to message boards. Never posted on any of them though.

I was going to make a mention, didn't know if discussing OTHER boards was ok.

I've been an official member there for 16 years, and for a few years before making a username. They want everyone to go on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube -- basically NOT a message board. It'll be a place to reply to what THEY list.

I'm guessing IMDB got paid a lot of money to refer them.

I never really visited the official forums because it was just full of threads with random arguments. However, I do read posts made on the film pages, so I hope those don't go. But it's more than likely they will, considering it uses the same forum function.

Ditto....I never go to the main boards there, because it's a bunch of flames. I don't even read them.

However, I do read some of the post on the individual movie pages. I gain a lot of insight there. Though I swear every classic movie has a dumb-ass post that says: Is this movie racist? Including a hilarious post about why Apollo 13 (1995) was racist....all the astronauts were white!

Survivor 5s #2 Bitch
I love the boards for certain actors and actresses, it has some interesting info on them. And it's brilliant for things like Black Mirror just to see certain theories people come up with.

But it is a mess. Hunger Games vs Battle Royale has been a warzone for years now, and so many threads get derailed due to petty arguments. I'll be sad to see it go though.

Yeah, the boards on a movie's page have really helped me out a lot. Whether it was to find a song/soundtrack, news on its progress or even where to find the film in general. It's just ridiculous getting rid of them.

Are they getting rid of those? I hope not. I bet it's the main boards that will be gone. But, then again it's probably a cost saving feature, as it takes a payed moderation team to police any board, so the movie boards might be gone too. Anyone now for sure?

I assume they would be if they're getting rid of the forum function entirely. They really do need to address this, though. Maybe they have and I missed it.

They did say this however...

"We will continue to enhance our current offerings and launch new features in 2017 and beyond that will help our customers communicate and express themselves in meaningful ways while leveraging emerging technologies and opportunities."

We'll just have to see.

You mean me? Kei's cousin?

I don't post on IMDb. Maybe five posts in the last three years. But they were entertaining and sometimes useful to skim over. Here is their full message:

IMDb Message Boards Announcement

IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.

Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb's social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb's editors and one another. IMDb's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/imdb) and official Twitter account (https://twitter.com/imdb) have an audience of more than 10 million engaged fans. IMDb also maintains official accounts on Snapchat (https://www.snapchat.com/add/imdblive), Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/imdbofficial/), YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/imdb), and Tumblr (http://imdb.tumblr.com/).

Because IMDb's message boards continue to be utilized by a small but passionate community of IMDb users, we announced our decision to disable our message boards on February 3, 2017 but will leave them open for two additional weeks so that users will have ample time to archive any message board content they'd like to keep for personal use. During this two-week transition period, which concludes on February 19, 2017, IMDb message board users can exchange contact information with any other board users they would like to remain in communication with (since once we shut down the IMDb message boards, users will no longer be able to send personal messages to one another). We regret any disappointment or frustration IMDb message board users may experience as a result of this decision.

IMDb is passionately committed to providing innovative ways for our hundreds of millions of users to engage and communicate with one another. We will continue to enhance our current offerings and launch new features in 2017 and beyond that will help our customers communicate and express themselves in meaningful ways while leveraging emerging technologies and opportunities.
