Hard pick, I love lots of directors. But if I had to chose the five I like the most, these may be the ones.

Pulp Fiction , The Hateful Eight , Inglourious Basterds , Django Unchained , Jackie Brown

Christopher Nolan

Billy Wilder

The Apartment , Double Indemity , Sunset Blvd. , Witness for the prosecution , Some like it Hot

Martin Scorsese

The Wolf of Wall Street , Goodfellas , Casino , Shutter Island , The Departed

Other honorable mentions I wanted to include in the list but didn't have room for:

Roman Polanski

Steven Spielberg

Robert Zemeckis

David Fincher

Alejandro G. Inarritu

The Coen brothers

J.J Abrams

Ridley Scott

Stanley Kubrick

James Cameron

Akira Kurosawa

Ingmar Bergman

Guy Ritchie

Fritz Lang

Frank Darabont

David Lean

Orson Welles

Sergio Leone

Denis Villeneuve

Hmm, I am sorry, this honorable mention list may be getting out of hand, but there are so many great filmmakers out there, both dead and alive, and I feel it's hard to do them justice with a list of just five people. Truth be told, I don't necessarily like the people on my list more than the ones mentioned above.

Clint eastwood.

Gran Torino
Unforgiven
Pale rider
Letters from iwo jima

Martin Scorsese

1.)Age of Innocence, The (1993), 2.)Taxi Driver (1976) ,3.)New York, New York (1977), 4.)Goodfellas (1990), 5.)Casino (1995)

So thrilled to see New York New York on this list.

I can't meet the five/five criteria. Sorry. I'm going with three/three, though.
  • The Coen Brothers
O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona, The Hudsucker Proxy
  • Alfred Hitchock
Dial "M" For Murder, Rope, North by Northwest
  • Robert Zemeckis
Cast Away, What Lies Beneath, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Honorable mention: M. Night Shyamalan. I believe he's only directed three films in any truly wide release, two of which I've seen, and loved: The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. I wouldn't be surprised if Signs is equally as good, either. I also feel compelled to mention Bryan Singer, as I thought he did a great job with both The Usual Suspects and X-Men.
Nice to see some love for The Hudsucker Proxy and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
