David Cronenberg's career is pretty easily divided between his early B movie inspired, horror fascination (Shivers, The Fly, etc) and his present interest in the cold and clinical marriage of sex and violence (Crash, Map to the Stars). Videodrome is my favorite feature of his, but it happens to tow the line, more of his transitional period. Still, I definitely feel like I'm in the minority in enjoying his latest turn.

His early career is easily the most interesting in conceptual themes. The Brood, Videodrome and The Fly specially.

He then jumped from the body bizarre into more subtle psychological works. Spider - as an example - Is a natural evolution of a man who, as an artist, is himself growing older and wiser.

Early. I have a huge soft spot for movies like Rabid and Shivers.
