SpelingError's Top 100 Favorite Short Films

How many odd additions are there?

Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 2: Time

Thriller

The Finishing Line (1977)

Rejected (2000)

Unedited Footage of a Bear

The Crimson Permanent Assurance

Let the night air cool you off
I've seen 52/100. Great list, a lot of my favorites are on here. Not seen Wavelength. I have seen Mirror of Holland, I remember it having a cool concept, with the shots in the water reflections and the camera upside down and all of that, but still ended up feeling like a chore to get through for me. Maybe a rewatch is due. I've seen Meshes several times, desperately trying to like it, I've also seen a couple other Deren shorts that similarly left me cold. That said, there is at least ten films on this list that I'd go the full
on.

Was any Susan Pitt on this list? Rewatched The Doctors (think that's what it was called) last night, and that deserves a mention
I've seen The Asparagus and Joy Street, both of which I liked a good bit but they weren't in contention for this list. I haven't seen The Doctors yet.

Also, here's a list of recommendations I got throughout sharing this (both on here and a couple Discord servers) which I plan on getting through in the coming weeks. If you recommended something which isn't listed, it means I've already seen it.

Feeling from Mountain and Water
The Stolen Heart
Dojoji Temple
Atman
The Demon
Restaurant of Many Orders
Kick-Heart
On Your Mark
FK's A Country Doctor

The Finishing Line
Drippy Donald Duck
Kigeki

The Finishing Line is the one I hinted is similar to Apaches. It was banned for many years, because despite being an educational film, it severely disturbed way too many people.

#2
Mirror of Holland (1950, Bert Haanstra)

Just saw this. Good stuff.

Just saw this. Good stuff.
I'm a huge fan of reflection photography and this short film puts just about everything I've ever seen - films and photography - to shame. My first time watching it, I felt I had just seen the pinnacle of how great a shot of its ilk can be.

I forgot Double King!

Check it out if you haven't seen it. It's a wild ride.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
I'm repeating myself but this is a valuable thread.

@SpelingError, you should follow this up with TOP 100 full-length films if you haven't already.

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

Thanks!

I might assemble a top 100 full-length list someday. I do have a top 50 on Letterboxd and IMDb right now, so I'd have to expand that.

I've seen 'em all, friend. The other 50 must be more obscure than that.

To be fair, short films get less exposure on curated lists than feature length films do, so I'd wager the average top 100 short film list will be more obscure than the average top 100 feature length film list. Though yeah, your top 100 is probably far more obscure.

Just a joke. Any top 100 is good. Just make it personal.
I might do that once work/job applications quit consuming a decent chunk of my free time.

Yeah, I'll show myself out.
