You seen Tom Hardy's Wuthering Heights? His character is quite an outsider and much like Snape in personality, particularly after Cathy dies.

I know Heathcliff is meant to be an outsider but he's a different type of outcast, much closer to Sirius than Snape who is supposed to be a nerd now grown up.

Also, on a more superficial level, Hardy is too sexy for Snape. No way he'd be believable as the reject Snape was.

No, but I've read it enough time (and I've seen Andrea Arnold's film for what it's worth). I stand by what I said and I'll stick with Tom Hiddleston as Snape in about 20 years.

Rhett Butler: Henry Cavill. He can play both snarky and do an impeccable American accent, as shown in The Man from Uncle.

Jonathan Pryce is a very odd character to find an alternative for. I saw Tom Baker a while ago describe him as a "volcanic" performer, which you wouldn't automatically think from some of his film work, but perhaps that is also what allows him to be so good at being the opposite on screen; the nervousness and restlessness. It's not an easy one at all. Ben Whishaw's a bit too contained really.
