Over the years there have been tons and tons of horror movies. Good ones, the bad ones, and the terrible ones. There are certain horror films that hold spots in your mind over the ages. you know? The series that never seem to end. I often think of Child's Play, Scream, The Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Texas chainsaw Massacre, and halloween. Those seem to be the classics.

Now, it seems that Hollywood these days is hooked on remakes of old movies.

Rob Zombie, after his music carreer, has become a very succesful movie director and chose to remake one of the most famous movies of all time. HALLOWEEN. Well, was it any better than the original. Let's find out...
**********************************
IDEA BEHIND THE FILM...
The idea here was great. Take one of the most popular and terrifying movies of all time and modernize it. also, in the process clean it up and go into some background on the killer. A great idea and with Mr. Zombie's talent and creepiness... it just is so right.

FUN FACT: Did you know that Rob Zombie designed the set for the old kids show: PeeWee's Playhouse? No wonder it looks so weird.

THE ACTING...
Unlike the original Halloween this movie has great acting and great actors. If they cry it looks real. If they are in pain you flinch. Everything flows so smoothly and gives it a really creepy feeling. However, there is one thing that annoys me beyond belief. Rob Zombie constantly reuses actors! For example in House of 1000 Corpses, and The Devil's Rejects there is the really hot girl that luers the people over. You know? Spalding daughter. Well, she is reused in this movie. She plays Michael Myers mom. Let me run through some key figures in the movie.

Michael Myers: A deranged killer "Who's understanding of life and death and right and wrong is extremly rudementary." He is deranged as a child.

Dr. Samuel Loomis: Michaels personal shrink. He spends 7 years trying to help Michael then another 8 trying to lock Michael up for good.

Lori: Michaels baby sister whom he comes back for after his great escape.

Michaels Mom: A stripper who barely gets by and whose new husband constantly torments. she tries to hold her family together but for how long?

Michaels Step-Father: A man who constantly torments Michael and eventually causes Michaels mentel deterioration.

THE STORYLINE (may contain spoilers.)...
The storyline is great and fairly similar to the old film. Michael Myers, a young boy, is constantly picked on by kids at school, his older sister, and his stepfather. eventually he snaps and kills his older sister, her boyfriend, and his stepfather. He is sent to a mental health facility where he is councled by Sam Loomis. his mom visits once a week.
Eventually Michael stops communicating and shuts out the world and lives behind paper masks he makes. Then he kills the nurse. That is when his mother has had enough and takes her own life, leaving a baby unattended which is adopted but never told the truth.
15 years later Sam gives up on Michael and leaves. Then Myers escapes back to his old comunity where he dawns his famous mask and knife. He then hunts down his baby sister who is now 16, and kills anyone in his path.
Finally Loomis shoots Myers who somehow comes back to life and grabs his sister. At the end she shoots Michael in the head.

Very good plot... also, it is great gow they went into detail about how Michael became the way he did.

SPECIAL EFFECTS...
the special effects are great to say the least. There are plenty of kills and you can always see what is happening. The blood, guts, fire, and other things look real. They even keep some of the original kills, such as Michael dressed as a ghost killing the girls boyfirend, this really authenticates the movie and simply makes it look a little better.

BLOOD AND GORE...
sometimes horror films don't have enought blood and gore and sometimes there is way too much. but this film really does a nice job of evening it out. there is realistic amounts of blood coming from necks and scratches and stab wounds. There is never an excessive amount. just the right amount. That really adds to the quality of the movie.

FINAL THOUGHTS AND FINAL RATING...
For any fan of the old Halloween movies wether it is halloween, Haloween 2, or even Halloween H2O this is a must see for you. You will enjoy he background of Myers and you'll love to see the revamped special effects.

The only part where this loses points is for the fact that Zombie reuses actors again! also, he sure makes it look like Michael is gone for good. Especially necause she shoots him in the face and his head pretty much explodes all over her. so how to the other movies tie in???

FINAL SCORE: (SCALE 1 TO 10. 1 BEING AWFUL AND 10 BEING PERFECT.) 9/10
