They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but
now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.

The Cure - "Disintegration"
Bloc Party - "Silent Alarm"
Lenny Kravitz - "Greatest Hits" (for "Always On the Run")
James Brown - "The 50th Anniversary Collection"

I am having a nervous breakdance
Bettye LaVette - "I've Got My Own Hell to Raise"

Listened to the first couple of songs in the store and was swept away by her voice. Listening to it now. We'll see how the rest is...

In the store I was surprised to find a new album with Big Star(!). Turns out Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow from The Posies (and other bands) is playing and singing on the album and have also been very involved in the songwriting. I listened to it a bit and it sounds a whole lot better than the disappointing new album by The Posies.

I got for good luck my black tooth.
Last week for my birthday I got:

XO - Elliott Smith
The Best Of - Sam Cooke
The Best Of - Ritchie Havens
Best...1 - The Smiths
A Tribute to Woody Guthrie - Various Artists

That one sounds interesting. Who's on it? Is it any good?

I got for good luck my black tooth.
It's very good. Respectful but often fun and heartfelt renewals of Guthrie's American classics. It includes: Jack Elliott, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton, Pete Seeger, Country Joe McDonald, Odetta, Joan Baez, Ritchie Havens ETC... If you like folk, I can't imagine why you wouldn't like this quite a bit.

Anyway: Debut - Bjork

I got for good luck my black tooth.
Christmas Presents:
The first two are my two top contenders for album of the year.

Illinois - Sufjan Stevens
Plans - Death Cab for Cutie
Amelie Soundtrack
Live at Stubb's - Matisyahu
The Tain - The Decemberists
Let it Die - Feist

Whoops, old news but I missed this the first time around (is Henry even still around?), so belatedly: yeah, I'm not a big fan of Cave, but in general I like the Birthday Party better than the Bad Seeds (with the exception of a couple songs, such as Deanna or Hard-on for Love). Hee Haw grew on me a whole lot in the last couple of months, it's by far my favorite Cave album.

In recent news I picked this double cd up for my dad's Christmas present:

for myself I bought:

I'm not old, you're just 12.
Pink Floyd - The Wall. yes, I am just getting that now. lol. One of my friends listens to it everytime we take a car ride, so I became addicted to the damned thing.
