Yes, it's a word play joke, it has nothing to do with nothing, see I just did it again.

The People's Republic of Clogher
So Touch of Evil made the top 20? It made my #3.

You can keep your Citizen Kanes's and your Magnificant Ambersons's, Touch Of Evil is Big Orson's masterpiece.

I mean .... come on!

Touch of Evil was a tad disappointing. I liked it but it is my least favourite of the five Welles films i've seen so far. I really should rewatch it though as i said in my write up for it i was having trouble concentrating during the first half so it could've been my fault.

Woah. Way off on Streetcar, i thought it'd be top 10. I had it at #13. My short writeups for both of them.

Touch of Evil (1958) -
-

Good film, it is my least favourite out of the five Welles films i've seen so far. That surprised me i thought there was a good chance of this challenging Citizen Kane for my favourite since it really looked my type of film. The main thing was that i was really bored during the first half, i'm not sure why exactly i just found myself not following it properly because i was struggling to say interested. Thankfully it really picked up during the second half and overall i'd say i enjoyed it, loved the ending. Welles was the highlight for me, he played the slimy, scumbag police captain perfectly.
A Streetcar Named Desire - 8/10

Liked this alot. I remember someone saying Brando here was the finest male performance they have seen, not quite sure if i agree with that but i did think he was fantastic and it is now my favourite performance of his, pretty surprising that he was the only one not to win an Oscar as i thought he was the best then again i haven't seen The African Queen/ Vivien Leigh was also very good, i loved her nervous, nutty character, she was certainly pretty over the top but i felt it fit her relationship with Stanley and Mitch in particular and the story. I also really liked the script. I'm aware it is based on a play so it did come across a bit stagey and unrealistic which is sometimes a problem for me but i loved it here. Some random lines of no importance really cracked me up. "We'll wait til she's through soaking in the tub then i'll inquire if she is acquainted with the Napoleonic Code".

Anyway yeah great film, will be in consideration for my 50's list.

Touch of Evil is awesome! Although i have to say that the extraordinary camerawork distracted me a bit from the storyline. Looking very much forward to the next viewing. I had this movie at #14.

Touch Of Evil was my #22, Streetcar my #3. Both are anchored by those larger than life performances and an excellent atmospheric setting. Streetcar has that script that just makes it one of the all time greats. The writing couldn't be better. I added it to my top ten after seeing it just a couple months ago. It might not stick forever but I wouldn't be upset if it did. Bound to be a favorite forever. So damn good.

I forgot to say that I also had Tokyo Story in the middle of my list somewhere. Touch of Evil was around the same area, too. Both of them are examples of master filmmakers on top form.

Didn't have A Streetcar Named Desire on my list, but I watched it recently and thought it was very good, didn't love it though.

I only liked A Streetcar Named Desire, so I watched it again thinking I should love it. Same result and I'm not sure why since it has amazing qualities.

Touch of Evil fended off some tough competition to claim my last spot.
