Interjection:
The original post example is incorrect.
The answer would not be Star Wars (1977), it would be The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
There was no "weird green frog" telling anybody anything in Star Wars, and the "kid" didn't even know who his "dad" was until the end of Empire Strikes Back. And the prospect of the kid killing his dad wasn't an issue in the first movie as the two had no direct interaction and the "dad" had been lost in space in the climactic battle scene of that movie.
