Donald Trump for President?

How'd you get out so fast, nostro? Trump?
The batmobile, he swung by and picked me up in the batmobile, now we're back at Trump Tower

Yeah, nobody said this. It's a straw man. And even if it wasn't, we're talking about a counterfactual where he drops out much earlier, which means the race unfolds differently (especially after New Hampshire).

It's obvious that Trump won in large part because the field was highly fractured. No one candidate is responsible for this collective problem, but any candidate who stayed in despite an especially weak chance of winning, and who directly damaged the candidates most likely to, is disproportionately to blame.
I haven't been able to get here for two weeks. I kept getting "internal server error. I gave up a while back. tried it now as a lark and was amazed I got through.

Kasich was hanging on because he thought he had a chance at a brokered convention. Would him dropping out early made a difference when he was always doing poorly? The real problem was once it got down to Cruz being the alternative to Trump, it was a mistake to think that would mean if Kasich dropped out most of his supporters would gravitate to Cruz. Cruz, unlike Rubio, was a bad consensus candidate. Rubio's problem was he wasn't as smart a campaigner as Cruz. Cruz's problem was being smart will only get you so far.

The polls are now showing a close race between Trump and Hillary. And it might be close come November. But you look at it from state-to-state, I don't see how he can pull it off. He seems to be having a hard time finding someone to be his VP. I'm going to look now at the MOVIE QUESTIONS to see if I can answer one and hope I don't get locked out.

And Obama was...Golfing!
1. It's one of the dumbest criticisms of his presidency or of any presidency. I'd prefer a president take vacation when they need it, and have the admin stand in for a bit rather than a stressed president. And if anything happens the president needs to take personal involvement in it's not as if there's not ridiculously simple ways for them to take action while away from the white house.
2. It's not even a good criticism, because he's taken dramatically fewer "vacation days" than Bush (and most of the other recent presidents).

Again, don't care that he took fewer vacation days, that doesn't make him a better or worse president. It was a dumb cheap shot when Moore did it too. But not only do I hate stupid criticisms, I really hate stupid double standard criticisms.

I think how much a president vacations is a fair criticism, as is a senator missing votes. Besides it's Very expensive

Charles Murray on why disliking Hillary isn't a valid explanation for supporting Trump:

The False Priests are the columnists, media pundits, public intellectuals, and politicians who have presented themselves as principled conservatives or libertarians but now have announced they will vote for a man who, by multiple measures, represents the opposite of the beliefs they have been espousing throughout their careers. We’ve already heard you say “Hillary is even worse.” Tell us, please, without using the words “Hillary Clinton” even once, your assessment of Donald Trump, using as a template your published or broadcast positions about right policy and requisite character for a president of the United States. Put yourself on the record: Are you voting for a man whom your principles require you to despise, or have you modified your principles? In what ways were you wrong before? We require explanation beyond “Hillary is even worse.”
Murray is talking about public figures of one stripe or another, but the same goes for his supporters: tell me what your principles are, and let's see if they actually align with your preferred candidate. And if they don't, if you're not willing to pretend it's okay to slander and demean political opponents and journalists, or to lie repeatedly about war, or to fund the same people you claim have destroyed our country...then explain why you're suddenly willing to compromise those principles by supporting someone who does.

I'm not from the US, but it's amazing the footage I see where I live. It's like a circus to run for the President. I'm not sure if it's been like that for many years? Though, it's a sad reflection for one the most democratic society in the world.

Well, it's better than China, Russia and most of the eastern block. Brazil and most of South America and most of Africa. Too many to name Omnizoa.

Democratic is not a term I would use to describe the US or even it's election process.

I'm not from the USA, so I'm not too familiar with the process with elections. The coverage where I live with rallies and such, everything comes down to Trump. I don't know if Trump will be good President? I doubt many followers of Trump would know. Time will tell if he beats Clinton in the election.

Only one of [the bankruptcies] happened after 2008. The first came in 1991, the next in 1992, the third in 2004, and the fourth in 2009. And how is it a defense to say he would have been a fool not to file after he screwed them up? The foolish thing was getting into that position in the first place.

And yes, lenders do price for it: and you know how they priced Trump after a couple of these? As a huge risk. They charged him very high interest rates, and on one occasion he had to show them proof that he was curtailing his lavish lifestyle.
Follow-up on this. Not only are three of his bankruptcies not explained by the downturn in question (or anything other than his career-long habit of over-promising and under-delivering), but his casinos failed terribly even when the economy was fine and his competitors were doing brisk business:

So even if you buy the idea that being a good businessperson makes you qualified to be President (in which case, you must love Mitt Romney too, right?), where exactly is the evidence that Trump is one? In addition to the bankruptcies mentioned above, and the abysmal performance of his casino, you can add the fact that he started a mortgage company (and loudly insisted it was a great time to start one) almost immediately before the housing crash.

Anyone in business will fail sometimes. That's not the issue. But if you fail the same way over and over, in largely self-inflicted ways, and only get out of it by having a huge inheritance to cushion your fall (and bankruptcy to leave others to bail things out), then that's on you, and you don't get to pretend you're a financial maverick because of it.

More of the same:

This kind of salesmanship is sleazy but pretty harmless when you're hucking steaks or rebranding bottled water, but it's another thing entirely when you're making serious policy promises and people are actually believing them.

I think his exaggerations (and that's the nice word, because often they're just straight-up falsehoods) are almost completely reflexive at this point. He's selling steaks? BEST STEAKS IN THE WORLD. Accusations of fascism? I AM THE LEAST FASCIST PERSON EVER. Went to a good school? I GRADUATED TOP OF MY CLASS.
