Mel Gibson is one of the greatest actors of his generation.
Of course, he should work again.
He's currently directing a war movie starring Vince Vaughn and Andrew Garfield called Hacksaw Ridge. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hate to tell people there are far worse people then Mel Gibson working in hollywood. His biggest problem is well he talks too much and has anger issues. Seems mostly alchohol related as well. Arnald is still beloved and is even more a Disgusting Pig.
I have a friend with very different political opinions of my own who once said that he "hated it when people had to go away for saying the wrong thing."
