Movie about a man visiting old flames?

I saw this movie years ago, it was maybe a 90's movie. It opens with a woman driving in her convertible with a really long white scarf flying in the wind. I believe she was dumping the main character, or maybe he was talking about her, or it may have been just music when showin her. at the end of the opening credits her scarf gets stuck in the back tires and she dies. the main guy is at her funeral, or talking about going, with his friends and discussing mistakes he made and so he revisits his old flames in order to figure out what went wrong so he can finally find true love.
