Re: Vote on the next countdown (Oct. 2023)

Anyway I guess we need to decide what the options should be, and once I feel comfortable we've got some kinda consensus there I can post the poll, presumably this week.

If there's no consensus I'm...

I can appreciate a few people might have misunderstood the voting, but I have to imagine that's rare. It also doesn't necessarily skew voting very much, since they're still picking their favorite....

Re: May The Fourth Be With You!

The Yoda is pretty cool! The forehead makes me think of him less like a muppet and more like a dinosaur.

This is a good thing, to be clear.

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball - 2024 Season

The solution is to realize that almost all "slumps" and "hot streaks" are illusions. ;) Not even worth benching or starting people for, nevermind dropping or picking up or what have you.

Interestingly, I've always thought the opposite. The logic being that, for most/many addicts, the whole problem is stopping once they've started. So overeating is trickier because you have to eat,...

I think he swiped that from Mark Twain! "Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I ought to know, I've done it a thousand times."

Never smoked, no issues with alcohol. Closest thing...

Re: Old School Chat Rooms

Oh yeah, I 'member. I was on AOL in the early days. And Compuserve before and after. Compuserve was closer to the Internet as we think of it today. AOL was more like the Apple ecosystem.

Re: ‘Ideal’ movie running time is 92 minutes, poll claims

I take this to be an "all else being equal" kind of thing. Nobody thinks The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King should be 92 minutes.

A whole, whole lot of movies are clearly longer than...

Re: MoFo Fantasy Baseball - 2024 Season

I have Cruz in my other league, and yeah, oof. But it sounds worse than it is. Just means four runs. Four runs x three outs x nine innings = 108.

Wes Anderson short film/ad: MONTBLANC

Fun. I expect we'll see more quasi-ad efforts like this in the future.

Note: Anderson stars in this one, too.

Or, alternatively, they do but media incentive structures and ethically questionable headline writers construct the...

I predict this will be weird and uneven, but have, like, two or three surreal and hilarious sequences that I remember far longer than the rest of the film.
