Re: 2014 Movie Tournament

Some Bergman love:

Donnie Darko vs. Wild Strawberries
The Departed vs. Cries and Whispers

First one was close, second was not.

The MoFo Top 100 of the 1970s: Countdown

Re: The MoFo Top 100 of the 1970s: Countdown

I had some strange premonition that Jaws would win, but happily it seems I was mistaken. Still, two absolutely amazing films to end the countdown. The '70s really were one hell of a decade.

I...

Re: Better Actor or Director: John Cassavetes

Cassavetes is an excellent actor, but as a director he's in a class by himself. (I'm not biased of course; he only happens to be one of my two or three favorite filmmakers ;))

Not really too surprised about the top ten, other than how well Alien did. With Taxi Driver out of the running for #1, I'm rooting for The Godfather, but Jaws is fantastic too.

Well, you know I love that last set. ;) Fanny and Alexander and Taxi Driver - it really doesn't get much better than that.

If Eraserhead was your first and you're still eager for more, then you can't really go wrong. But I'll say Blue Velvet. Or just watch them all in order.

Close Encounters is great, I think it made my list. My second favorite Spielberg, behind the obligatory Jaws :p Monty Python and the Holy Grail is awesome too, but I like Meaning of Life better.

NETWORK!! My #2. Glad to see it do so well. Such a fantastic film - funny, sad, and eerily prophetic. We have not listened to the lessons it has tried to teach.
