Quigley Down Under was my #4. I watched it for Alan Rickman and because I was interested in non-US westerns. Rickman is a brilliant villain, as always, but it was also a really enjoyable movie in a...

Seen 41% of the list, which surprised me, didn't think it would be nearly so high!

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

Not a huge fan of either of the top 2,, but not really surprised they topped the list.

Here was my list:

1. High Noon (1952)
2. Dead Man (1995)
3. Hud (1963)
4. Quigley Down Under (1990)...

25, surely, if it was honeykid's #2?

Bad Girls was legitimately my sixth favourite movie for a while when I was 12. I'm not sure I can remember what the top 5 were at the time. Probably Jurassic...

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

Every time I see people talk about The Searchers it sounds good, but I didn't like it when I saw it. Maybe I should give it another shot someday.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was the only...

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was my #17. It's a well made film with a well told story, although all of the actors are too old.

High Noon was my #1. Tense and compelling throughout. Excellent...

2. Unforgiven
3. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
4. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
5. High Noon
6. The Wild Bunch
7. Dances With Wolves

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

I've only seen Django Unchained but didn't really consider it for my list. I should probably get round to watching Hateful 8 at some point.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is a film I admire more than I actually enjoy it. Could probably do with a rewatch.

For A Few Dollars More was on my list at one stage, but got chopped in a late...

True Grit was my #12. I had both versions, this one a little higher up because I enjoyed it more. Would I have felt the same had I seen them the other way around? I don't know.

My list so far and...

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

The Revenant was my #13. The bleak landscape was very well realised and it was well-acted. I really feel like I should see it again, actually, but from one watch I thought it was very good.

Dead...

True Grit was my #19. I watched the remake first, but I thought both were solid films. I imagine the remake will show up higher up on here.

I haven't seen The Great Silence but it looks good.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

The Proposition has a whole bunch of actors I like, but it didn't quite work for me. It's relentlessly violent and unpleasant - more than one person walked out of the cinema when I saw it (not me)....

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

Red River made my list at #18. There was a lot to like about this film - just the logistics of shooting the cattle drive must have been something, and the acting is great. I'm not a John Wane fan but...

Slow West is the first movie from the countdown I have seen, and it was on my list at #14. There are a few clunks to the story but it's well shot and well acted and I liked it.

Re: The MoFo Top 100 Westerns: Countdown

I didn't think Brokeback Mountain was eligible, despite the cowboy hats, or I'd definitely have voted for it (and not at #25). Never mind.
