Favorite Comedian Gone Dramatic
What is the best dramatic performance you've seen of a comedian? Mine is Jim Carrey in Man on the Moon and Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting and Jack Black did a decent job in Bernie!

For a couple of oldies, I like:
Shelley Berman in The Best Man (1964) Don Rickles in Casino (1995) And Robin Williams was good in One Hour Photo (2002) |

He went from pure comedic roles, carrying the occasional seriousness and emotion, like Big, The Money Pit, The 'burbs, Dragnet, Turner And Hooch, A League Of Their Own... to full on dramatic roles in Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan, Bridge Of Spies etc. He still carries that comedic timing though, which I think marks him as one of the best actors of the past 40+ years. |
Sam Kinison. Back to School.

Robin Williams is a good example, especially in "Good Will Hunting" where his humanity cannot be denied.

Jim Carrey should have received an Oscar nomination for The Truman Show and Will Farrell impressed in Stranger than Fiction and Everything Must Go.

I love Jack Black but he did have the great Shirley MacLaine to play the monster he was up against.
Great pairing there, in Bernie. |
Re: Favorite Comedian Gone Dramatic
Have you seen Being There? Peter Sellers did a wonderful performance, but ruined it by showing outtakes during credits. Breaking the magic!
