Mads Mikkelsen
Any other fans here? I did a search but nothing showed up.
What I've seen him in Hannibal. Not a fan of reboots of movies to tv but thought I would give this a go just to see the pilot. Immediately hooked. I never thought I would say that anyone could follow Hopkins as Lecter. Mads blew me away, which then sent me on a Madly Movie Binge. Watched Casino Royale eventhough I went cold on the Bond franchise some time ago Pusher 1 and 2 (such a likable thug, and he is on record as saying he played the guy he was 20 years ago. Very rough and tumble knockabout guy) After the Wedding (loved it. Might have cried a wee bit, nay a lot! Bawled like a little bitch) Flame and Citron (one of my favourites. think I also cried, but war dramas tend to make me a bit emotional) Coco and Igor (2 ghastly people but he did such a great job) Valhalla rising (how many actors can steal every scene without saying a word) Clash of the Titans (pretty crappy but fun film. He and Ashraf Barhom were excellent) A Royal Affair (my eldest bro also has a crush on Mads and as a doctor himself, recommended this to me because it's based on a real doctor) The Hunt (gut wrenching film, and well deserved Palme d'Or for best actor) Charlike Countryman (got bagged a lot because people seem to hate Shia La B - I cant spell his name. But I really enjoyed this and thought the three leads had great chemistry) The Salvation (loved it) Michael Kolhaas (didnt like it but he was enough to keep me engaged. Still, boring movie IMO) Dr Strange (the experience I want from every movie I see - all round thorough entertainment) Was such a superfan of Hannibal one of the producers sent me a gift set which iincludes a personally autographed photo of Lecter in his peacock suit. Have it framed and hanging on my wall. Normally I'm not into merchandise but I was so chuffed. He even spelt my name right. |

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
I think he's the best actor of his generation at the moment. And boy oh boy he sure turned me on to danish film makers and actors. Also made me want to read non fiction about denmark during the second world war.

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
Mads pulling out a bottle of vodka in the middle of a Rogue One interview is everything.

I must get The Hunt as I've been wanting to see that for a while. After Casino Royale, Flame and Citron was the first thing I saw him in and that was very interesting. I haven't seen all of Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky but thought it was excellent, especially Anna Mouglalis. I've seen bits and pieces of Hannibal and Mikkelsen's is certainly an individual take on the character – I like his allusion to Satan, which works particularly for the idea of Lecter 'tempting' Will Graham. One film you might be interested in seeing is The Door – he's dubbed in German, which is a pity, but it's still worth a look. |
Re: Mads Mikkelsen
Brace yourself for The Hunt. Amazing film but goes to show what community witch hunts can do. Left me in quite a bad way. His portrayal is so good, and the little girl is amazing.
Yeah I have the Door on my list. Not a fan of dubbed movies, though. His Lecter knocked my socks off. I remember one scene where Will walked into his office and Mads gently and quickly touched a scalpel he was using as a pencil sharpener. The subtlety was frightening. Then his delivery of his one liners had me on the floor. Still laughing my butt off at 'you can slice the ginger'. |

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
He was great in Adam's Apples and The Door.

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
Oh man, it gets truly frightening when he unveils lucifer, but the bastard keeps tricking you into falling back under his spell. Not the sort of show you can watch in bits and pieces, though. The shifting dynamics were amazing. Do you remember which episodes you watched? I started when it first aired then would rewatch every night until the next episode. I was utterly chronic with that show. I wake up really early (like 4am) and would often watch again then. So many layers to that show, and just so much going on. I felt as if i had really fallen into Bryan Fuller's demented but delicious mind. Even started cooking things like brains with saffron or turmeric to see if i could make them look like scrambled eggs because according to comments from cast and crew, human bits were in every one of hannibal's meals. That show made me quite insane. I also went vegetarian for a while LOL.

MM, I've got Adam's Apples on the list as well. If he's in it, I'll watch it. I'll even watch Rogue One for him and Riz Ahmed after I swore blinnd after Abrams effort I would never touch the franchise again. Not sure about Men and chicken. I've heard it's pretty bizarre.

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
I have Men and Chicken, but for some reason I keep putting it off. I've heard great things in general about Rogue One, so I'll be getting to that soon. Would be interesting to see how he does in it.

I thought MovieGal had made a return when I saw this thread

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
Is she the other Mads' superfan someone told me about yesterday? Bring her back. We can have a scrag fight over the Madly Mads.

He's damn good. I love Pusher II, and a lot of that is because of him. He was great in Adam's Apples too. He played such a punching bag, I felt sorry for him.
I'm really glad he's catching on. |
Re: Mads Mikkelsen
Hannibal is such an amazing series. Mads was great in it.

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
I was talking to one of the producers of Hannibal. She said when Mads did the crucifixion scene - you know the one in the spa - he felt very unwell after. Very physical actor. The guy is just an animal (that's a compliment coming from me). So damn talented, but so down to earth.

I really need to watch The Hunt. I've heard way too many good things. Hannibal as well, but I want to watch the other two movies in the series other than Silence of the Lambs before I tackle that.

Re: Mads Mikkelsen
The Hunt - must see. I put my brothers onto that and we all just did the OMG how can that stuff happen. Really powerful movie.
Bryan Fullers' Hannibal I would recommend seeing while leaving the movies/books behind you. Not as in viewing but as for viewer mindset. Fuller's Hannibal is not a reboot. It's a reimagining of certain characters. It's fantastical, nightmarish, funny as hell if you like dark humour, but nothing like the movies. It's totally focussed on this character dynamic and it's other worldly. I can't think of any other way to describe it. Not fantasy like Game of Thrones, but you get totally sucked into to the nightmare realm of a charismatic and that, to me, was terrifying. cinematography is stunning. Disclaimer - I'm just a fan, not paid as a shill to post passionately about that show. I just loved it so much. |
